Britches Get Stitches (Music City Rollers #2) by Elicia Hyder Narrated by: Brittany Pressley This was a fun read/listen! Not my normal read, no shifters or blood suckers in it unless you count an ex-husband! I fell into the world and enjoyed myself. I grieved, smiled, and found myself not missing shifters or vampires at all! The narrator was so good! She really made the feelings come out!

I have really enjoyed this series. I now want to join a roller derby team. You can read this as a stand alone, but it was nice having some background on the team. You meet Grace in the first book. You know that she's going through a divorce. I really wanted to punch her ex-husband. This is just one of the many emotions that I felt when reading this book. I laughed. I cried. I desperately want another book in this series!!!! I have really enjoyed this series. I now want to join a roller derby team. Let me just tell you now, even if derby isn’t your thing....you will love this book. The family of the team, the ex husband being a pain in the butt, the hot cop as a potential new playground! I LOL in several spots and you will too! Come meet this amazing group of friends as they roll towards their futures!

I want to sign up for the Music City Rollers! I fell in love with Grace, Jason and the a$$ kicking girls in the derby even more. I seriously couldn’t put this book down. I was laughing and crying along with Grace the whole way through. Can’t wait to see which roller girl is next to find love!

This book continues with roller derby theme of friendships and finding strength within yourself. There is humor, grief, anger and revenge. There is also a lot of drama that Jason, ex husband's best friend and Grace's new love, finds hard to deal with and breaks them up a few times. I also enjoyed secondary character Sylvia, who actually helps Grace, unknowingly, make life changes. Great humor, good narrator. Fresh off the heels of a contentious divorce, Grace Evans is eager to hip-check her way to moving on. While Grace’s mischievous machinations land her in hot water with the law and her budding relationship with Sergeant Jason Bradley, work drama follows her like Peter Pan’s shadow. She’s a 6 ft 2 hot mess, but you’ll love her anyway. (I was given this Advance Reader Copy (ARC) in exchange for an honest review. Plus, spoiler-free.) My favorite fictional roller girls are back; this time we follow Grace aka Britches Get Stitches, the owner and head seamstress of a children’s boutique who is under pressure to make ends meet and stay afloat in her personal life. Although my total opposite, Grace is a very likable character! She’s a sassy, fierce, and strong independent woman who clearly knows that she’d rather have a man stand beside her than in front of behind. I love her quick wit at work and fast feet at the flat track. Britches Get Stitches had good pacing, hilarious banter between the characters, and a nice blend of Grace’s work life and hobbies. One of the many reasons I love Elicia’s books is because the relationships and conversations between characters always feel authentic. This novel can be read as a stand-alone, but I definitely encourage you to read Lights Out Lucy first to get to know all the derby girls. 🍉🍊🍍 Hero rating: 4.7 stars Heroine rating: 4.3 stars Writing mechanics (literary elements/devices usage included): 4.7 stars Plot rating: 4.2 stars Dialogue rating: 4.6 stars Storytelling rating: 4.5 stars Story ending rating: 4.8 stars Sexual tension rating: 4.6 stars Sex scenes rating: N/A Sex scenes frequency: 3 stars (not good nor bad, just occurrence rating) ********************************************** Overall rating: 4.5 stars Would I recommend this book: Yes. This is such a sweet, romantic, funny, easy book to read. The characters are so enjoyable and the story line flows so satisfyingly. A good book to relax with after, before or during a busy day/week/month/life I choked up with a few tears of sadness and joy in more than one area of the book, and when that wasn't happening I was chortling a little louder than normal over whatever antics were being carried out. Grace Evans is a seamstress by day and a badass roller derby girl by night. She just moved out of the house that her cheating ex-husband, Clay got in the divorce, along with her dog, Bodhi. (I cried.) Her inventive way of getting back at her ex had me laughing out loud, but comes back to bite her later on. Grace decides to dognap Bodhi the night she is taking the last of her things from the house. The next day she is visited by her ex’s best friend, and one of Nashville’s finest, police officer Jason “eye-candy” Bradley. As a favor to Clay and to keep Grace from going to jail he asks Grace to return the dog. Jason had been a friend of the former couple since their college days. He’s also been asked by Clay to dog sit from time to time and offers Grace the chance to see Bodhi when he does. It’s an offer she can’t refuse. Jason is one of the good guys. Grace is trying to grow her business, Sparkled Pink, a high end couture children’s boutique. She has an amazing intern named Kiara working in her store and a customer from hell, Mrs. Sinclair, who is her main customer. These two turn into my favorite characters. As Grace deals with the trauma of the divorce she tries to figure out if a relationship with Jason is a good idea. Supporting characters are Grace’s parents, brother and nieces, Jason’s mom, and the members of the Music City Rollers. This was another awesome read by Elicia Hyder. It had me laughing and crying. I love books that do that for me. It’s written in first person. I kind of wish that we could have seen some of Jason’s POV as well. The phone texting scenes kind of filled in for the lack of his POV. The characters are so well developed. The writing and grammar are excellent. Being a follower of Ms. Hyder on Facebook I see little bits of her personal self infused in this book. (Like any good author does.) Cheese grits anyone? The way she mentioned my home state, Wisconsin made me giggle. This is a book that I would definitely let my teenage granddaughter read, the bedroom scenes are not graphic. It’s entertaining for a romance reader of any age. I look forward to reading more about Grace and Jason in the Music City Rollers series to know where their new relationship takes them. Only 4 stars because I was a little disappointed by the ending.

