Of course, having to find his father's killer and taking care of Missy, a barely legal teenager who is very pregnant with his half-sister, is going to take some time. On top of all that Beau is the prime suspect in his father's murder and uncovering Daddy Dearest's Deep Dark Secrets is really painful, but not at all surprising. Just which one of those secrets got him killed is what Beau and Cassidy will need to discover. Cassidy is a PI with Maximum Security in Dallas, TX. Former Texas State Senator, Stewart Reese, has hired her to do some investigating. Shortly after she starts the job, he is stabbed to death and the only suspect is his son, Beau. At first Cassidy didn't know if Beau was guilty or not. All she knew was that he was one very hot, sexy, handsome, billionaire and, in order to prove his innocence, he desperately needs her help. What she doesn't need is to fall in love with him.

Beyond Danger enthralls readers with lots of suspense and a romance that begins with a very uneasy alliance. Anticipation steadily builds throughout the story, not only in regards to the romance but the danger and excitement that stems from nefarious characters that are dead set on keeping Cassidy and Beau from learning their secrets. The twists and thrills ensure that this fast paced story never has a dull moment and that readers aren’t sure just who the real enemy is nor what he is really up to. I have read lots of great books by Kat Martin, but this is the first one in the Texas Trilogy that I have read and I have to tell you that I can’t believe that I haven’t read the first one yet, because as usual Kat Martin paints vivid pictures of her stories that make the readers feel as if they are part of the unfolding story. Beyond Danger was a very exciting read that kept me glued to the pages and not only am I going back and reading Beyond Reason, but I can’t wait to read Beyond Control, which is due to be released in May.

I enjoyed Beau's story as much as Linc's. Cassidy was an awesome kickass character and great for Beau. The mystery of Beau's father's death takes all kinds of twists and turns. I look forward to reading Josh's story next. I hope she continues beyond #3 like she has before. Plenty of guys left to have a great story. I enjoyed Beau's story as much as Linc's. This book started out as a thriller. Finding his father murdered, Beau is found standing over the body with the murder weapon in his hand. So it begins. Kat Martin has the ability to draw a vivid picture that readers will feel as if they are in the story. Beyond Danger is a well crafted romance story that will keep readers glued to the pages. The author has the ability to keep a steady pace as the story moves forward as she fills in the details of the people and the world she created. The romance is front and center with the suspense taking a back to seat many times. Thank you to Netgalley and Zebra Publisher for the advance copy

Beau and Cassidy meet at his father's home and he assume's she is his father's latest love interest. She is definitely not and when Beau's father killed in his own home, Beau is found standing over his body with the bloody knife in his hand. Were they at odds enough for Beau to kill him? Especially after Beau finds out that his father, a former state senator, has impregnated a very young woman. I loved the chemistry between Beau and Cassidy and I will go back and read Linc's story in the first book. Beau reminds me a little of Thomas Magnum from the Magnum PI series of the 1980's. Lots of twists and turns that keep the reader involved and Martin's ability to keep the reader engaged and drawn to the characters prevails throughout. A great read!

I liked it well enough to keep reading it though it seemed... stretched out, too long at 367 pages. I recommend it both as a romance and as a mystery. It does well with both. The main characters were well matched and a step above the average. The end seemed to wrap up too fast. I spent the book waiting for it to get somewhere and the clues were so spread out and slow in coming then suddenly there's a breakthrough in their mystery almost at the very end and there's an avalanche of information and I liked it well enough to keep reading it though it seemed... stretched out, too long at 367 pages. I don't really know that that's a problem though, it just seemed strange to go through the drawn out story and then have it wrap up so quickly. Worth reading. Never read a Kat Martin book before. Will look at her others and see if anything else catches my eye.

Connie called out in a voice tinged with her African American heritage and her Detroit upbringing. ...I couldn't even imagine what possessed the author to write this, and for it to go unchecked by the editor. Yes, I realize that the editor may have pointed this out but the author decided to keep it there, but I doubt that. But white authors... I PROMISE you, this isn't the way to write black characters. AT ALL!! And then, the ending came WAY out of left field that I asked out loud "Wait, was that even set up?! Who was this character now?" The way everything was explained just didn't make any sense. Not to mention, it was just BORING. The entire book was just a snoozefest and beyond disappointing.

