Instagram || Twitter || Facebook || Amazon || Pinterest I don't think I've been this excited about receiving an ARC in a while. LAUGHING WITH OBAMA consists of many quotes taken from Obama's speeches, paired with heartwarming pictures of him laughing, smiling, joking around, and just in general being Classic Obama (i.e. Cool Dad, level 80). Reading LAUGHING WITH OBAMA was bittersweet because Barack Obama was such a lovely, decent human being, and it's just heart-breaking to compare him to the sorry excuse of a leader we have now. I tried not to think about that too much while reading, though, and just tried to focus on the photographs instead, which were lovely. I actually just read another Obama-themed coffee table book recently (I'm not a stalker, I swear), which was called OBAMA: AN INTIMATE PORTRAIT. That book was published by the official White House Photographer, although it served a similar purpose: to show what a great man he was. LAUGHING WITH OBAMA definitely focuses on his more light-hearted side. He comes across as so natural and relaxed, no matter who he's with. I think his ability to relate to people was one of his strong points, and I honestly believe with all my heart that for a politician, he was as genuine as it's possible to be and that his heart was in the right place. The pictures of him with his family and especially his wife were so touching. Where can I find me a guy who looks at me the way Obama looks at Michelle? I mean, really. #CoupleGoals If you are a fan of Obama and want a book that catalogues his glory days, this is a great book to own. The selection of quotes is great and they are paired alongside pictures that are amusingly appropriate. If you don't like Obama, I don't know what you're doing on this page, but this book probably won't be for you and looking at it will just make you angrier, so you should probably leave for your own sake. Otherwise, I really don't see how anyone could read this book and fail to smile. I love Obama. Thanks to the publisher for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review!  4.5 stars

Laughing with Obama, edited by M. Sweeney, is just the kind of book of photographs that some of us need right now. It's nice to remember a President who spoke and joked with love. It's subtitled "A Photographic Look Back at the Enduring Wit and Spirit of President Barack Obama." This is a companion book to Hugs from Obama. Sweeney says this "is a photographic celebration of the most heartwarming, playful, and humorous moments of Barack Obama's tine in the Oval Office." This is a companion book to Hugs from Obama. Sweeney says this "is a photographic celebration of the most heartwarming, playful, and humorous moments of Barack Obama's tine in the Oval Office." The photos celebrate eight years of a man who addressed people with humor and laughter. And, some of his quotes are now ironic. Five years ago, he said, "When ignorant folks want to advertise their ignorance, you don't really have to do anything, you just let them talk." There are a number of his comments from the White House Correspondents' Association Dinners. Of course, those lines were scripted. But, they were still funny. As a basketball fan, and a resident of Indiana, I liked one from 2016. "Ted Cruz had a tough week. He went to Indiana - Hoosier country - stood on a basketball court, and called the hoop a 'basketball ring.' What else is in his lexicon? Baseball sticks? Football hats? But sure, I'm the foreign one." It's funny how appropriate his remarks still are. Here's from 2013. "I had dinner with a number of the Republican senators. And I'll admit it wasn't easy. I proposed a toast - it died in committee." The pictures made me nostalgic. There's one with the three living former Presidents, and they're all laughing. He's wearing a tiara in a photo with Girl Scouts. He's in a book store with Michelle. Both of Sweeney's books made me smile. It was nice to remember a President whose humor wasn't cruel. President Obama's humor often poked fun at himself and views of him. The photos in Laughing with Obama are filmed with warmth. It's clever, and funny. And as I said, the humor isn't cruel. I miss that.

This great book of Obama quotes and photos brought me back to the humanity of his time in the White House. Here is a man who does not take himself too seriously and is often the butt of his one-liners. I miss the intelligence, the compassion and kindness of the Obama years.

Plenty of chuckles! Wish variety of speeches were included unless he joked mostly at that particular annual dinner ;))

The entire book has many candid photos of the former president in his element – representing the American public with elegance and style. Some of the picture include a picture directing his conversation with Prince George of Cambridge, sharing a laughing moment with President-Elect Joe Biden, reaching to embrace former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, standing on stage with country-western singer Willie Nelson, several upfront and personal photos with the love of his life – Michelle Obama. Readers can look inside of the man, his family and constituents through his words spoken at the White House Correspondent’s Association dinners throughout his Presidency. Obama’s words are all full of pun and laughter which is something we all need in our lives. One funny quote he made was, “You might have heard that someone jumped the White House fence last week, but I have to give Secret Service credit- they found Michelle, brought her back, she’s safe back at home now.” Obama is jokingly referring to the incident when someone jumped the White House fence which was quite frightening! Readers can enjoy reading Obama’s funny rhetoric while thumbing through the collage of photos that show the former president at ease, happy and fun-loving. According to the Readasaurus Reviews, “if you are a fan of Obama and want a book that catalogues his glory days, this is a great book to own. The selection of quotes is great and they are paired alongside pictures that are amusingly appropriate.”

I was slightly disappointed because I absolutely love President Obama and he's hilarious. Most of the quotes in this book, unfortunately, were not. I loved the pictures, but it would have been nice to see descriptions of who was in them and where/when they were taken. But overall I enjoyed it and I'm going to read more by this author. Best President ever! How did we go from him to the criminal now in the WH? I still miss him! 8 Years and not one hint of scandal. Thank heaven he will be out in a little more than a month and we can hopefully restore ethics and truth in our leader. 😍

I actually don't think this book did the Obama presidency any favors. I found many of the quotes that accompanied the photos to be quite snarky and at times somewhat mean. The pictures, however, were mostly lovely. I actually don't think this book did the Obama presidency any favors. A little thin... It wouldn't have been at all difficult to come up with more material, and more context would have been helpful for some of these. But what there was was good. A little thin...
