The book would have benefited from better editing; numerous grammatical errors are present. At the level of content, there is a lot of coverage of non-economic topics. This second volume, which is supposed to be a sequel to a book that by all indications was a one volume affair rather than a 'Volume 1', like its predecessor seems mysteriously preoccupied with comparing India and China on various metrics where a comparison with other smaller, lower-income countries would be more appropriate. Cov The book would have benefited from better editing; numerous grammatical errors are present. Coverage and discussion of economic issues in various sectors of interest is comprehensive, though there are also shrill attempts to frame incidental, exogenously driven developments like increased FDI in the context of Indian currency devaluation as policy successes. While generally honest in its assessment of the ineffective demonetization move, the book overstates the significance of increased digitalization of the economy, and is sparse in discussion of its impact on the informal economy. All in all it reads like a rushed book, which it might well be given its attempt to address recent economic events of interest: the demonetisation of large denomination currency, and the introduction of the General Service Tax. If you own a copy of the previous volume this second volume is a good one to own as a reference work about the complete official account of the 2016-17 economic environment in India.
