Amanda Pig and the Awful, Scary Monster

Availability: Ready to download

Poor Amanda Pig! She's never going to get any sleep with all of the monsters in her room. Or maybe there are no such things as monsters. One thing's for sure, though: Amanda is going to have to be a big girl if she wants the monsters to go away for good.

I've at least heard of this series for awhile, but this was the first installment that I actually sat down and read with my kids. It was a little long for reading aloud, but we all enjoyed it despite the length. I particularly liked how the book dealt with a real-world fear (a monster in the bedroom), and that the fear was overcome in a realistic way--it took some time, as well as the help of her family. Her brother, Oliver's, suggestions were a bit hit-or-miss, in a real sibling manner, but you I've at least heard of this series for awhile, but this was the first installment that I actually sat down and read with my kids. Oliver's name was also a hit in our family, because we have a cousin with the same name.

Amanda knows there are no monsters, her father told her so. He even checked under the bed. But as soon as mother and father leave the room, then she knows there is a monster in the room. But she doesn't want her parents to know she is not brave, so she doesn't wake them up. When she and her brother try to build a monster trap, it traps him instead! Finally, mother gives her a flashlight to put under her pillow at night and Amanda knows there are no monsters! Beginning reader, fantasy, monsters.

I thought this book was really cute it was like any little kids typical life when they are little there is always someone who thinks there are monsters in their closet or under there bed i know i had a similar experience when i was little and the more you try to ignore the fact that there could be a monster the more little noises you hear and you get more frighten. Overall this was a really nice childrens book and its something i would recommend.

For the level of fascination this held for my 6, 4, and 2 year old, definitely four stars! For the nightmares it gave the 6 and 2 year old? Maybe one star. (It's not scary; they are just morbidly fascinated and overly imaginative.)

Amanda Pig things their is a monster in room at night and she tries to come up with ways to detect the monster or get rid of it. Good for kids who are scared of monsters or of the dark. PFJ Easy-To-Read AR 2.4

Short chapters. Amanda Pig is afraid of monsters in her room. Her mother, father, and brother help her over-come her fear. Cute.....
