I have not read any of the K-9 series, but I found these two stories to be well written with very likeable characters. My favorites, though, are the dogs in the K-9 Unit. No dogs were injured in the writing of these stories. These are great Christmas stories for those that like a little Christmas gift wrapped around a good mystery. Although a part of a series, these are stand-alone and need not be read in any particular order. My thanks to the authors / Harlequin (US & Canada) / Netgalley. The opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Rookie K-9 Unit Christmas contains two novellas: Surviving Christmas and Holiday High Alert. I liked how the characters from the first novella were in the second one, as well. I loved the K-9 dogs -- they were amazing. I also found the mysteries to be interesting. There were a couple times the story felt unrealistic, which I didn't like. All in all, I enjoyed this book and am glad I read it. *Disclosure of Material Connection: I received one or more of the products or services mentioned above for Rookie K-9 Unit Christmas contains two novellas: Surviving Christmas and Holiday High Alert. But as the threat escalates, can Zoe and her police dog find whoever is menacing Sean and his son…and make sure this Christmas isn't their last? My thoughts: Surviving Christmas is a real sweet romantic suspense. Sean and Zoe used to be friends, and he is the only one he can think of to turn to when invaders break into his St. Louis apartment and attempt to kill him. He heads off to Arizona to hangout with Zoe and perhaps get matched with a service dog for his PTSD or for his son's disabilities due to lack of oxygen after a near drowning. But as per normal with these stories, the assassins follow Sean to Arizona and make more attempts on his life, even dragging kidnapping the boy into it. I loved reading about the service dogs and might have learned a trip or two about handling hyper dogs (I'll have to try it on ours to see if it works). I enjoyed reading Surviving Christmas and loved the way Ms. Hansen wrapped the story up. Holiday High Alert by Lenora Worth After a cryptic note appears in the playground at Josie Callahan's daycare center, rookie K-9 officer Dalton West vows to protect Josie and the kids she loves—especially his daughter, Maisy. And with a stalker closing in, the widower and his four-legged partner are all that stand between Josie and a deadly Christmas. My thoughts: I enjoyed reading Holiday High Alert by Ms. Worth. It was nice to read a story centered around characters that appeared in the first story in this collection and seeing how they tied together. There was a little *unfinished* feel about this story, I would've liked to see it continue a little longer and have some relationship differences resolved. However, the suspense was great and I didn't guess whodunit until "he" was revealed. This story was a little less stressful than most of the romantic suspense I've read recently, but still very good. Overall thoughts... I enjoyed this collection and recommend it for fans of romantic suspense. A great Christmassy read. 4 stars.

Surviving Christmas by Valerie Hansen is a delightful Christian romantic thriller about second chances and trust. Suffering from PTSD, veteran Sean sees danger everywhere, but it is not always in his head. He has to learn to trust others, his own instincts and God, whom he believed had abandoned him. "There had been a time when he'd believed God was guiding him... now he felt adrift." Whenever we feel adrift we must cling to our anchor God who will always guide us home safely. "There had been a time when he'd believed God was guiding him... now he felt adrift." Whenever we feel adrift we must cling to our anchor God who will always guide us home safely. The novel shows the partnership of man and dog, and man and God. Both can work well when they are in tune and both can be trusted. There is the theme of healing - sometimes mental, sometimes physical or spiritual. Sometimes we grip a situation so hard that we block healing. We need to loosen our grip and let the healing flow. A delightful read with all the elements we could wish for in an entertaining tale. Holiday High Alert by Lenora Worth is a marvellous Christian romantic mystery which I really enjoyed. There are themes of revenge, power, love and hope. The love of money is the root of all evil. Money can motivate people to behave in some despicable ways. "People... will do anything especially when it involves money." Money can be used for good but the love of money corrupts. Past events may also become warped and twist our way of thinking and behaving. The novel is also about love and protection. The love of a father is strong. The pull to protect motivates behaviour. Likewise the K9 unit is also trained to protect. Our father God can be trusted. When all seems bleak, He will never leave us. He is not without power but because of free will, there is evil in the world. "He [God] watched and He cried because God hates evil." Whatever we face, God walks alongside us. There are burdens in the novel, some we were never meant to carry. We need to give our burdens to God and press into Him. If we know God, we can have hope. "We have to hold out hope." Hope that life will be better with God alongside us. A delightful story with elements for all to enjoy. Rookie K9 Unit Christmas was a wonderful read. Both stories were linked by their characters and had similar themes of trust, hope, corruption by power and money, survival, love and faith. Delightful read together or as stand-alones. I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.

