The cuteness continues! This second volume delves further into the backstory of both "a man" and "his cat" in the cutest, most heart-warming way possible and shows how quickly a cat can fill a lonely void left by someone else.

A really sweet sequel to the first book, it’s not as sad but still has some tender hearted moments. Kanda and Fukumaru have adjusted to life together and love their days and each other. Very touching.

This just makes my heart so happy. I read it slowly just so I could savor it. Fukumaru has egg eyes when he cries.

You've seen this one on Tumblr too. A lonely cat despairs of ever being adopted when a lonely widower decides to adopt him. Sheer heartwrenching adorableness ensues. It's episodic like The Way of the Househusband. There are a few things that carry over from comic to comic, but it's mostly just Fukumaru (the cat) and his new daddy getting used to each other. Cat owners will find some Extremely Relatable moments in these pages, including the woes of litter-kicking and sharing a bed with a cat. As You've seen this one on Tumblr too. Cat owners will find some Extremely Relatable moments in these pages, including the woes of litter-kicking and sharing a bed with a cat. As I mentioned, it's super adorable and super painful at times too. Both Fukumaru and the Man (who has a name, but I've forgotten it) are very, deeply lonely, and both of them have their own issues that they're working through, but they've found a friend in each other, and the whole comic is on an upward trajectory. The art is very cute, and personally, I think Fukumaru is adorable as hell, but then, I'm a cat person. Highly recommended. Though maybe not if you've just lost a loved one.

The further adventures of Fukumaru and Mr. Kanda. His dog-loving friend Kobayashi steals some scenes though 😜 We see a bit more of Kanda's past here as well as his transition to a full blown cat daddy. Gorgeous, cute artwork. Fukumaru's expressions are priceless!!! 😍

Cute and refreshing as always. I like that it shows some more serious topics, but when juxtaposed with Fukumaru, it takes the sting away.

Having won hearts and topped charts in Japan, this hotly anticipated series about an older gentleman and his unique, adorable cat is available in English for the first time! Pros - The story is still sweet (bordering on saccharine), and animal lovers are sure to resonate with this work - Some of the side characters (e.g. the MC's coworker) are given run-time to develop. (view spoiler)[Even the MC's now-deceased wife makes an appearance via flashback, if somewhat briefly. (hide spoiler)] I appreciate the work reaching for a broader story, as it adds greater depth and intrigue. Cons - Fukumaru's "cat speech," is still grating, but it seemed less common in this volume - The slow-drip of plot and characterization (beyond "MC loves his cat in myriad adorable ways") may be annoying for some. If you come into this work expecting a fast-paced story you will be disappointed. - (nit-pick) The chapters can feel a bit disjointed at times, like when it jumps from a chapter about the MC to a chapter about the childhood of one of his coworkers. Conclusion If you liked A Man and His Cat, Vol. 1, this book will likely be very much up your alley. The "larger" narrative may come only in fits and starts, but there's more than enough cuteness to go around.

From the back of the book- Now that Fukumaru and Mr. Kanga have found each other, every new day brings with it a series of surprises and delights. As the pair navigate their new life together, time, which had frozen for Mr. Kanda, following a personal tragedy, gradually begins to move again… Review- Another cute volume in a very sweet series. Just like volume 1, this is a series of vignettes following the two main characters through their everyday life together, with getting some more past from Kanda. We see that his wife really liked cats and that they were going to get one right before she died and that Kanda was sort of just existing for a long time after her death until he seeing Fukumaru and decided to take him home. This is a very sweet series that is fantastic considering how stressful the world is right now, so if you're looking for a pick-me-up I would recommend reading this series. I give this volume of Five out of Five Stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this mango with my own money.

This volume wasn't as enjoyable as the first, although I do think it's cute that Kanda and his boyfriends are still getting on well. The main issue I had was the "idol" comic, where Kanda's coworkers start treating him distantly because they think he has a girlfriend. Because they want to "preserve" their image of him. Which somehow having a girlfriend would tarnish. The canonically noted - by his coworkers! - sad widower. Would have his image tarnished among his coworkers. By getting a girlfriend, who is seemingly what is making him happy. This is such a stupid plot I don't even have words to describe how absurdly stupid it is. This is a big thing in Jpop and Kpop idol culture, and it's awful there, and it's... really cringe here. Otherwise it's an okay volume. Probably won't be getting volume 3, though.

(5 Stars) Okay this series is so adorable, I enjoyed this instalment even more than the first one. The story and the characters are just so pure and lovable. I like that we get to see more of Kanda & Fukumaru’s daily life and the interactions between them are just so sweet. I’m interested to find out about what happened with Kanda’s family but maybe we’ll get to see more of that in later volumes. Again really enjoyed the artwork, it truly does fit so well with the story. Definitely will be continuing with this series.

An adorable continuation about an ugly cat and the man who loves him. Some of the stories are just cute little snippets that make you love the characters even more. Some give you back story on the characters (which also makes you fall in love with them). All in all if you are looking for some feel good reading during these otherwise insufferable times, read this series. It will definitely take your mind off of life for a bit.

So far this series is just so sweet and lovely. For the most part the chapters are not connected other than being in order chronologically, but there is no over-arching storyline for the series. Still that is almost what makes it great. I love Fukumaru and Mr. Kanda and find their relationship very sweet. I like that through reading we also learn more about Mr. Kanda's past too. Very enjoyable volume/series so far.

I love this series so much! It is such a beautiful feel-good story. The learning experiences Kanda and Fukumaru go through are so adorable, and I really feel that Umi Sakurai has captured the spirit of a cat perfectly.

The piano mug has me like don’t cry don’t cry don’t cryyyyyy 😭 What a gorgeous volume. The coloured front and back pages were stunning. The depth of emotion depicted in a few words, a few panels... it catches me off guard every time. I laugh, I want to cry. I love it!

I laughed out loud at points and I got teary-eyed at other times. This is such a wonderful manga about how meaningful a pet and their person can be to each other. Just like the first volume, I felt better about life after reading this.

*What is not to love about an older man finally getting the pet cat his recently-passed wife always wanted?* I love each little chapter, from both the man and his cat's perspectives. Fukumaru is *top cat* and his owner is *top tier cat owner*. A really nice down-to-earth series that I am loving.

Sometimes a family is a grieving, emotionally distant widower opening up to his traumatized cat, the widower's best friend who loves dogs and is learning to accept the cat, and the widower's co-workers who are all thirsting for him.

  22. 5 out of 5

    Shannon (That's So Poe)

Even better than the first volume! This one maintains the sweetness of the relationship between the cat and the older man, but adds in some extra backstory that deepens the weight of the story. Still a little overly cutesy at times, but a very enjoyable read.

This series is 50% Fukumaru thinking about how much he loves the man + 50% the man thinking about how much he loves Fukumaru which equals me ugly-crying for 30 minutes straight while sobbing out things like, "The love of animals is so special!"
