A skimmer...no chemistry between the characters. Very little character development. Too stupid to believe situations. Sarah has just seen her mother murdered and thinks the police won't do anything about it. She runs, taking her half-siblings with her. She is rescued by Brad Logan who promptly brings her home to stay with his family (his brother, a pregnant sister in law and nephew). He knows she is running and that danger may follow, so he puts the pregnant girl and a child at risk?? This one co A skimmer...no chemistry between the characters. Very little character development. I received an ARC for this book. Brad and his brothers come home, after their parents death, to discover that they have been left the ranch but must reside there for one year. As time passes, he learns to love the child and will go to any lengths to keep her safe. Lacey has been in love with Brad for years but rejects his proposal of marriage to keep the child safe. Will he finally admit to his feelings for Lacey? Will they be able to keep the child safe? I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to everyone.

This story is about a young woman who became the parent of her young step sister and brother when she witnessed her drunken stepfather killed there mother. I liked the story, but found that the writing seemed a little stilted. A quick OK read.

This reads like a 12th grader's fan fiction (but with better grammar). The writing is juvenile, as is the dialogue which is also incredibly stilted. I swear I've seen over exaggerated robot movies that have felt more human than these characters. Half the time it didn't appear as though the characters were even in the same conversation. Especially the two primary characters, Brad and Sarah. She made up entire conversations between the two as reasons why he wouldn't be interested in her, meanwhile This reads like a 12th grader's fan fiction (but with better grammar). Half the time it didn't appear as though the characters were even in the same conversation. Especially the two primary characters, Brad and Sarah. She made up entire conversations between the two as reasons why he wouldn't be interested in her, meanwhile all he did was show her physically and verbally that he wanted to be with her ("Why do you think I've been kissing you?" "Because I'm the hired help." What? Idiot). (At the beginning of the book he points out it will be difficult to raise two kids alone, and she spends the rest of the book claiming that with this statement he made it very clear that he wants absolutely nothing to do with her and isn't even attracted to her. None of his actions or words swayed her from this position.) She's 24 and the nine-year-old character was more intelligent. No matter what anyone said to her she thought and maintained the opposite until everyone in the room practically had to yell it at her (though that didn't always cut it either). There was no chemistry between Brad and Sarah and really no evolution in their relationship until suddenly he's asking her to marry him in the last few pages. The entire premise of the book was nonsensical and it basically jumped from unlikely situation to even more unlikely situation in a very stiff and disjointed way as if to kill time until we could get to the point. It truly felt like reading an outline. It's not like I have great expectations for this type of Harlequin book, but even still this was frustrating.

I think this is one of the most poorly written books I've read thus far. There is too much diaglogue and VERY LITTLE descriptive recounts. So much more could have been done to explain some of the history of Denver that is included in the story. It was dull, predictable and I'm very happy I had a 25% discount to buy the eBook. But even at less than $3, it was a waste. I think this is one of the most poorly written books I've read thus far. There is too much diaglogue and VERY LITTLE descriptive recounts. Sarah did a great job with the Logan family and her own family and so she deserved the happiness she got.
