I am always a sucker for second chance romance stories, so naturally, I was already predisposed to enjoying this book. But, the story was just so realistic, making the emotions leap from the page. This is a situation that is all too familiar with young lovers who know deep down they are right for each other, but experience doubts and interference from others. While high school sweethearts don’t often marry, I can attest to young love turning out to be true and lasting love. I guess, without getting into my personal life, this type of story touches me because I’ve seen it happen, up close and personal, in my own family. (Although, I’m glad the couple took a break from each other while attending college, then reunited. I think it helped them realize they wouldn’t truly be content without the other- they really were meant to be- but I won’t embarrass them by naming them in this review. I’m also glad they didn’t wait 13 years!! 😊) The feelings Amy and Derek had for each other are still very much alive, but, they aren’t sure if the other feels the same way or if the same obstacles they faced in the past, would still threaten their relationship. Will they take another chance at love or will history repeat itself? This is a sweet love story! Derek is a handful at first, but boy, is he sexy. I’d give him a second chance, too, if I were Amy!! LOL!! I do hope grumpy Bailey get his own story next! That’d be awesome! If you love second chance love stories, you don’t want to miss this one!! 5 stars

Christine Rimmer's " A Maverick to ( Re) Marry" was a delightful second chance romance. The book is part of the Montana Mavericks series. It features Derek Dalton and Amy Wainwright. However, can the pair heat up without getting burnt, when Amy proposes that they let their attraction follow the natural course of events while she is in Rust Creek. Even though to the rest of the world, Amy wants to pretend she and Derek are just friends. Consequently, none of their cohorts are falling for that song and dance because the sparks these two are sending out are hotter than the Kilauea Volcano but hopefully not as destructive. There were definitely some kinks to work out along the way. I found this book to be sweet and sensual. I loved the addition of past characters who popped up to give the story depth. Christine Rimmer always brings a new twist on an old plot. I would highly recommend this book. I cant wait to read the next edition in the Montana Maverick series.

Derek and Amy are so adorable together!! They are high school sweethearts with a big secret, but in a little town secrets have a way of getting out. I have said that enemies to lovers is a favorite romance trope, but another favorite is a good second chance romance and this book was defiantly a fantastic second chance romance. Derek and Amy were high school sweethearts who married (secretly) for about five days until her father found them and told her she needed to break it off. They were too young, it was all too quick, Amy needed to go to college. There were several reasons why the marriage at that time was not a good idea. Deep down inside I have said that enemies to lovers is a favorite romance trope, but another favorite is a good second chance romance and this book was defiantly a fantastic second chance romance. Derek and Amy were high school sweethearts who married (secretly) for about five days until her father found them and told her she needed to break it off. They were too young, it was all too quick, Amy needed to go to college. There were several reasons why the marriage at that time was not a good idea. Deep down inside both Derek and Amy realized that as well. The two then didn’t speak or see each other for thirteen years. Now Amy is back in town as maid of honor at her best friend’s wedding. The same wedding that Derek is the best man. The two are teamed up together to not only be in the wedding together but to plan the big bachelor and bachelorette party. At first they can’t even really look at each other, but after a great conversation and getting all the issues from their past out in the open, they agree to a no strings attached fling for the few weeks leading up to the wedding. I really enjoyed this story so much. Amy and Derek were a great couple who are wonderful together. Their first marriage just didn’t work because it wasn’t the right time for them. This story was super cute and sweet. I loved how they tried to keep the relationship a secret but in a small town that is never the case. I also enjoyed that the author didn’t drag things along, or keep rehashing the same arguments which I see quiet often in these types of novels. They worked through their issues in the past, but now of course there are other issues. Like what will happen to the relationship when Amy has to leave Montana to go home to Colorado. I did notice that you meet a lot of couples from previous books, and while this is the first in a series, there are many, many other Montana Maverick’s series that come before this one. I don’t feel that you needed to have read the books that came before, but after reading this one and meeting a lot of those characters, I will definitely be picking them up. Received a copy from NetGelley for honest review. I absolutely hate to give negative reviews but if I have to be honest, I struggled to finish this book because I was totally bored. It has the same theme that we have read countless of times of boy & girl fall in love & pregnant. Decide to get married -only to break up soon afterwards because of something or other (in this case, "someone"), Hero becomes a manho and they don't see each other again for 10 or more years (13 in this case). First of, give me a break from all these manwhore, whimpy, asshole Heros! For the love of whoever, what the heck is so attractive - or interesting - about these type of characters that authors keep on writing about? Then there is the long absence. Why is it that they always have to be apart for more then 10 years? What's wrong with a couple of months, a year or two? What's wrong with both being celibate for a change? If they could live that long without each other, then they were never meant to be is IMO.

