Two classics by Robert Heinlein and Robert Bloch, plus a collection of also rans. Robert A. A good story. William C. Boyd - Will Time Wait? - 3 stars - An attempt to explain the relativistic effect of velocity on time. R. M. McKenna - Casey Agonistes - 3 stars - Life in a TB ward. I'm not really sure what the author was trying to say. John Collier - A Word to the Wise - 3 stars - All I need to make it in the world is a talking cat, so I'll teach my cat to talk by feeding it parrots. It's a fun story, but there's not much to it. Jane Roberts - A Demon at Devotions - 3 stars - Aliens contact an obviously supressed and enslaved minority group to help them take over the world. Which group is that? The nuns. An interesting idea. Willard Marsh - Poet in Residence - 3 stars - A very rich, very old man buys the body of a very poor young man so that their minds can be swapped and the rich man can be young again. Things don't quite work out the way the rich man hoped they would. Wright Morris - Last Call - 4 stars - An unusual alien meets a man on earth. Robert Bloch - That Hellbound Train - 5 stars - Robert Bloch's wonderful story of a man making a deal with the devil which would allow him to remain forever at one point in his life when he is happiest. He surprises the devil with the time that he chooses.

What starts off as cliche and predictable takes some interesting turns at least before returning back to cliche and predictable and then a solid twist. Diverting read.

It's hard for me to read things like this without the context of the body of work that exists after it. It's still a great story.