I enjoyed these two romantic suspense stories. Yes, it may seem far-fetched that in each one, someone is under threat by someone they don't know. But that along with the police dogs is the premise of the series. By this stage the main running series crime thread has been resolved. I did think this book talked too much about it for those who haven't read that book. Spoiler for you! On the other hand you might enjoy the police dogs and romances so much that you'll read it anyway. A Belgian shepher I enjoyed these two romantic suspense stories. Sean has reached out to his best friend Zoe for help as he is concerned about Patrick’s safety after someone breaks into his house. Because he is dealing with after effects of the war he doesn’t totally trust his instincts. Zoe is a character you're absolutely going to love. She strong, funny and just a good person. The author created interesting and witty dialogue between her and Sean. The dogs are always a great addition to the story. The author brings them alive and they feel like additional characters in the story. Freya, a Belgian Tervuren was awesome in how she took to Patrick immediately. The story is full of action and heartwarming scenes. Holiday High Alerty by Lenora Worth is the second story in the book and a continuation of the K9 series. I was thrilled that Josie has her own story. We have come to love all of these characters and they finally got their happy ending. Macy is an absolutely adorable little girl with a mothering instinct. I love how she and Patrick bonded. We got a sneak peek at Dalton from the previous books. We get to find the backstory of how his wife was killed and the guilt that both he and Macy are dealing with as a result. Josie's background was interesting too. She is a widow. It's a short story with a lot of action and some heartwarming scenes between Macy and her dad Dalton. I would definitely recommend both books if you enjoy a romantic mystery sprinkled with some faith and surrounded by holiday cheer. I received this book from NetGalley. This is a good read about two local law enforcement officers with the K-9 unit. It’s interesting to see how the K9 and officers interact with one another and how they do their job. Sean learns that he is preventing Patrick from developing to his full potential. Can he let his guard down and co tell his fear enough to see Patrick blossom? Maisy and Zoe are great for the boys but will they let them in? I felt that Zoe and Sean has a past relationship but you don’t really hear what happened so it’s kinda like their love blooms quickly. As for Dalton and Josie they both have a past. Can Dalton let go of his fear and begin the true healing process from losing his wife? Can Josie trust him enough with her past to help him catch whoever is after her? Will she lose everything she has worked so hard to build in her new life? The relationship for Dalton and Josie sneaks up and smacks you! But at the end of the day God is in control.

Surviving Christmas Sean is a returning Vet and someone is trying to kill him. Sean and his little boy have already been through a lot. Sean was in the military and was returning home when his son had an accident, Patrick almost drowned in a swimming pool at his grandmothers. The vehicle Sean was riding in was blown up by an IED. While all this was going on Patrick's mother overdosed on drugs. So the book starts out with a whirlwind of events and continues through the whole book. Rookie K-9 Unit Christmas is two novellas featuring two new K-9 units. Both of the story are very sweet and also filled with Christian references. I did not realize that when I accepted an ARC of the book for a honest review. I read both stories. They have some very nice characters with some problems that reflect some current issues. They also have some very cute and interesting dogs. If you are looking for a easy and sweet Christmas romance this is a good choice.

Love the strong character in this series and the way the authors blend them together. You can read alone but I like them so much I usually read all of them. Part of a series but I like to read all of them and get to know all the characters. I find it amazing so many authors can coordinate their stories and keep the story believable. A little love and lots of action.

