Just Dumb Enough is a serial novella written by seven different authors, collectively known as The Marcher Lords. The novella is written in first person with alternating viewpoint characters. Now with seven different authors I expected each author to take a different view point character and to stick to one character for the duration. But they exceeded my expectations by not only rotating characters but also by switch characters within chapters. The best part was the story though. Based on the title, one could expect this to be more comical than serious. And while the story does have it's comedic one liners and some eye roll moments, it is a very well thought out story with lots of depth and some powerful character arcs that you just don't find in very many novellas. So in short, Just Dumb Enough is a 105 page novella that reads like a 1005 page novel.

Can you have a coherent story written by several different authors taking turns? The answer is an enthusiastic yes. Seven writers for what was then Marcher Lord Press (now known as Enclave Publishing) took up a challenge from publisher Jeff Gerke and came up with a highly entertaining story. The focus is on a group of five adventurers, and one thing that helps is that the authors wrote from the point of view of different characters, but it still came out seamless. It also helped that it was written tongue in cheek. I've known of this book since its previous incarnation "But Who Would Be Dumb Enough To Try?", available on Kindle only. I was excited when it came out in print. It includes four of my favorite authors - Morgan Busse, Kerry Nietz, John Otte, and Jill Williamson. I highly recommend it.

I really loved this book! It is a fantasy story told by several authors from Enclave Publishing (formerly Marcher Lord Press). They each took a couple of chapters of the book, and despite their various writing styles, the story became a cohesive tale with a touching and thrilling plot. The quest by five different D&D archetypes gave each member a solid story arc, and they were well designed. The book is a short and entertaining read. I highly recommend it for fans for fantasy and adventure.

Just the Right Thing I’m a huge fan of short fiction, and this particular tale was written by a collection of my favorite spec fiction authors. I also love humor. In the vein of The Princess Bride and Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Just Dumb Enough gathers a collection of misfits and sends them off on an impossible quest. Just Dumb Enough is just the right thing if you want a quick and funny read.

This is a fun book, not quite like any other I've read. Standard quest story in many ways, but it has its delightful twists. There's more depth to this book and its characters than I expected. It's certainly not all explored, feels like there could be a lot of spun off stories and prequels, but it's really good. Completely lived up to my hopes. I was very impressed that several authors (each writing a chapter at a time) could pull off such a seamless and well-written story! While humorous and fun to read, there is an underlying message that's quite inspiring.
