The author had the good luck to explore unknown regions of the Amazonas jungles, with first ascents of Angel Falls and other natural marvels, to sail across the Atlantic in a 30-foot marine-ply boat, to deal with guerrillas and death squads, hold hands with lovely ladies and skirt round secret police in nineteen locations, twice being cornered with a gun in his ribs. An interesting story of hard beginnings, living through WW11, on to Cambridge, a Fleet Street career before joining MI6 as an agent. David Nott is also an accomplished climber/explorer, sailor and all-round adventurer. Funny at times, deadly serious at others. This is a book of how the world operated during the cold war and a good reminder that history repeats itself. It is also a story about the who these quiet men and women are, who do what we probably couldn't, or dare not as a career choice!

David Nott's exquisitely written "Memoirs of an MI6 Agent" take you to unforeseen territories. I savored how this mortal super hero reveals the thrill of his countless adventures with accurate precision. Every chapter had me on the edge of my seat right from the opening sentence. I kept wondering whether or not, the author was going to pull through. An unrivaled read!
