(Please note, I have a story in this anthology, which I'm leaving out of my review.) This 600+page heavyweight of horror fiction is a chocolate-box with just about every sub-genre of horror included: police procedural, gothic, supernatural, body horror, noir, ghost, paranormal romance; you name it, this anthology has it. Something for everyone! (Please note, I have a story in this anthology, which I'm leaving out of my review.) Upon getting the book, I immediately started reading it. It is my understanding that this anthology wanted to prove that women can write horror. Well shoot, I already knew that, but let me tell you, this second installment in the series (and please, please, please let there be a third!) proves women can write horror and in many cases give you better chills than a man. This anthology is broken down into four different segments; Another Space, Another Time; Monster Party; Cognitive Deception; and The Changed and the Undead. This made it easy to choose a story according to what mood you are in. (I already discussed the fact that I can be a moody reader), and the format at the front of the book made it easy to just click on a story and viola, I am there! The fact that there are 38 contributors to this book, it made it more enjoyable to read it that way. I will not take the time to break down each story, but I will say there is most definitely something for everyone! I would go so far as to say I dare you to not find something for your reading pleasure in this book! The best part of this book? Have you forgotten “Ninetoes Rule of Reading #2”? I now have 38 authors to look at for more reading! Well, not 38 per se, I am aware of a few of them, but you get the gist. Bottom line, get this book. Seriously, go, get the book. Buy a copy for a friend while you are at it! I give this 5 Bookmarks out of 5!

My review for Killing It Softly 2 Killing It Softly 2 is a big book. Thirty-eight stories to be exact. All by women. All unique. All terrifying. And all wonderfully well written. Kudos to editor Suzie Wargo Lockhart for putting together this superb collection. Killing It Softly 2 puts to rest the ridiculous notion that women can’t write horror. These stories hit hard, cut deep, and leave scars. I don’t usually single out individual stories in a review, but in this case, I will because these particular stories will stick with me for a very long while. “The Whims of My Enemy” by Amanda J. Spedding, “Scarecrow” by Vonnie Winslow Crist, “Death Warmed Over” by Rachel Caine, and my personal favorite “Bloody Rain” by Rie Sheridan Rose. While every one of these stories is cringe worthy and will make your skin crawl, some will also bring you to tears and some will make you cheer. Bloody amazing and highly recommended!
