The Flaming Horses is another beautifully written collection of poems by one of my favorite authors, Stjepan Cobets. I was honored to obtain this new release after reading Stjepan’s previous poetry books. It’s true that Stjepan’s poetry takes me many different places. I find myself constantly reflecting as he invites the reader into his own mind, with many of his poems essentially deeply personal, yet a good number of the poems always relate to my own life in one way or another. Those that don’t personally resonate with me still captivate me. It’s always such an enjoyable experience; fascinating and soul-soothing. There are a few poems that stand out in this collection for me, including When You’re With Me, Night Soul, The Flaming Horses, The Law Of Madness, Play Me Tonight, and The Reason For Peace. 5*****

I liked this book of poetry Another wonderful book of poetry by Mr. Cobets. He employs beautiful imagery give the reader a mental picture of his unique perspective on the world. The reader is taken on a journey through a rage of emotions: the rapture of love, the despair of heartache, regrets over lost loves, and the hopeless fleeting of time among them. I received this book from the author/ poet in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for giving me much enjoyment!

The verses, confessed by the author’s soul, purified the air intoxicated with fear, uncertainty, and anxiety. Healing the wounds and bringing calmness to the restlessness of a day. Stjepan Varesevac Cobets’s mission is completed. His flaming horses can graze in peace.

In February, 2017, I enjoyed reading When The Moon Takes Over The Dream: Love Poetry by Stjepan Varesevac Cobets, a fine collection of mature love poems, I thought. Now, here in March, 2019, I have enjoyed reading his third book of poems, The Flaming Horses: Collection of Poetry. Stjepan Varesevac Cobets is from Split, Croatia, and he has translated his collection of poems from his own language into English. It is interesting to read poems translated into English from another language, I think, for an English poet would never write in his own language in the same way. While When The Moon Takes Over The Dream: Love Poetry is a collection of love poems, as its title suggests, the poems in The Flaming Horses are not all on the same theme. Variety is the spice of life, they say, and one of the pleasures I found in reading this collection of poems was to be constantly surprised by its change in tone and subject, its variety of moods and visions. I was particularly impressed by the first poem in the collection, The Flaming Horses. It reads like a vision of a violent storm, one that could be called Apocalyptic. Here are its final lines: "Under the hoofs, the red hot flame is sparkling and scorching the ground now, The horses want to throw off the riders strongly holding their mane. And though they rear up to the sky for incredible fury, The riders are firmly gripping their fiery bonfire. And as it always happens, fight between dark and light begins, where the victor rules to the last sign of death." It is as if the poet is trying to put the confusion caused by a violent storm into words. Other poems in the book deal with thoughts on the end of the world, loss of faith, pessimism, reflections on the past, love broken and love gained. There is a poem about a childhood toy, another about a kitten. Infinitely is a poem about the pleasure of a family outing in a park. In his poems, the poet explores his dismal and his positive, happy thoughts. In the second verse of Steps Over The Rainbow, the poet sums up the light and dark of the changes in his moods and his outlook on life: "But for me it was nice to walk on the rainbow, and leave marks on colourful prints of sunlight, at least, my world is not always black and white, sometimes it is colourful, happy and cheerful." There are meditations on time, the soul, desire, joy, death, love, loneliness, the past and the future. The Song of Oblivion is one of the poems of mature love which moved me most in the collection. Here is the first verse: "I'd like to sing you this song of oblivion to carry you to the north, far from my thoughts." Rather than keep a journal, some people write their thoughts and feelings down on the page in verse. They are called poets. Stjepan Varesevac Cobets is a fine poet and his poems are well worth reading.

With this collection of poems, Stjepan Cobets has only confirmed his high status that he (at least for me) earned as a poet. I haven’t read his poetry in chronological order, so I don’t know which collection was published before and which after. But this is not important either, since the author always remains consistent with his level and through his poems imaginatively, he expresses new and fresh themes. But this is not important either, since the author always remains consistent with his level and through his poems imaginatively, he expresses new and fresh themes. I have the impression that the poems are a kind of window into his intimate feelings, because the style in which he writes is, above all, honest and direct. If you love poetry, you benefit from reading right from the start; if you’re not a fan of poetry, here’s your chance to become one. You will have the feeling that you are not reading a poet, but that you are reading a sincere friend who writes to you about his world in a wonderful way.
