Painfully true and believable, Action Comics #988 treads on the usual "we do not deserve heroes" shtick as Oz goes full Wonder Woman movie villain Ares (view spoiler)[who we now know as Jor-El (hide spoiler)] after witnessing all the evil and destruction man is capable of. Of course in the end, Superman would stand on defending the people of the world and with head held up high say that he's the beacon of hope, truth and justice. This cover really reminds me of something. This cover really reminds me of something. Issue 988 does not have anymore the element of mystery since Oz's identity was revealed last issue. Instead, it relies on keeping the interest of its readers by telling his backstory. Though majority of his story revolves around him being brainwashed by all types of History channel documentaries about war and being stuck in a war-torn place, the issue places some more evidences on what extent is Dr. Manhattan's influence over the DC universe and who he is working it. The clues are subtle and missable, but they're there.

Interesting learning about Jor-El’s take on humanity. I probably would have agreed with him when I was younger. Excited to see where this goes.

I'll admit I wasn't looking forward to this but was pleasantly surprised. Jorel's story seems to check out and I'm glad they went a different route with his end goal. Usually it's "humanity is bad or beneath us so let's destroy them" but instead Jorel's plan is to "escape" with his long lost son. Though only time will tell if this is all legit or not 😂😂😂

Really? Jorel? Can it truly be? I am pretty sure this is not the case, but I will hang around until #1,000 just to be sure.

"Um...that's stupid." That's exactly what I said out loud as this issue came to a close. From the first to the last panel...stupid. Tired tropes being done in even less interesting ways than the hundreds to come before. I expect a heck of a lot more from DC.