Sometimes they are the same. In Surviving Christmas, Sean Murphy deals with someone trying to kill him, PSTD, losing his wife, and raising his six-year-old son Patrick. Patrick had almost drowned in his maternal grandmother’s pool and was suffering from speech and motor skills. Sean would do anything to help Patrick and to keep him safe. Sean was in Afghanistan when Patrick nearly drowned and on his way to the airport, the SUV he was in was hit by an IED. Sean was the only survivor. He had visited two of the three families of the men he had been with. One family was cordial and one family was quite angry. Now, when Sean was sleeping, he had dreams which woke him up. One night was no different. However, it wasn’t a dream, but two intruders. One said they were not to touch the little boy but only Sean. They were to kill him. Sean attacked them managing to break one’s arm and they both ran. Sean knew he needed help and turned to his friend Zoe Trent, a police officer who was now in Desert Valley, Arizona at the Canyon County K-9 Training Center. She now had until after Christmas to return to her job in Mesa, Arizona. She invited Sean to come stay with her and she would try to see if they could match him up with a service dog. Will he qualify for a dog? Will the dog work? Will the men follow him? Who is trying to kill him and why? The second book, Holiday High Alert, also takes place in Desert Valley, Arizona. Josie Callahan and her Aunt Marilyn had opened a day care in Desert Valley where they cared for the children of the men and women who were at the Canyon County K-9 Training Center. This had been a dream of Josie’s for a long time. Now it was true and was doing well. One evening, she stayed late with Maisie West. Her father, Dalton, had completed the K-9 course but stayed on to relieve officers over Christmas and get more training. His wife had been killed in an home invasion-kidnapping the year before, leaving him shattered and trying to raise a ten-year-old daughter. This evening he was running late. For the first time since opening, Josie felt uneasy in the day care. She double checked the windows and doors while Maisie read. Then, she heard someone at the back door. Thinking it was Dalton, she went to open it. However, Dalton came in the front door. Who was at the back door? When Dalton investigated, he found a threatening note addressed to Josie. Who would be threatening her and why? Could Dalton find out before Josie was hurt? Both books are quite suspenseful and are also a quiet romance. The emotional well-being of the children is also addressed. The books are escapism with a dose of real-life problems being addressed.

This is a great book, you get two stories for the price of one.... In the first part of the book, we get the story of Sean who is a combat military veteran, he suffers from PTSD and he is a single father. Someone is after him, he calls up his friend from college K-9 Officer Zoe to help him with finding who is out to get him and he will do anything to protect his son.... He also gets a service animal angel to help with the PTSD. Zoe has always had a thing for Sean and she deals with his PTSD real This is a great book, you get two stories for the price of one.... This was a differnet kind of story, Sean has to take a backset to protecting his son and himself, Zoe and her K-9 partner is the one doing the protecting in more ways then one... There is action and some romance and a very happy ending. I don't want to say to much, but this book was great.... Zoe was great with Sean and his son, along with the PTSD. In the 2nd part of the book we see K-9 Officer Dalton West and his furry partner. He is helping protect Joise, who runs the day care center and is getting threatening notes. As he and his K-9 and daughter spend time around her sparks fly... There is also the danger factor to this. Again not giving to much away, but this also ends in a Happy Ending! I am loving all the K-9 books, you will too!!!!! *** I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book*********

As much as Josie doesn't want to think about the past, that is the only thing that she believes could have brought trouble to her doorstep. I loved Zoe and Sean also Josie and Dalton. I think Sean's son was by far my favorite character. Well, except maybe Maisy. Being back in the town and seeing old characters (friends) is wonderful. These authors do a great job in keeping you invested in the stories. The dogs are awesome and I love them being heroes in these stories as well. I cannot wait to read more about what happens in this 'quiet' little town. Absolutely a 4/5 for me. Quick wonderful additions to the series. I was not required to write a positive review. You can see my full review at More Than a Review dot com where I rate the level of sex, violence, language and drug/alcohol use in books.

