I've been reading about Ayurveda and healthy eating for a while, so it was a lot that I had already learned. However, it's a really good overview of the basics of healthy eating viewed through an Ayruvedic medicine lens. It also has tons of examples of how to easily apply Ayruvedic principlesyo everyday life. I did learn some interesting information about intermittent fasting and detoxing your body. Cuatro estrellas! REally enjoyed this. dr palanisamy finds an interesting compromise between these 2 divergent lifestyles and eating philosophies. He definitely leans more Ayurvedic but explains that our ancestors DID NOT LIVE OFF HUNTED MEAT AND GATHERED SEEDS ALONE!!!!! Very common sense approach to eliminating processed foods (yes, that includes foods made with flour) from your diet. I felt the chapter on the use of certain beneficial spices was worth the whole cost of the book. This book also helped me to blend an Ayurvedic approach to my Paleo, which was just what I was looking to do on my own. Before reading this, I was having a hard time meshing the two together. I also liked that the author stresses that Paleo is not one size fits all. It needs to be customized for each person and their food tolerances and needs. I find that I do better with higher healthy fats while other people may need more protein or starchy vegetables in their diet to keep them satiated and happy. I have not tried the recipes, but they look pretty easy to implement and do include the use of the spices he recommends. The plan could do with more recipes as it only provides two weeks worth of food for the detox plan (to test for food sensitivities so you can learn what foods you can not tolerate). The book would benefit from recipes for maintenance foods after the detox plan.

I am unsure of how to rate this book. I was reading it because I know someone who is having problems that conventional medicine seems unable to diagnose and cure. I can see how this diet and program could appeal to people who have intestinal or autoimmune disorders that haven't responded to conventional treatments. However, I find the references and ideas to be less than convincing, and to be a mixture of science and traditional practices with no real reason for why some ideas are included and others are not. While many of the references are supported by peer-reviewed studies, others are merely anecdotal or based upon unsupported beliefs and practices -- some of which may be less than effective. Overall, this might be worthwhile for those who can't find help any other way, but for those who are just looking for a way to healthier living, I would pass on its many ideas and prescriptions.

Achieve optimal health I would recommend this book to anyone with less than optimal health. I picked up this book because I’m turning 30 this year and I feel like my body needed a “tune-up.” The information in the book is not a repeat of other books I’ve read concerning the paleo, primal or Ayurvedic lifestyles. This is a whole new approach to eating “whole foods” backed up with scientific research and data. For those familiar with paleo, this will make sense. I wish it had more information on incorporating and I mean truly incorporating the Ayurvedic pieces of diet... more so than just eat rice if you need to. It is a good intro into a hybrid diet if you have some background. For me this book was great but left me a bunch of unanswered questions.

I was a little mislead by the title thinking this would be a book espousing a way to make the Paleo diet more specific to one's ayurvedic type. Instead it is a combination of some paleo principles with some ayurvedic ones. This is a great resource for people wanting to go deeper with explanations about how food and lifestyle affects metabolic syndrome and what can be done with food to reverse it. It is not for everyone, but for the right people, it may be everything.

I thought this book was a great read since it covered two areas I have been interested in: the Paleo diet and Aryuvedic medicine. A great combination of the two worlds with some great tips on how to eat for your body type.

My doctor casually recommended this book, as the author is one of her teachers in a functional medicine class she's taking, and we were talking about gut health. I'm not a diet person, and I'm certainly not giving up dairy, but I found as if it flipped a switch in me, reading about healthy eating, the benefits of fats and spices, and how you can prepare and eat certain foods for maximum benefit. As the title suggests, it incorporates paleo priniciples into the ancient Indian science of Ayurveda. There’s some great information on the medicinal properties of spices, guidance on customizing your diet to fit your Ayurvedic body type, as well as an easy-to-follow 21-day detox. Akil Palanisamy is a former vegetarian and his tone is consistently vegetarian-friendly. It’s a perfect book for introducing your vegetarian friends to paleo wisdom.

Interesting information. Not strict Paleo. Most Paleo books tend to focus on weight loss, but this one focuses more on overall health. It's not a one-size-fits-all. He recognizes that the same foods affect different people in different ways. That's where the Ayurveda philosophy meets the Paleo philosophy. Interesting information. Not strict Paleo.
