Couldn't stomach this I forced myself to make it as far as 45%. I DNF'd after Andy, the oh-so-perfect and sanctimonious heroine, makes a particular remark to Owen. Owen is the hero and the poor slob that loves her. Andy is a harridan. She's made out like she's some saint to be revered - 'abandoned' by her boyfriend following a traumatic event, self-sacrificing, single mother, left all alone to raise her child. Yeah. Whatever. Cry me a river. First, it's a mother's job to raise a child she decides Couldn't stomach this I forced myself to make it as far as 45%. She's made out like she's some saint to be revered - 'abandoned' by her boyfriend following a traumatic event, self-sacrificing, single mother, left all alone to raise her child. Yeah. Whatever. Cry me a river. First, it's a mother's job to raise a child she decides to bring into the world. Lots of us do it alone. Deal with it. Second, if she'd seen what he had that night, she would have believed the same thing he did. End of. She was in no distress when he walked into that room. Also, he was a kid. Somehow, she's placed on a pedestal. But that poor guy returns home after serving his country for 12 years only to be skewered by the. Entire. Town. Hey, he was only out there protecting your small-minded lives at the potential cost of his own, but it's okay to treat him like a leper over something that is none of your business! And he has no clue what is going on. When he finds out and based on what he saw, he's furious and skeptical. What does Saint Andy do? Tells her kid her father doesn't want to meet her! What responsible parent pulls a passive-aggressive move like that before getting to the bottom of WHY Owen was so upset and clearing up the discrepancy? Then she goes one better when the guy sees his kid for the first time and tells him 'Stay away from my daughter.' Um, I'm sorry? Your daughter? His daughter too, lady, and you made NO attempt to inform him of her existence - which might be construed as you keeping a father from his child. I couldn't take any more of this garbage when Andy rips into Owen about parenting and manipulation. Pot, meet kettle. I hated this story. I hated Andy using her kid as a weapon and her martyred/victim shtick and her panic attacks - which made no sense because she has no MEMORY. And WHY was a pregnant high school girl at a party with drinking and drugs in the first place? What was she going to do there and why was it Owen's fault that she was targeted? The plot of this story was just bad. The heroine was a hag, the hero started great but became weak. I hated t The book has multiple viewpoints and bad editing - including the frequent overuse, of commas in a very strange, and inaccurate fashion. Lastly, the book isn't even about this couple, it's about two couples. Andy isn't a strong heroine. Too much was made over what happened to her and Owen was blamed for too much. My respect for him bottomed out when he rolled over and took it instead of asserting his rights and pointing out that she willfully kept him from knowing he had a child. She knew he was Navy. She could have at least tried. Instead of falling under her spell of sainthood, he should have called her on her crap. I didn't care to finish, even to see if she ever had to answer for anything. This is another 'writer' I'll give a pass in the future.

These secret babies’ plot is never done right IMO. And mothers ( I am a mother of 2 so I can say with authority) you are not a Saint, or heroine or some kind of royalty because you’re raising YOUR child. It’s your JOB. I don’t care if the father is never present. Don’t turn motherhoods into something that deserves a prize or an award. My mother raised my sister and I without my father and I never heard her complaining or making a martyr of herself. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... On his return H is fairly mean and nasty but finds himself being ostracized by the entire town; his friends mainly because he walked away and has no contact with them either It was refreshing to read about a teenaged girl who was not a complete brat to her mother. She seemed to be a fairly well adjusted child. There is a possible plot hole; why didn't h inform the H about her pregnancy; but its mentioned that while he had plans to join the navy, no one knows what he did so there are no attempts to track him down; doesn't he exist on social media? He finds out that h was drugged and raped; which he sees but assumes that she is cheating on him. So he is a nematode for not trusting the girl he was in love with but H does do a good job of beating himself over this himself so ..... All in all, this book ticked all the sticking points that normally stick out in second chance secret baby books. H's apology and grovel is fairly lengthy, h takes time to forgive him and her family takes their own time to forgive him, esp. her father and brother. I am taking one star away from the book as the author insisted on bundling in h's younger sister and H's best friend's story's beginning bits; I believe she writes their story later on in this series but h's sister (its hinted that she has her reasons) was an irritating and self-destructive character while the friend was a good guy; their story irritated me and I definitely won't be reading it. So one star taken away from my review.

This was an unplanned reread. I’d read it awhile ago but for some reason it didn’t pop as read. Probably a KU thing. Anyway, I didn’t like it any more this time. The writing style and voice are fine. I like most of the characters, but something doesn’t click.

