Alas, I was crazy excited for a CC story, but this one is really short and mostly sex. The first chapter introduces us to Esav, a newly minted federal judge, and his two friends. They go to new bar that used to be a county courtroom. When he first walks in, Esav sees a painting of himself. The second chapter is a sex scene between Esav and Court. I was confused because Esav was only 25, which seemed way too young to be a judge. It wasn't until chapter 3 that I realized chapter 2 was a flashback to the one night Esav and Court spent together ten years prior. Chapter 3 is more sex in the present and a very tentative HFN. And that's it. Color me disappointed. I love Cardeno's stories! But this one was just so short, with no character or relationship development. I skimmed both sex scenes because I didn't know or care about the MCs at all. I could see this being a great book, but there just wasn't enough here.

***2 Stars*** Ooooh boy, talk about a badly slapped together story! If there's one thing I'm thankful for here, it's that this was free. I was super confused right from the start. First off, the author gives us ZERO indication that we jump into a flashback almost immediately. A flashback with two MCs that we barely know anything about. I sat there scratching my head that Esav is a 25 year old Federal judge, and as someone who works in law, accuracies in this area are a big pet peeve of mine. So I'm sitting there reading, having no idea what the hell is going on and two MCs I know barely anything about are having a casual conversation about a hookup and well, this reader sat confused and annoyed. And then ZOOM, we're in present day and it's a two second conversation (I kid you not...I think it's about a handful of sentences after a 10 year reunion), an awkward sex scene and then I miss you and wanna be with you and you're IT for me. It's like there was ZERO effort made to actually craft a story or to develop the main characters. I've had more emotional investment reading IKEA furniture assembly instructions. If this is your first Cardeno C book, then I'm really sorry. May I direct your attention to Wake Me Up Inside. MUCH BETTER! Final thoughts on this book....

I had higher expectations for this story. It wasn't necessarily bad but it wasn't great either. The biggest problem I had with it was...the confusion. There are 3 chapters. The first and third are in the present. The second is a flashback. BUT! This isn't clear. I was lost. I was irritated. And honestly, disappointed when it was over. Too bad...I typically click with Cardeno's stories. * 2.5 stars* I had higher expectations for this story. It wasn't necessarily bad but it wasn't great either. This really needed to be longer. Not much depth, which is unusual for CC. i would have liked to see more on Court and Esav's current lives and less about the one encounter from the past. A quick bit of fluffy second chance romance with two men who've never been able to get the other out of their mind in the decade since their one and only super hot night of passion, finding each other again. Short and sweet but also extremely HOT. Esav Walters is quite shocked to find a painting of himself, 10 years younger, at a new bar in town his friends dragged him to. He remembers the night he spent with Court Swanson so very clearly. It was amazing to say the least yet they were at a different time in life and a relationship wasn't an option. Though Esav trying following the young artist and his whereabouts through his younger brother (a good friend of Court) at some point the trail ran cold. Short and sweet but also extremely HOT. Though Esav trying following the young artist and his whereabouts through his younger brother (a good friend of Court) at some point the trail ran cold. Yet Court is now HERE in Denver (not back in New York where they grew up) so it's obvious the first thing to do is re-visit their previous encounter.. Yet now older, mature, knowing what they want from life and actually living in the same city they can have so much more than just another one night together - all Court has to do is ask - Esav would always deliver. I enjoyed this one though it was more about the attraction and sex and less about THEM and who they are. I guess since they knew each other for years before I can believe it can work but I wish we got A BIT more. More Reviews HERE

This really could’ve been longer. It’s a great second chances story that I would absolutely love to have sunk my teeth into. What we get is nice, mostly sex, but you still get the feeling that these two have the capability for a really strong connection. Would’ve loved more, but what we get is ok.

Very short but very sweet story of two young men who plant a seed for love in their early twenties and are ready to nurture it when they meet again years later. Instafreebie from the author. Thanks for the terrific story!

Dammit. This story frustrated me - and probably not for the reasons that you might expect. I was frustrated because there was so much potential here for an amazing full length novel and it felt squandered in this brief a format. There was just something about these characters, their history with one another, their disparate professions, the story's setting, its premise, and the overall energetic vibe that I got from the whole thing that I instantly connected with. I was absolutely gooey over Court's stumbling ways and endearing full body blushes. I dug Esav's clear ambition and bluntness and the way that these traits manifested themselves when he was face to face with Court. And I wanted more. I wanted the WHOLE. DAMN. STORY. But what I got was 30 pages of cuteness and sex that left me wanting. Can I appeal to CC's better angels and ask for a second, largely expanded edition?!

There could have been a good story here but this is way too short. A snippet, really. I love this author, but CC has not been writing lately. Heavy sigh.

30 pages, 3 chapters for a quick second chance read. This had so much potential and I just wanted more of everything - characters, background story, the unrequited love of a decade - it was hinted at, but sadly not delivered. An easy read.

Disappointing. The dynamic didn't when for me at all and I just didn't buy the strong feelings they supposedly had for each other after one night and then not speaking for ten years. Not so much a story of second chances as it is a reunion to a relationship put on pause. Esav and Court had an amazing night together years back, but then they both went separate ways to get their careers going. At that time neither could be together, so they left amicably. Esav was a newly minted lawyer and would be spending unforgivable hours at the office. Court was an artist in school, still working towards his degree and hoping for a break in his art. It is simply a story of love and heat of two men reunited, still feeling what they once did, and coming together again.

Nope! Didn’t work for me at all. Esav seems like a stodgy old man and Court doesn’t even seem twenty when he’s first introduced. Not much has changed when they meet again ten years later. Might have actually added some substance to the story if one actually wasn’t single. Zero substance, zero character development and a judge pairing up with someone named Court. Ugh!

This is a short, fun read about second chances brought on by an unexpected reunion of two men who had a superhot one-night stand ten years earlier. Esav is a driven man who focused on his career to the exclusion of everything else for many years, but when he finds out that Court has moved to his city, he is determined to find him. They reconnect immediately and watching them decide to “go for it” for real this time was lots of fun. I really enjoyed this short story. It's great when you reconnect with the one person from your past that could make all the difference in your life. There was a lot of chemistry and the history between the characters was portrayed so well. I really enjoyed this short story. Oh yes. I love stories where a crush is fulfilled. I really loved the moment when Esav saw himself in the painting. Imagine what a surreal moment that would be. I liked it even more that Court and Esav were able to reconnect and pursue a relationship.

This author started it all for me. The author wasn't the first M/M book I read but it was their series that solidified it for me. So yeah... this author's works have a soft spot for me.
