Fanny Finch knows how to write beautiful “clean and sweet” Regency Period romantic tales that are well plotted, well written and loads of fun. That was certainly the case with her latest, An Earl for Her Hopeless Heart. This is loads of pure romantic fun. I simply adored its leads, Hestia and Leander, and loved watching as they developed their relationship over the course of the pages despite all odds against it. The cast of supporting characters were also simply superb. What more I could one ask for? But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - this book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend.

Nice plot twists, sweet romance, strong heroine, and sensitive, intelligent, heroic male lead. The dialogue was rather stiff but the second half of the book is much better than the first half.

This is about thwarted love because of strict societal rules and regulations. The main female character is Lady Hestia. She is the daughter of the Earl of Nottingham. She is in her early twenties with two older sisters and one younger sister. She is steadfast in what she believes and is fierce to defend it. She has been taught to have patience and exercises that trait as often as necessary. She is kind, loving and independent. Because of her family's poor financial situation, she decides to take her fate into her own hands. She becomes a companion for the daughter of a Viscount. When Hestia accompanies her charge to a party, she accidentally bumps into Lord Leander Price, son of the Earl of Coventry and thus begins the trials and tribulations of their attraction to each other. Leander is the main male character and is a good looking, amiable, understands the rules of society and strives to earn the respect of his father. He is a dutiful son and never wishes to disappoint his parents. However, he is against his father's orders to marry him to a rich merchant's daughter to gain more wealth. He tries and tries to get his father to understand that he wishes to marry for love. His father's position is that love will grow after the wedding. The woman his father has chosen for him does not impress him, not one little bit. He feels there are so many disagreeable attributes to this woman, that he cannot in good conscience attach himself to her. When he meets Hestia, his whole world opens up like a blooming rose. Full of life, strength, beauty and integrity. At the present time Hestia is a companion and according to society she is not to be considered available. None of that matters to Leander. This is the beginning of the most difficult time for Hestia and Leander. It's a wonderful story of patience, grace, sensitivity, romance and love. There are mistakes along the way that compound their problems they face. But their faith in God puts them on a steadfast footing. I did also read the extended epilogue but has many unanswered questions about Leander's parents. I kind of have an idea that Leander's parents would vehemently discourage him from pursuing Hestia. After his mother's betrayal, I wanted to read about what happened between the three of them. Also, in the extended epilogue, Leander's parents die. I just wonder what happened. It appeared that the Earl of Coventry and his wife died at the same time. Anyway, other than that, I found the book extremely enjoyable and I do recommend it.

After her first season, during which she did not find a suitable mate, she is now a companion to Lady Eugenia, a young lady having her first season. Eugenia’s mother, Vicountess of Culross, has had a serious illness and prolonged recovery, and is not yet able to accompany her daughter out in society. This is now Lady Hestia’s role. At an event early in the season, both ladies meet gentlemen with whom they find an initial attachment. Unfortunately for Hestia, her young man, Lord Leander Prince, son of the Earl of Coventry, has a father intent upon swelling his coffers with the dowery of a businessman’s daughter, despite the fact that Leander has zero feelings for her. Drusilla, the young lady with the dowery, has not been brought up learning social graces, and it has fallen to Leander to be her instructor. Despite his best efforts, Druscilla has not applied any of what she has been taught, and continues to bring embarrassement to herself and to Leander. Once Leander meets Hestia, falls in love with her, he begins his campaign to convince his father a marriage with Druscilla will not be successful, but runs into the stone wall that is his father. Will Leander be able overcome his parent’s objections, yet avoid crushing Druscilla who seems satisfied with hanging onto this unwilling young man? Will Hestia have faith in Leander’s love and commitment to her, while he has yet to severe ties to Druscilla? And what of Lady Eugenia, will she also find a responsive heart in the man she finds suitable? A heart-tugging story that is appropriate for all ages.

Her father is a decent man; he’s rich, and a good man of business. Per the Earl, love is not a consideration for an heir of an Earl; bringing wealth into the family is. Sometimes a parent makes unfortunate decisions and bad investments. Lady Hestia’s father, the Earl of Nottingham, has lowered the family’s status in society by his poor investments and bad decisions. Lady Hestia has three sisters, and they will have a very small dowry. Unlike her sisters she does not want to depend on finding a husband to save her so she becomes a paid companion to Lady Eugenia. It is a fortunate position because Lady Eugenia is a kind, gentle young lady who Hestia lives very much; in fact they are friends. Lord Price find Miss Drusilla loud, overly animated, has poor taste in clothing style, is embarrassing - just not someone he would want to spend his life with. But there may be more there than is self-evident since she has been raised to be more than a merchant’s wife. We have: Lord Price whose father is pushing for an arranged marriage; Miss Drusilla also being pushed into an arranged marriage – that may or may not be something she desires; Lady Hestia has taken a paid companion position to earn enough to re-enter society or to at least be able live comfortably; Lady Eugenia, a young lady in her first season, looking for a husband. Also we have the other actors who add drama and substance to the story.