She was also expecting Andy's baby, and has spent the last thirteen years being the best mother she could to their daughter Jenna. Owen and Andy face the truth and how to make being parents to Jenna as mature adults but the second chance they need is full of difficulties from interfering family, the towns' low opinion of Owen, giving Jenna the support she needs to get to know her Dad and to face the tragedy of their parting and finding a new life together. Forgiving History is a great second chance story with lots of sibling interference and emotional upsets. It is a great story and worth reading how Owen, the Navy hero faces his mistakes.

Imagine her shock when Owen walks in to her family bar, after so much time and so many unanswered questions. This is a book about colossal misunderstandings, life altering choices and heaping regrets, but also about the power of healing and the beauty of forgiveness. The author created a realistic small-town setting, where nosiness and gossip abound but people truly care for and support one another. The Walker siblings were endearing and loveable with their well-meaning interference, and I loved seeing Andy and Owen get their second chance at love. *I reviewed this book freely and voluntarily, having made no commitment to provide a review and receiving no compensation of any kind from any source for this review.

Finding love early on and losing it over a misunderstanding is the plight of Andy and Owen. So sad but a second chance is available 13 years later. Owen has a daughter, Jenna, to meet that he didn't know existed. It is a story of putting pieces together and building a new future as a family and of love restored. They certainly have their share of challenges in the process. This story is beautifully written and it sure does give the reader all the feels. Mixed feelings The story was written well, just a bit too long and drawn out. I didn't care for Owen, I know what he thought that night but he didn't say anything when he open that door NOTHING, to unbelievable.......and Andy she was right to forgive him (you have to forgive in order to be forgiven) but I would not be able to have him in my life in a romantic way.....couldn't do it.

This book had me in tears and laughter. I loved it from start to finish! There are no words for me to describe how much I love Jenni M Rose's ability to convey feelings, none. She does it so masterfully and natural that I had a hard time putting it down for even a minute. Marvelous! If you like second-chance romance and secret babies, this is the one for you! I recommend it wholeheartedly.

3-3.5 stars. I liked the story between Andy and Owen. There was a lot of hurt and heartbreak between them. And once Owen found out what really happened, he was singing a different tune than the initial betrayal that he once thought. He also had to make up for lost time with his daughter. What I wasn't fond of was the multiple POVs in this. To me, it was Andy and Owen's story, so I wasn't too keen on getting such a front row seat to Beth and Logan's relationship since they are obviously going to 3-3.5 stars. It was distracting and unnecessary and could've been pared back to still set up the next book. Also, once Owen decided to make amends and to become involved with Jenna, while I thought he went about it in a charming and sweet way, I am never a fan of untraditional proposals. That took away the ending for me, but I was glad to see Andy find her own happiness.

Promising start to a new series. Jenni M. Rose's Forgiving History started her new series Freehope with a story that takes the reader from heartbreak to healing to HEA. A terrible event tore Andy and Owen apart 13 years earlier. Redemption? Nope. I went into this book with super high hopes. The H was a jackbutt and said evil evil things to her. The author had so much plot to work with- but we saw so very little of it. They never talk about the rape, the court hearings.... nothing. And throwing in huge chunks of side character drama as focal points when they’ll eventually get their own book(s)- that’s a huge turn off for me. Doubtful I’d recommend this book. Many years ago Andy and Owen were in love and due to a misunderstanding Owen left. Now years later Owen is back and finds out he has a daughter and what he believed happened with Andy was wrong. The journey these two go thru to find each other again is a great read. The reason for the misunderstanding is heartbreaking. Strongly recommend this book

Great book! I loved this book! Sometimes a misunderstanding can cause a lot of pain. Andy and Owen are high school sweethearts. When he doubts her love they are separated for 6 years. He shows back up in town and finds Andy hates him. They struggle to become friends again. And there is a surprise for Owen!

Okay read What to say. Had lots going for it and then some nit so much. Liked the storyline although the assault was alluded to took a while for a clear picture of the misunderstanding. Also the relationship of Beth and Logan in amongst this story was confusing. Did not take to Beth at all. Was an okay read but definitely don’t want to read Beth.

Read it straight through I fell completely and totally in love with the story and the characters. My heart wouldn't stop breaking for Andy, yet the way her strength and determination, as well as her fears was displayed was insightful and heartfelt. Lol, I was even mad at Owen for most of the book. Great read! Now I have to finish the series to find out everyone else 's story.

One big misconception Can change your whole life. That's what happens here and instead of trying to figure out the problem, Owen runs. He finds out years later that what he thought happened, wasn't quite as it seemed. I enjoyed these guys getting to know each other again. Once everything was exposed, it made the story much more enjoyable.

Man oh man Man this was a tough one. Oh love was true and real but man misunderstandings and evil people made this book tough to handle. No one should ever go through what Andy did but wow was she strong. And when Owen figures it all out he is the man everyone always thought he was.