Even though the stories does have a similar baseline, they are both unique and original with their plot. In Surviving Christmas both Sean and his son have heartwrenching histories that have left marks on their body and soul. Zoe is like the beam of light in their lives, and the old friendship takes a new meaning as they are fighting to keep Sean alive and his son from being kidnapped. This story touched my heart, and I enjoyed it immensely. The action is fast, the danger was constant, the development of the relationship sweet and deeply felt. Sean's struggle to find his footing again after military service, not only with his job, health, and his son's health but in every possible way including his faith in God was poignant and true. In Holiday High Alert Dalton and his daughter Maisy are still healing from the death of wife and mother. The hurt and pain little Maisy carries inside were heartbreaking. Josie has been the safe harbor in Maisy's life, and now that is set in danger by life-threatening messages and action. Josie and Dalton were outright cute in this novella. The feelings that had been growing inside them started to burst out like there was no holding back. The danger is real, the threats evident, the consequences actual. I loved how the whole unit rallied around Josie to help her and keep her safe. A heartwarming romance mixed with tension and peril from the crimes. Lots of deep emotions, from love and joy to fear and doubt, great characters with deep faith in God and His guidance in life, good teamwork with the K-9 unit and four legged friends that make the stories even more delightful if that's possible. ~ Four Spoons with a teaspoon on the side

Surviving Christmas by Valerie Hansen When single dad Sean Murray returns from a war zone and discovers someone is following him, he turns to his old friend K-9 officer Zoe Trent for help. But as the threat escalates, can Zoe and her police dog find whoever is menacing Sean and his son…and make sure this Christmas isn't their last? Can Zoe and Freya protect Sean and his son from an unknown threat that keeps stalking and trying to kill Sean? Valerie Hansen never disappoints and putting her in a collection with Lenora Worth is brilliant! Suspense readers will love this one! My thoughts: Both Josie and Dalton are leery of getting involved romantically with anyone. Dalton's daughter, Maisey doesn't have that problem. She loves Miss Josie and would love to see her with her Daddy. when Josie's past comes back to bite her, can Dalton and his dog keep her safe?

I really enjoyed Surviving Christmas. I loved that even if this was a brief book (Novella) it had loads going on to keep the readers interested. I loved getting to see that bit of progression of the son and seeing him improve with the help of new friends and the K9 dog. I liked seeing Sean questioning and gaining his faith back. I loved seeing the connection between Sean and josie. Overall a really good suspenseful novella. Really packed a punch. Just finished Holiday High Alert and it was pretty great as well. I loved getting to see the character's brief lives and how they deal with the cryptic messages and how everything gets solved in the end. I love how the author keeps the readers on their toes. I really enjoyed this perfect for small reading escapes I needs to get through this stressful holiday season.

I loved this book. These are two of my favorite authors revisiting a place I had come to love. I love that we revisited several of the characters from the previous books. I always enjoy going back to a place and seeing what is happening to them now. These two stories are well written and full of adventure, you are going to love them. These two holiday-themed novellas were cute and well done. I love dogs, so the idea of a romance with K-9 cops was appealing. You get two romance stories in this book, one with a female K-9 officer who falls for a single dad, and one with a male K-9 officer who falls in love with a child care owner. I would read this author again.

Two Christmas novellas that feature our K-9 friends. Story 1 features Sean and his son Patrick. Sean suffers from PTSD and is caring for Patrick who is recovering from almost drowning. Zoe is a friend prepared to help. Story 2 is about a widower and his daughter who are recovering from the loss of the rest of their family. Both deeply set in the church and a strong faith in God. Great reads that aren't too long with satisfying story and endings.

K-9 lover I love animals of all kinds but especially dogs. I have enjoyed reading all the K-9 books in this ands the other two series. You can learn a lot about unconditional love from a dog.