Britches Get Stitches is the second of Elicia Hyder’s gloriously fun Music City Rollers books I’ve read. The title of each is the name used by its lead character on their team in Nashville’s roller derby team, Music City Rollers. The author, who actually was a roller derby player, really does a fantastic job of putting her characters into the middle of this wildly crazy sport. Enough that if I wasn’t now medically barred from contact sports and other equally fun things I’d seriously want to find a team to join. As such it’s actually one of the best sports novel series I’ve read. But wait, there’s more! Yes indeedy as each of these books are also really wonderful romance tales. That’s certainly the case here with the story of Grace “Britches Get Stitches” Evans, emotionally damaged thanks to her cheating ex, and swoon-worthy police officer Jason Bradley. These characters - and the cast in general - are superbly crafted and genuine (with special kudos for Sylvia, a fantastic layered character if ever there was one). The plot is wonderfully developed as is its several subplots (Grace and Sylvia’s relationship and Grace’s business, the “B-Cup Tournament”, Jasons’ relationship with Grace’s ex, etc.). Total fun is guaranteed. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.

Fun Ride around the Track I really like this series. Lights Out Lucy was a great introduction to the characters and the sport of Roller Derby. Characters follow from book to book, so it’s recommended to read Lights Out Lucy first. There is an issue with infertility and it does thread throughout her character, for those that could use the warning. On the surface, the book is a romance, and I really wanted Grace and Jake to work out. He’s a nice guy, she’s a girl pushed to the edge, and you know they can be what the other needs. when you dig deeper into the book, as with the previous book, it’s about making choices, about the characters finding their strengths, exploring them and becoming the best versions of themselves they can be. But what impresses me so much about these two books is that while there is a romance, so much of the books are about finding your friends and family. There’s so much love for female friendship, and the bonds that women make amongst each other, it just makes me happy. For that reason alone, I’ll recommend these books ever day to anyone that asks.

Elicia Hyder has done it again - written a book that I couldn’t put down! I laughed (a lot), I cried, and I reminisced... not about my days playing roller derby (because the closest I got to that was wiping out on my rollerblades, ouch!) but about the days of dating, dealing with heartbreak by being badass and staying focused on all the good in my life, and being open to new love after that heartbreak. Another thing that I greatly appreciate about this series is that it focuses on women who enjoy having men in their life, but don’t need the men for their life to be complete. These ladies are true to themselves and their goals or at least learning to be. Honestly, the romance is there but not in your face so if you aren’t all about romances you’d probably still enjoy this one - you will definitely laugh! This book can be read as a stand-alone, but I’d strongly suggest reading Lights Out Lucy first as it provides more in-depth knowledge of roller derby and gives you a deeper appreciation for the sport and the women playing it - in the book and in the real world. Oh, and also, the narrator for the audible version is amazing once you stop thinking of her as Sloan from the Soul Summoner series! Read this book (and all other EH books) and join Hydernation :).

Another amazing Elicia Hyder read!! This one was tough for me to get engrossed in because I was used to hearing things from Lucy's perspective, and Lucy's voice. Fantastic! This is a very entertaining story! I love how the roller derby sport supports and encourages young girls to be athletic and empowered. Who knew roller derby was such a popular sport? Love Grace Her story was heartbreaking 💔 she handles it with humor. She is brave and a force to be reckoned with, between her and her friends anything is possible. Not to mention her completely complicated relationship starting to blossom. I laughed so hard that my husband was curious about what I was reading. Then I would cry 😭 he asked if I was still reading the same book? This book is a beautiful rollercoaster ride

This is the second book in the Lights Out Lucy series, although they could be read as standalones if you wanted. If you love strong, badass women these Minutes books are for you. I love this series! It is a unique concept, while the story somewhat continues, there is a new couple and happy ending. I am not a fan of crying, which I did do in this one. And I really, really wanted to punch her ex-husband! He was self-centered, which came across the page perfectly! A sign of a very good writer is one who makes you feel emotion, well done!

I am loving the Music City Rollers series! Britches Get Stitches was such an easy and fun read, yet packed a punch with so many emotional moments. It's a love story, personal growth story, and roller derby story all mixed into one! I like how we still get to keep up with Lucy and the gang from the first book "Lights Out Lucy". Looking forward to the next installment of the series! I am loving the Music City Rollers series! Britches Gets Stiches was such a great story and fun to read. While this was the 2nd book in a series, I had absolutely no issues reading as a stand-alone. Lots of laughs and very heartwarming. I'm newer to Elicia Hyder and haven't been disappointed yet. And with such great characters, I am definitely going to be picking up the first novel, Lights Out Lucy!!
