I'm glad he found happiness after all he went through with his other wives (his current wife is someone I would love to have on my side if something went down). One of his mother-in-laws reminded me of my sister-in-law in some ways *shudders* I don't envy anyone that situation. It was interesting but dragged in a couple parts even though it wasn't boring. The pace kept up enough that it didn't bother me though. It was a fun tidbit to learn he helped score a scene in Jurassic Park :) That whole mess with Patti and that palimony suit... wow. I think that lawyer should have been suspended or something of the like for awhile at least. It seems Patti's lawyer let some of her personal feelings into the case in my opinion. I wanted to smack her for being so smug about Artie's reactions too. Least Artie had some good people in his corner that kept him from being totally railroaded. It was nice though that he was able to forgive her and not hold on to all those bad feelings and that Patti did the same. I admired his work ethic, he was a workhorse and wasn't above learning new things. He admitted his attitude wasn't always the greatest (which some can't do). He didn't sugarcoat his own failings/blame for situations that occurred either. Not many like him still around. I would recommend, you get a glimpse into behind the scenes some of the industry and get to know someone who has led a sometimes complicated life.

Reading Artie Kane's life story flew by. Every page beckons the question, "wow, what next?" Life lessons abound, humility, patience, priorities and forgiveness. A very worthy read for anyone be they involved in the arts or not. Reading Artie Kane's life story flew by. Every page beckons the question, "wow, what next?" Fantastic stories, not only of a personal journey to find love and true companionship but also of the music biz and Hollywood culture. Besides being an engaging story of an astounding eight wives and marriages (breaking even Elizabeth Taylor's record of seven husbands and eight marriages), it also stands as a wonderful historical record. The book preserves in its narrative evocative details of the music world and entertainment industry in New York, Hollywood and Europe spanning over eight decades from the perspective of a child prodigy, pianist and conductor – small details like the beauty and care of the hand-written score for example - the urgency of an orchestra recording live and sight reading on the spot, backstage descriptions of amazing studios and the secret recording processes of some of the biggest names in the music industry - all this soon-to-be-forgotten in our digital age. You hardly ever hear entertainment industry stories like this, from the perspective of those tireless composers, studio musicians and orchestras who have given us the music of the TV shows and films we love. What was absolutely gripping though - was the tone of the narrative, not only funny and sometimes shocking but just the right amount of detail to tell the story, almost as if the reader were invited to private dinner party with Mr. Kane where only his close friends are privy to the real stories behind the scenes. Full of suspense, magical moments of triumph and defeat and those fateful moments of pure luck that change the course of a lifetime. And finally, what was most compelling of all - the entire book was written almost like a film score itself – with an ambient harmonic layer of compassion, as if an angel were viewing the entire life with humor and the humanity of it all.

I've been in the music business in Hollywood for many years and I never tire of learning more about the people I've worked with. I highly recommend this wonderful inside-look at the business through the eyes of a professional. In the interest of full disclosure, my company, Amphora Editions, published this book.

I particularly enjoyed reading about Artie's eight marriages, and his realization that he was playing the role of rescuer. He has been happily married to JoAnn for more than 36 years and is enjoying his roles as a husband, father and grandfather. Highly recommended.

Fantastic read! Reading books has unfortunately become a distant memory since my kids were born, but I couldn't stop reading this one and finished it in one day...a new record! My kids were even forced to figure out their own dinner that day. It's hard to believe that this is just one person's life...there's enough for at least 3 lives. Mr. Kane seems to have started out life with the knowledge and confidence of a wordly traveler, so it's fascinating to see how he navigated the crazy relationships (both business and personal) that life threw at him. The fact that he's a world-class musician makes everything even more interesting. Personal note: my kids, whose primary reading diet consists of "Diary of a Wimpy Kid," "Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle," etc., grabbed this book and read it before I could, and they loved it! Maybe "Music to My Years" should be added to pre-teen books lists!

Music to My Years, Life and Love Between the Notes, by Artie Kane, Marian Blue, and JoAnn Kane, is an autobiographical account of Aaron Cohen’s life. It also describes, in amazing detail, his eight marriages and the consequences he endured by the choices he made. Stories like this are helpful, especially to those untold many who strive for a professional career in the arts. The arts, be it writing, music, drama, movies, what have you, are so different from other professional jobs in that because of the demands they require, often those who pursue these careers are plagued with many pitfalls, disappointments and surprises. Those who, like Artie, are child prodigies often come unequipped to handle the challenges set before them, often giving them many blind spots they have to work through in order to endure. And that’s what you see here in Music to My Years, Life and Love Between the Notes. It’s an honest, lay-it-out-there account of Artie’s successes and failures in life, which, if readers take heed, can be used to help other artists down the road. New York is still New York, and Hollywood really hasn’t changed either. And this book, written with excellent prose, provides guidance and warnings to those who choose this career path, through the eyes of one man who lived that life and survived to tell the story. Highly recommended.

This was a giveaway win book. If I found it in a bookstore I don't know if I would've purchased it. I did not know who Artie Kane was until I read this book. His struggles with self esteem and anxiety and how it affected his life and the lives of those around him were tedious at times. It took a while to read through every marriage ,when he talks about them in such a negative way. He puts a little of the blame on himself after awhile, but most of the book it seemed he wanted to only say he married difficult women...but I mean he had a few issues in his own life. Overall, I enjoyed reading about his life. Seeing the progression of the music industry as it became such a major part of movies and television was interesting. Reading about how he connected to some of the major composers and conductors of my movie and tv soundtracks was enjoyable. His personal life had many ups and downs and I thought it was going to be another typical Hollywood story. But I was pleased he found his way out of the darkness and was able to find his peace. I was glad his story has a happy ending and not a tragic one.

Outstanding memoir! How many musicians write their memoirs in such great detail with such honesty and self-deprecation? Interesting This book presents an inspiring story of an artist and musical talent who overcame many failures to reap success. It is filled with honesty even if the artist is shown in a bad light. If you enjoy music or have wondered about the music played during movies or television programs then this book is educational.