Very good story of second chances. Back in high school Amy and Derek had been a couple, then secretly married that summer. The marriage ended as quickly as it began, leaving both of them heartbroken before they moved on with their lives. Neither has forgotten the other, though each has coped in different ways. Derek has become something of a flirt, avoiding any hint of commitment. Amy threw herself into school, then her job in Colorado, and has avoided returning to Rust Creek Falls. Derek has become something of a flirt, avoiding any hint of commitment. Amy threw herself into school, then her job in Colorado, and has avoided returning to Rust Creek Falls. Now her best friend's wedding has forced her back. I enjoyed the development of Amy and Derek's relationship. I liked their first meeting. Though both had been dreading it, they behaved like adults since they had to work together for their friends' wedding. Things were still a bit rough at the beginning since both had to come to terms with seeing each other again. They continued to avoid each other until they realized they had to face their pasts. I loved how they opened up and talked honestly about what had happened and their feelings at the time. It also became clear to them that the attraction is still there also. I had to laugh a little at their plan to be friends again, with maybe a little more to it, and explore what was happening - and keep it a secret. They're in Rust Creek Falls, where people are observant and know everyone's business anyway. I loved seeing Amy and Derek find the magic that had been there before. It was a terrific mix of old and new - I especially enjoyed the video game scene, as well as their more adult activities. But as their time grew shorter, some of their old doubts and fears started to creep in. I ached for both of them as those fears kept them from talking to each other about their plans. I wanted to shake Derek for acting on those fears, and I cried for Amy's heartbreak. I loved the support - and the lecture - that she received from her friends, opening her eyes to some things she hadn't thought of. I adored Derek's big moment. He was sweet and vulnerable and finally able to say the words that Amy needed to hear. I also enjoyed the backdrop of Luke and Eva's wedding. It's always fun to revisit couples from earlier books. Even brief mentions of others brings back fond memories of their stories and gives the opportunity for a peek at their continuing happiness.

A Maverick to (Re)Marry is one book that most Christine Rimmer fans will really enjoy. Her use of imagery and figurative language are enchanting, and the words simply flow off the page. In short, readers of A Maverick to (Re)Marry will find themselves in familiar territory, but it’s still territory with a fresh breeze blowing through it. Once in Rush Creek Falls Montana, Amy Wainwright once again encounters flirty cowboy Derek Dolton will their secret past be reveled.

It's been quite some time since I've read a novel by Christine Rimmer, whose work I always enjoyed in the past. I usually love a second chance at love romance trope, but I'm sorry to say that this novel and it's lead characters simply didn't resonate with me, and, for a number of reasons, which I'll elucidate, it was, at best, a 3-star read. I usually love a second chance at love romance trope, but I'm sorry to say that this novel and it's lead characters simply didn't resonate with me, and, for a number of reasons, which I'll elucidate, it was, at best, a 3-star read. First, there's the title, there was absolutely nothing "maverick" about the hero, Derek. He wasn't a bad boy, he was an artisan who made beautiful, custom saddles, and he certainly he didn't fit the dictionary definition of the word as, "an unorthodox or independent-minded person." He was simply a small town guy, whose teenage marriage to and quasi-forced divorce from his perhaps pregnant girlfriend, Amy, ended badly, and although heartbroken, he moved forward and played the field, not getting into any other committed relationship since the divorce 13 years earlier. Then there's Amy, who, after her one-week marriage to her then boyfriend, Derek ended in a divorce, did just as her father wanted. He expected Amy to go to college as she planned, further her education, get a good, high-paying job, and eventual marry someone he felt was more suitable than Derek. He didn't expect her to get pregnant and get married in secret. After he lost the baby or got her period--she's not sure which, dear old dad tracks them down to their seedy motel room and eventually convinces Derek that if he truly loved Amy, he'd let her go, and so he did, breaking his heart and hers too. She nursed her broken heard and did just what daddy wanted, leaving town, getting her degree and a job as a forensic accountant, and only returning once, briefly, in 13 years, meeting no one who ever measured up to her first love, Derek. Now, because she's agreed to be the maid of honor at her best friend's wedding, she's finally back in town for a month, and I think you can already guess who the best man is, can't you? Since Amy and Derek are now in their early thirties, when they finally see each again they can't even look at one another, and their behavior around each other was simply too juvenile to be believed. While tasked with their wedding chores, which include working together to organize the Jack and Jill bachelor/bachelorette party they know they're going to have to get through this somehow. For the first two weeks of Amy's one-month stay in town, they barely communicate, not even by phone, but they eventually give in to their hormones and agree to work together and also agree that for the remaining two weeks of Amy's stay until the wedding, to have a friends-with- secret-benefits relationship. As if none of their friends will notice--really? Of course, time and again, Derek and Amy vacillate between trying to reestablish their previous relationship but neither of them seems to have the first clue that honesty is the best policy. Instead, they have a lot of off-the-page sex, never admit that they still harbor deper feelings for one another, which leads to one misunderstanding after another, and I found myself wanting to yell at both of them, "Would you grow up already!" Until the expected HEA ending, and the final cowardly act by one of the principle players, there are so many extraneous characters introduced, almost the entire wedding guest list, that I couldn't keep track of them all, and, as the were irrelevant to the central plot of this novel, I didn't see the point in introducing them at all. I'm assuming that they were probably featured in earlier novels, but, as it been years since I've read this author, I found the long list of names, complicated relationships and wedding guests both distracting, confusing and totally unnecessary. Finally, there's the 13 years these two characters have been apart. Why so long? If they were as deeply in love as we're led to believe, why not a make phone call, send an email, a text message, smoke signals, or any other means of communication between them in all that time, especially when we're repeatedly reminded that Amy and Derek have never gotten over the love they felt for one another? How is it possible that neither character managed to grow up and mature in all that time? It simply didn't make any sense to this reader, and all it did was highlight the emotional immaturity of these characters. While I certainly didn't love this novel, I didn't hate it either. Ms. Rimmer has written a number of other novels that I've enjoyed in the past and which were far less problematic than this one. If all you're looking for is a short, pleasant, second chance at romance story, you'll probably enjoy this novel more than I did. However, as a reader and reviewer, I tend to look a little deeper into the novels I read and the characters within them, to understand what drives them, and to look for more character development, a plot that is more complicated than just a temporary situation, and main characters who change and grow as the novel progresses, and those are the ingredients that, in my opinion, were sorely missing in this novel. I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.

