Wow, what a great book! First off, I really enjoyed the cover and since I loved Plain Protector, I knew I had to see what happened in Dr. Christina's story....i WAS NOT disappointed! This one is another COULD. NOT. PUT. DOWN books and I literally fought sleep to keep reading the next chapter, it had me that hooked. I suspected who the guilty person was early on, but nothing prepared me for the stunning conclusion and the mindset of this person at all. Truly great writing that will keep you turning pages in the quiet Amish town of Apple Creek. I didn't agree with Christina's tactics to pursue justice with the person who hurt her from her past, but I understood her reasons for doing so. I just knew things were not as they seemed from the start and I wondered how far the perpetrator would go in terrorizing her. Stone is brilliant in mixing Englischers with Amish characters and I truly enjoy how the different cultures are described with respect yet fully authentic. You really feel like you're THERE with Christina the whole time she's trying to figure out the right thing to do and protect her friends along the way. Dylan is a fabulous hero in this one as well. He's dealing with his own guilt and taking a sabbatical from the FBI yet he also struggles keeping his distance with Christina despite his feelings for her. I was horrified when he is injured in one scene, but he never lets up in protecting Christina despite how she refuses to get close to him once more. All in all, such a great book starting with a very interesting cover and considered a stand alone if you haven't read the rest of the series. Stone knows how to keep her readers hooked from the first page and I enjoyed it very much. *I want to thank the author for the review copy provided*

The first page is charged with expectancy. A flash of lightning, the rumble of thunder, a woman walking alone. Well, really, it's Christina storming her way into the mess while Dylan tries his hardest to keep up. This heroine has spunk and a past she wants to right. In fact she's confronted by it early on and whoosh....that realization took my breath away. I literally gasped when I read the end of chapter two. Out loud. On the bus with people watching! This one will keep you anxiously reading so you can see how it all plays out.

I always enjoy Allison's books. Her Amish stories always have a mystery to them. I like that. This book is well written, fast moving, and full of faith. I really enjoyed these characters. Dr. Christina Jennings grew up in a wealthy home but she and her brother left that life style to give back. Brokenhearted by the past she has returned to Applecreek and opened a small medical clinic. She walks over to the diner for a take out sandwich and ran into the man who had broken her heart many years ago. After some small talk she walks back to the clinic with her food. It has started to rain so she hurries. She is almost ran over by a car dumping off a body on her door step. If Dylan hadn't shoved her out of the way she would have been killed. Is this attack related to the horror she lived through years ago? FBI Agent Dylan Hunter is on leave from the agency after his partner's death. He is teaching in a small college in Applecreek. He manages to get Christina out of the path of the car bearing down on her but how can he convince her to trust him after he almost destroyed her? Who can be trying to kill her and how can he protect her from this mad man when she hates him? A journey of two brokenhearted people trying to trust each other after all the heart ache. A struggle to survive. God heals the brokenhearted, it's what He does. He has a plan for these two and it's much greater than they had ever envisioned. God has a plan for you too. a good plan for a hope and a future. Turn your life over to God and watch Him work in your life.

This read quite a bit like a Lifetime movie. Not that this is a bad thing, but that from the beginning it was pretty predictable. Christina runs a health clinic, and Dylan is back in Apple Creek on leave from the FBI. An Amish girl is drugged and left on Christina's doorstep, and a whole slew of things happen from there. The fact that the girl is Amish really has little bearing on the story itself. Instead the focus turns more to Christina's past and being attacked while she was in college. So many of the characters seemed to do and say exactly what they needed to move the story along, and not necessarily realistically. I mean, if I were to walk into a local school and accuse one of their coaches of something horrible, no way would they explain to me exactly what was going to be done to handle the situation just like that. There were be investigating, confidentiality, and so on. And if I thought someone was trying to kill me, obligation or not I would not be going into his home alone to check on his ailing wife. Especially if with one call I could have a sheriff deputy/brother there with me. Everything just worked out so neat and tidy with a bow. It was a quick, easy little read, but not without its flaws.

Thinking that the combo of FBI/ Amish/ doctors/ a mysterious killer sounded a little over the top, I bought this for my sister and hoped for the best. Thumbs up for the author taking on a theme of dealing with sexual assault without blaming victims. Otherwise...the "suspense" angle of this book was both implausible and thin on due process, while the "romance" angle was more a suggestion than a reality (i.e., the Amish bit character appears to get more action than the main characters, even with a Thinking that the combo of FBI/ Amish/ doctors/ a mysterious killer sounded a little over the top, I bought this for my sister and hoped for the best. If you want something vaguely Christian-lite ("this must be God's plan for us!") and that really hammers home the theme that this lady can take care of herself and doesn't *need* a man, this is the book for you. Standard awkward romance phraseology abounds regardless, along with some aaaaawkward metaphors: "fingers of awareness kneaded the back of her neck"; "the cold fingers of dread scraped across the back of his neck"; "the hot fingers of regret tightened around her neck"; "fingers of unease squeezed at her throat." "A shudder twined its way up her spine"; "unease slid its way up her spine"; "unease threaded its way up her spine." Etc. sigh.

Plain Cover-up is a great book that deals two issues that every community faces - drugs and unreported assaults. While it is a stand-alone book, author Alison Stone has set other books in Apple Creek, NY and some of the characters in those books are included in this one. There's no need to read them to understand any of the plot but you should read them because they also great books. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and book promotion. Alison has done it again and written another story that I read in one setting because I couldn't put it down after I started it. The action and suspense started with the first pages and had me on the edge of my seat until the last pages. As with her other stories, I enjoy the relationship that is shown between the Amish community and the Englischers that are there to support their community.
