After a year of working as a tour guide in the swamps of Louisiana--and the day after a man’s body is found in a canal--former Police Chief Clint Wolf realizes he can’t stay away from law enforcement work forever. Ditching his paddle for a pistol, he rejoins the Mechant Loup Police Department, but this time as their chief investigator, and he works beside Police Chief Susan Wilson as they seek to solve the mystery in the canal. While it isn’t odd to find drowned bodies floating in the vast waterways of Louisiana from time to time, it is unusual to find a body with six bullet holes in its back. This first case back for Clint won’t be a walk in the park, but a blue truck and a single piece of paper might be the key to everything. The only problem? The truck has seemingly vanished into thin air and no one can find the piece of paper.

This is Bourg’s fourth offering in the Clint Wolf police procedural series. Clint is now the Chief Investigator for the Mechant Loup Police Department working alongside Police Chief Susan Wilson. Three teenage boys discover a dead body on the muddy flats of the Louisiana Bayou and the mystery of the man’s identity and why he has 6 bullet holes in his back has the MLPD puzzled. The slow-to-develop evidence points to an intriguing tale with plenty of twists. Enjoy!

I just finished another good book in this series by this author. Once again he did a good job with the location of the story. I liked the main character and the secondary characters. The story moved at a pretty good pace. It is nice to follow the characters and see them change and grow. It is a small town you have to take that in account with these crimes happening, maybe a little hard to believe on that end. If there would be no crime then there would be no stories lol. This is a Great "Wow" Read Grabs you from page one. Holds you until the last page. My only complaint, it was too short. Great cast of characters. You can't even dislike the bad guys. Many surprises with so many twists and turns. I do appreciate stories today that doesn't involve sex episodes. This is a Great "Wow" Read Grabs you from page one. Holds you until the last page. A twisty mystery is the basis for the fourth book in the Clint Wolf series. This book starts a year after the events of book three. There are a few things that don’t jibe exactly with info from previous books (like where the money came from to build a new house while also fully renovating a dilapidated mansion when Clint gave his entire savings as a reward for info in a previous case and how Clint could sell “his” house when in book one we are told it belonged to his father-in-law.) A brief explanation of those things would have made the story more smooth since those kind of details take my head out of a story. This mystery is an interesting one and while several great red herrings are offered the final reveal is well done. Every time I got a new clue I developed a new theory only to have it dashed by yet another clue! So much fun for a lover of mysteries. Also like how once again the author has common themes running through different storylines in the book providing a sense of cohesion and continuity.

The first three books in the series had a number of storylines that got pulled together in book three ('But Not Forsaken') - to my mind the best in the series so far. That leaves 'But Not Forever' with a startup problem as Clint had quit the police force after killing the man who murdered his wife and child (it was ruled a legal killing but Clint knows what he did). Susan has been promoted to police Chief and Clint is filling in his time working as a tour guide in the swamp. Together they have repaired the plantation house and, towards the end of the book, it opens as a shelter for abused women - I can only assume that this will provide a backdrop for books to come.. Clint gets the chance to get back into law enforcement as the solo detective for the town of Mechant Loup, working with but not for Susan. After the frantic pace of 'But Not Forsaken' this is a far more leisurely and linear book. It's clever but not outstanding.

This entry has protocol and procedural problems with interviews, and also problems with the investigation itself. This book is #4, which makes me think the author hasn’t yet hit his stride. I’ll keep reading this series!

Another winner! BJ Bourg has done it again with the newest installment with Clint Wolf and The Crew. I was very pleased that not only did BJ Bourg bring back my favorite Characters but a great action filled, keep you on your toes, entertaining story all in one. I won't give away any of the storyline but suffice it to say BJ is an author worth reading because you will never find yourself disappointed with his writing. Louisiana swamp tour guide returns to his life as a police detective, working with his martial arts fighter girlfriend who is the police chief in a small town. BUT NOT FOREVER Boys finding a man’s body along the canal, was interesting of how clues in that area, were looked for and found. Clint realizes the rush is what he misses, and accepts being Chief of Investigation. Susan is gearing up for her last fight. Told her mother, so Clint knew she must be serious. The fight would be a challenge. Working side by side wouldn’t be, and even offices.Interesting plot, and characters we enjoy.

..Is it really Susan's last fight????? Only time and another book will tell. Who is the dead man in the canal? Does the dead teenager conneo or just a terrible coincidence? All these questions znd more will be answered in this, the 4th book in the best-selling series Clint Wolf Series. The writing is outstanding and the characters are ones we know and luv. A fun light read. Would read more in the series if I'm looking for an engaging but straightforward read. The story line is a bit linear and the ending is telegraphed a little, but there are enough twists in an intriguing story to make it enjoyable. The characters are outstanding - well developed and likeable, and it's their relationships and backstory that would probably make me interested in reading another in the series. A fun light read. A good story but not well narrated. Characters not real, not well developed. I’m sorry this author is well written (meaning this is book 4) but too many cliches and too many subjects wanting to be introduced into the life of the two characters for no good reason. Not sure I’ll read another of these books.

A year has passed, with Clint Wolf working as a tour guide in the swamps. Until a body of a man is found at the edge of a canal, then he decides to accept the position of the chief investigator working along side Police Chief Susan Wilson Now they need to investigate who the man is, but this will not be the last body discovered. An enjoyable thriller/mystery story

An Amazingly High Mystery Benchmark! Never has this reader enjoyed so many totally unexpected realistic surprise twists and turns as Bourg created in this well crafted mystery! Calling on his extensive in-depth experience in boxing and police work, combined with an above average creativity, Bourg is a great benchmark of enjoyable mystery writers!

This book took me a while to actually get into it. There was quite a lot of detail by the author, but it seemed to drag before you actually started getting to the good stuff. Once you get to the climax it was quite a turn of unexpected events. I am glad I didn't give up on it, but over half the book was quite dry. This book took me a while to actually get into it. Another winner Mr. Bourg has written another winner. This is a fast paced story that I had a hard time putting down. As with all the books in this series it reads great as a stand-alone story. Good character development on all the regulars. I am looking forward to reading the next in the series.

'But Not Forever' was another awesome addition to one of my favorite series, 'Clint Wolf Mystery'. I wasn't sure how this series was going to continue after the last book, but I'm glad it's going in the direction it is. Well written and well played out. Full of great characters, a great story line, mystery and action. I can't wait to read more. 'But Not Forever' was another awesome addition to one of my favorite series, 'Clint Wolf Mystery'. Clint Wolf worked as a police chief for a long time . Susan his other half was a cop but she also was into wrestling too. She was gonna do one more match and quit so she and Clint could have children. She was a tough gal and was always ready to chase a criminal. Susan also wanted to open a home for abused woman and their children. It was becoming a reality for her.

But Not Forever Mr Bourg tells a fairly good story but his treatment of the children in this story is extremely questionable. For the police to question a child without his/her parents being present is wrong. To conduct a DNA test on a child without parental consent is wrong. To take a small child to watch a brutal MMA fight is also extremely questionable.

I don't review the books, I review the author's efforts and Bourg did a five star job on this one. The story moved fast keeping my interest at a high level, the sexual content was minimal which I appreciate. I don't care about the sexual activities of others even in novels, I don't think they add a thing to the story line. So hats off to BJ and I am on to the next one in the Clint Wolf series. Southern mystery in its best Love these character's as they unravel a rather strange mystery. One murder leads to to a murder 18 years ago several states away.