This was a well-written romantic suspense that kept me turning pages as I tried to figure out what was going on. Beau Reese and his father, a Texas state senator, had never seen eye to eye. Beau preferred to keep his distance. Until the day the woman who ran the diner in town, Josie, and her nineteen year old daughter, Missy, came to see him. Beau Reese and his father, a Texas state senator, had never seen eye to eye. Beau preferred to keep his distance. Until the day the woman who ran the diner in town, Josie, and her nineteen year old daughter, Missy, came to see him. Missy is pregnant and the baby is the senator's, a fact proven by a DNA test. Beau's father offered Missy money for an abortion but when Missy refused, the man said he wanted nothing more to do with her. Beau is furious when he heads to his father's ranch, after assuring Missy and her mother he'll take care of them and Missy will never have to worry about money again. Of course, he and his father argue but at least the senator agrees to sign over full custody of the child to Missy along with the promise to not interfere in their lives. However, when Beau returns with the papers for his father to sign, he finds his father lying on the floor with a letter opener sticking out of his chest. The man is still breathing so Beau does what he can to try and save him. Cassidy Jones is a private investigator, hired by Beau's father after the senator is convinced someone is following him. She's posing as his new assistant when she walks into his office to find Beau leaning over his dad's body, clutching the murder weapon in his hand. He screams at her to call 9-1-1 but its too late. The senator expires. His death sets Cassidy and Beau on an investigation together as they try to determine who the killer was and the motive behind the killing. While Beau is certainly suspect, Cassidy believes in his innocence. She's more inclined to believe the killer is connected to whomever was tailing the senator. The more Beau and Cassidy dig into the case, the more apparent it becomes that now their lives are in danger. But neither one will give up, not until they bring the guilty party to justice. This one had enough twists and turns to keep me guessing to the last. The romance between Beau and Cassidy was a nice touch even though the reason behind Beau's reluctance to get involved didn't seem to fit his character and the way he was portrayed. He'd lost the love of his life to cancer and was afraid of getting close to anyone like that again. Given his tough-as-nails exterior and the way he dives head first into finding his father's killer, it just seemed out of character for him to back away from Cassidy given his feelings for her. Even so, this was a solid four and a half stars for me.

I loved the characters, Beau and Cassidy. Beau we met in the first book, each book is a stand-alone you don't have to read it, he is a retired race car driver who prefers his sports cars to the company SUV, unless it's necessary. He also has a horrible relationship with his father and hasn't been back home in the last five years the only thing that brought him back this time is the fact that his uncaring father got a barely legal girl pregnant. Beau being a better man than his father tells her he'll take care of everything. including having his father sign over the parental rights to the unborn child. Cassidy is a private investigator, her main job is finding facts, she's very good at what she does and she loves it too. She is tenacious and will not stop until she has the answers, she's even helped co-workers to capture a variety of bunch of bad people in the past so it's no wonder that former Senator, Stewart Reese, asked her to investigate the possibility that someone may be out to get him. Reese has had the feeling that someone has been watching him so Reese moves Cassidy on to the property, but before she can really start doing her job she walks in and finds Beau leaning over his dead father with a bloody letter opener in his hand. Beau had just came back from the lawyers in Dallas with the papers for his father to sign, Beau had prepared himself for another argument but instead just finds his father dying on the floor with a letter opener in his chest. Beau knows the police can only go so far in their investigation and as the prime suspect to his father's murder he knows he has to dig deep in his father's dirty dealings to find the real person responsible, so he hires Cassidy to help. They begin to dig deep into the dark recesses of Stewart Reese's life stirring up trouble along the way, unfortunately the more they dig the volatile the antagonist becomes and the more dangerous it becomes for Beau and Cassidy. For Beau it was lust at first sight Cassidy trying to be more professional tried to keep her feeling separate from the facts of the case, but her instincts tell her to trust Beau. The more their lives are put in danger the more protective Beau feels over Cassidy and soon he realizes it's more that just lust but before they can proceed with any kind of relationship they need to clear Beau's name and find the real killer. Overall, another Kat Martin book to love. I always enjoy Martin's writing style and while I loved the Brodies I'm glad that these, so far, have been separate from that series. I look forward to the next book.

I enjoyed reading Beyond Danger - up to a point. The characters are more or less likeable, the suspense is good and the romance is hot. There are, however, a few plot details that don't really add up - especially the part where the author keeps insisting Beau is a murder suspect but he's still free to come and go as he pleases. And the plot, well, it comes to a point where it complicates so much I was a bit lost. What I thought would imply solving a murder actually turned out to be a terrorist conspiracy of a scale no one could have foreseen. Kudos to the author for making it work, but honestly? It didn't feel 100% realistic. Still, if you're looking for a fast-paced but a bit overly complicated suspense/conspiracy book, then Beyond Danger might just be perfect for you. The second book in the Texas Trilogy is fantastic! Reading Beau's story after meeting him in "Beyond Reason" was all you could want in a suspense story of Beau and Cassidy. Their romance is blazing hot, but the mystery and secrets that draw them together and keep them together will keep you reading this book till you finish it! I totally recommend it as well as the first book in the series! Exciting romantic suspense. Interesting family and friend relationships. Strong woman meets strong, but damaged man. Their lives are endangered. Cool cars! I skipped the intimate sex scenes, but the story kept me engaged from beginning to end. Not a simple solution! I look forward to reading the next one in the trilogy. The publisher provided a copy via NetGalley for my voluntary review.