Christine Rimmer's Harlequin book, A Maverick to (Re)Marry is a second chance romance. Derek Dalton and Amy Wainwright were young high school sweethearts when they got married and divorced. The timing wasn't right for them to have a HEA. Now their friends Luke and Eva are getting married in Rust Creek Falls, Montana and Derek and Amy are in charge of the joint bachelor-bachelorette party the Saturday before the wedding. They haven't seen each other in over a decade. This is a sweet story with li Christine Rimmer's Harlequin book, A Maverick to (Re)Marry is a second chance romance. I love this story! Derek and Amy were high school sweethearts and found a very rare true love at a young age. Unfortunately the timing just wasn't quite right for these two young lovers. Flash forward 13 years and Derek and Amy are thrown together to plan a dual bachelor/bachelorette party for their close friends. These two are destined to be together but doubts arise and they have to work through the past to get the future they want and deserve together.

I love it when someone finds a way to match make. Throw them together and give them no choice. Eva and Luke just cracked me up putting Dalton and Amy back together without knowing they were together before. As a person that has been in love before and lost, I really loved this story. I was surprised that moonshine was not involved in Rust Creek this time. (Yes I have read all the others in this series). Highly recommend this book.

As usual Christine Rimmer has written another awesome book. I am learning that when I pick up a book of hers, that I need to make sure my schedule is clear for a day or two so that I can just sit down and read it. It kills me to have to go about my daily activities knowing that it is waiting on me. I think you will enjoy this book as much as I did. I would recommend it, if you like a great romance.

I couldn't put it down!! This book was so compelling from the first paragraph. Amy tries to deny she ever had any chemistry with Derek but from the first time they're in the same room AGAIN, neither of them can deny it's still there. The perfect mis-matched couple who got the short end of the stick back in high school get a chance to have their happily ever after. RUN don't walk to pick up this AWESOME story!!

Have you've ever been in love in high school and thought it was forever love but your plans got in the way of it, or a family member thought they were doing something for your best, well Amy and Derek thought this. Christine brings me back to the time when I thought all was great in the world and then real life kicks in. Take this trip with Amy and Derek and see if their lives right themselves. Love this book.

I am a sucker for romance! The emotions Christine can illustrate pull you in. You feel their pain, heartache, passion and needs. Derek and Amy are forced to work together on wedding plans as their friends had carefully devised. The past has yet to be resolved. What does the future hold and can they dork together civilly? Now my hubby has some higher standards to live up to! Lol

Amy and Derek were high school sweethearts pulled apart by misguided intentions. Years later they are brought back together for the wedding of their best friends. As they work together planning pre wedding activities they begin to work through the pain and misunderstandings of the past. A journey that leads them back home and back together. A sweetly written second chance love story.

I love second chances. We all do not get it right the first time so second chances are great. Derek and Amy were high school sweethearts. Life and challenges to big for them caused a separation and with a second chance they got to make it right. It was not easy but they did it and work and love win out. Great read by Christine Rimmer.
