This would be a good book to read when introducing specific examples that children can be good citizens. TO READ: During First Grade or Second Grade school visit.
Ann Green –
Great story with wonderful bright, cheerful and diverse drawings! A great introduction to being a good citizen for little ears.
Ellon –
A simple and straightforward book about citizenship (exactly what it says it is). I particularly liked the page where the child is depicted as being a good citizen by waking up his parents to vote!

I read this as an eBook on Capstone. "Being a Good Citizen: A Book about Citizenship" is a picture book with no known awards and is appropriate for ages 3-8. This eBook explains to children many ways to be a good citizen for their country by doing things like studying history, waking up their parents to vote and shoveling snow. I gave this eBook 4-stars because it doesn't have a proper conclusion, as the book just ends with another way to be a good citizen. I feel it should have ended with a summary and a reminder of why all of these things are good to do. The plot includes many great ways to be a good citizen and there are many diverse characters. The theme of the story teaches children great morals to follow. The language is easy to understand, and the sentences are short and repetitive. The illustrations are bright and look as if they were colored with crayons or colored pencils, which is appropriate for the age level. I believe that this eBook will be appealing to young readers because many children like doing good deeds. This eBook also has an audiobook option, which some children may prefer. I would use this eBook in the classroom for a lesson about the country or for a lesson about being a good person.

I read this book a 2nd grade class and they seemed to enjoy and understand it. It gives children a good idea of what citizenship is and what it means to be a good citizen.

Not all inclusive but a good basic overview for children to learn about citizenship. Brightly illustrated...aimed at preschool. Not read aloud-type of book but good for discussion.