I have read several of this author’s books in the past and I believe this is one of her best stories so far. At least, this book is my favorite so far. The plot was refreshing and new and different from anything I have read before. Her characters were all charming and likeable. The author did a great job immersing the reader in the Regency Period in all its glory. This story was definitely a clean romance and had no violence to speak of - and so would be a pleasure to read for everyone. The author did a great job immersing the reader in the Regency Period in all its glory. This story was definitely a clean romance and had no violence to speak of - and so would be a pleasure to read for everyone. The author managed to create a delightful sense of romance in the story itself. I really felt the romantic connection between Lady Hestia and Lord Price. The story did start off a bit slowly but gained momentum by the middle of the story and I really enjoyed how everything came together at the end. My only critique, and I have made this same critique for this author’s previous books, is that I do sometimes feel that this author is too repetitive with some of the ideas and the thoughts of the characters throughout her books. It’s almost as if the characters become stuck in repeat mode for chapters at a time, which slows down the actual pace of the story. Unfortunately, this book was no different and that is the reason I could only give it 4 stars. The story came dangerously close to being boring and tiresome at certain points in the story because of this constant repetition. An example is the reason for Hestia taking employment - we hear about it many (too many) different times throughout the book - as a reader, I get it - you only have to tell me once or maybe twice - but not over and over again. However, having said all that, the story itself is an enjoyable and pleasurable read.

An Earl for Her Hopeless Heart is the best I've read of the books by Fanny Finch. Lady Hestia is the daughter of the Earl of Nottingham who is slowly but surely losing all the family's money through both lack of business sense and reckless gambling. Hestia doesn't want the end to arrive without a plan and some money of her own, hence her employment. She enjoys her friendship with Lady Eugenia and although no one treats her as an employee, she feels her fall of stature keenly. At Lord Faulkner's ball, where she's supposed to be scouting potential mates for Eugenia, Hestia bumps (literally) into a handsome young, man, Lord Leander Price, son of the Earl of Coventry. They are immediately taken with one another; the flue in the ointment being Lord Price's possible betrothal to Drusilla Sirey, the very obnoxious daughter of a very rich American. Leader's father is anxious for him to make this match, no matter how opposed Leander is to it. Where will this all go? This is actually Finch's best book to date. There is far less wasted verbiage and far fewer historical faux pas, although the use of the word bachelorette is not common until 1935. Her characters are good and the plot is decent. The lenght of the book is about right and all in all, it was a pleasant read. I recommend it. I received a free ARC of An Earl for Her Hopeless Heart in exchange for a fair and honest review.

To me, love conquers all in this book. I know that in the past there were arranged marriages, but what does one do when they fall in love with another?  They weren't even officially courting.  It was an uphill battle for both characters trying to deal with the obstacles put before them, especially the male character.  This book is very well put together with all the characters in this story.  That is when you know a book has been well written.  It holds your attention from beginning to end.  Kudo To me, love conquers all in this book. There was a lot more interaction with Hestia and Eugenia. I felt more of the connection of their friendship. Am I the only one that caught the change in Hestia's father? He was painted out to be such a villain in the beginning. He even went as far to demand for Hestia's money to help pay for her sister's clothing. But once Leander was openly showing his interest he was more interested in her well being. Also in the extended epilogue their almost two year old was JUST taking his first independent There was a lot more interaction with Hestia and Eugenia. I enjoyed this book, especially the chemistry between Lady Hestia and Lord Leander from the first time they met! The friendship between Lady Hestia and her employer Lady Eugenia was heartwarming. I didn't quite understand the relationship between Hestia and her father--at first it seemed he was a selfish, wasteful, uncaring father and then he was caring and protective--but I thoroughly enjoyed the story which I believe was 1 of Ms. Finch's best books thus far! I highly recommend! I enjoyed this book, especially the chemistry between Lady Hestia and Lord Leander from the first time they met! I liked the fact that Hestia was a woman willing to make her own way in life, she realized that sometimes you've gotta take risks. It was nice to watch the friendship between Hestia and Lady Eugenia grow from companion to best friend. Lord Leander Price was a charming character, just when you thought he might put his own happiness aside to do what was expected of him by his parents, he showed that at times you've gotta just follow your heart. Was a very lovely story although it felt a bit shallow. Hestia and Lord Price fall in love almost immediately although there was but one small conversation. The story never showed them getting to know each other anymore until getting engaged and no character growth was really achieved. Was still a good romance with a happy ending and very well written.

Love conquers all A lady has become a companion to a friend due to a poor family situation. A lord is being forced to marry another. Will they be able to overcome the obstacles in their way to marry for love? This is a clean, easy to read story.

A Good Story Leander was a man determined to marry for love even though his parents were determined he married for money. Hestia was a companion to a lady, definitely not a woman of financial means. How these two meet and the obstacles they overcome is very inspirational.

A romance book with more than one story to view. It has a main plot but there are side spurs to keep it flowing with a broader picture. You will enjoy the book. Kay Heath Heath