This book starts off with a bang, pulling the reader into what promises to be a riveting, suspense-filled story involving interesting, dynamic characters. Unfortunately, for me personally, that really strong opening fizzled out by about 20% into the book. The pace of the story was bogged down by what I felt were unimportant details, and I found myself losing interest and skimming large chunks of text. The pace of the story was bogged down by what I felt were unimportant details, and I found myself losing interest and skimming large chunks of text. Also, although the mystery aspect of the book is strong, the romance part takes more of a backseat; I would say this is more of a mystery with some romance sprinkled in rather than a romantic suspense book. Finally, this book is the second in the series, which I didn't realize going in. Although it became obvious that there had been a story prior to this one, at no point did I feel like I needed to have read the first book to understand what was going on in this one; this can definitely be read as a standalone. If you are looking for a good mystery with strong characters, give this one a try. If you're more interested in a romance with a suspenseful backdrop, you might want to look elsewhere. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC for review.

Kat Martin’s new series Texas Trilogy is classical love story with contemporary problems and villains. Of course his father hired shortly before he died young and beautiful helper Cassidy, and Beau is convinced that she was his father’s last mistress when in reality she was his assistant. So a handsome, tall, powerful and controlling Beau and beautiful, vulnerable and storing Cassidy – what do you thinks where it takes us. Of course to the bed and of course their bedroom bliss is disturbed by somebody who wants to do something bad and since we live at the time when terrorism is in everybody’s mind, the villains must be terrorists and our two lovebirds save a lot of people from terrible disaster. As I said a cookie cutter story. Readable.

If ever there were a perfect time for a story about a corrupt senator, now is it. In Kat Martin’s romantic suspense, Beyond Danger (out Jan. 30), not only do we get the second installment of the Texas Trilogy, we get a zinger of a dirtbag. Sen. Stewart Beaumont Reece may have just retired, but he’s not letting that slow him down … in business, in politics or in knocking up a 19-year-old. There’s very little redeeming qualities about this 60-year-old, a fact that does not escape his estranged son, If ever there were a perfect time for a story about a corrupt senator, now is it. There’s very little redeeming qualities about this 60-year-old, a fact that does not escape his estranged son, Beau. And like any great instigator, Stew whips life around him into a frenzy, then manages to get murdered. Leaving Beau and the people around him, as usual, to clean up the mess. A week before his death, the senator hired Cassidy Jones as his personal assistant. But unlike most of the assistants in his past — and to Beau’s relief — “assistant” is not a euphemism this time. She’s actually a private investigator looking into Stewart’s concerns that he’s being followed. When Beau finds his dad with a letter opener sticking out of his heart, his instinct is to help. And that’s how Cassidy finds them: Beau holding the bloody letter opener in one hand and using the other to press on the wound. It did not look good. But since she wants his cooperation in continuing to investigate the Senator’s stalker, she has to rely on her instinct. Death is never an easy business, particularly when murder is the cause. Too many unanswered questions. Too many unresolved feelings. And when you’re the senator’s only son and the prime suspect in your father’s murder, too much red tape to mire through to find any resolution. People on Cassidy’s list of suspects are dropping like flies … and don’t even get me started on the race to find the real killer before Beau goes down for good. Martin is always a safe bet for me, because she consistently develops such great characters and has great pacing. There are lots of twists and turns in this one, and a handful of car chases that would make Steve McQueen proud (albeit sorrowful, since both a Lamborghini AND a Ferrari are wrecked). There’s even a terrorist and an assassin. Hmm … who knew? *Originally published at USA Today Happy Ever After: http://happyeverafter.usatoday.com/20....

As he had been a lousy father, Beau wants to take care of the girl and baby and tells his father that he will have papers drawn up granting the mother, Missy Kessler sole custody and that Beau will take care of his sibling and the mother. His father has no problem with that, and apparently has a new "babe" who he claims is his new personal assistant. The "assistant" is actually, PI Cassidy Jones, who Stewart hired because he believed he was being followed. When Beau returns the next day, he finds his father on the floor with a letter opener sticking out of his heart. Without thinking (never remove a protruding object unless you are medically trained or touch a murder weapon), he pulls the letter opener out and tries to do compression. Of course that's when Cassidy walks in. 911 is called, but of course he does not survive. Beau is now the main suspect and he hires Cassidy to help him find the murder. Beau has never gotten over losing his college sweetheart to cancer and has vowed never to put himself out there again. But he is so attracted to Cassidy and the feelings are reciprocated. Cassidy knows the Beau is still in love with Sarah and she is not a long-term kind of girl. But as they work together and the danger increases, so does their need for each other. Will they be able to walk away when the case is solved? Another exciting book by Kat Martin. Her characters are always fascinating and well developed. Searching for the real killer leads into more danger and a tangled web with a surprise ending.
