Ancient Scotland was a very dangerous place, with warring clans and raiding outsiders like The Vikings. Even though two of Kara's five man crew being modern weapons, they are ineffective when The village is overrun by marauders, and Lucy, the only other woman in Kara's group, is killed. Their little group dwindles when the two security men go back to The present. Kara💃💋 stays, against advice, but she is having The time of her life documenting the Pict village life and early Christian religion, alongside the Druids! Also, she is mesmerized by Drest🐺💪👊🔪 and he with her, although politics is getting in the way ARC Received from Book📚 Sirens💃 I also got this ebook with KU. The author does a great job with the 🌎 world building of the ancient Pict. The book is written for ADULTS only.

This time travel is different from most of the time travels that I’ve read. Instead of an object or an ancient rune, or historical ruin taking the person back in time, it’s an actual time machine! The story starts a little slow, but I find that often happens in the first book of a new series. The action once it starts will make it difficult to put this book down. I was up into the wee hours of the morning with this book!

Nice twist on old story line I chose this book because I am a fanatic for time travel stories. I have read all of Outlander series over and over again and this has a sweet love story as that does but that is the end of the similarity. I'll say no more. There are a few spelling errors but not enough to detract from the story

Wonderful Time Travel Romance This is an excellent blend of ancient Scottish history & new world tech. Imagine being able to time travel at will. To be an anthropologist studying ancient civilizations in real time. Now throw in a gorgeous tattooed warrior leader, a bit of intrigue, an ancient mystery and passionate love. I loved this time travel book. Kara was a strong female character who ended up going through every emotion. Meeting Drest drew her into danger that was prevalent at that time and the journey sometimes surprised me in more ways than one. I loved this story.

Time of the Warrior The story is about researchers found a way to travel back and forth through time. They study that one time period of history. One of the lady researchers fell in love with the warrior from the past and decided to stay. It was a good time travel romance.

Time Travel Romance to Pictish Scotland Undoubtedly because of the popularity of Outlander, there has been a spate of historical time travel romances based in late medieval or 1700-1800s Scotland. But this book takes it farther back than most to Pictish Scotland. At times, I almost felt like this book told more about what is known of the Picts in Scotland than the romance or time travel story itself. The author framed the time travel aspect differently than is usually done in books. But this book takes it farther back than most to Pictish Scotland. At times, I almost felt like this book told more about what is known of the Picts in Scotland than the romance or time travel story itself. The author framed the time travel aspect differently than is usually done in books. In this one, the heroine lived in a future world where time travel was possible, and it was used to explore other times and other cultures. They have some cool gadgets, including a language chip that helps them understand people, even though it didn't work at first. Almost as soon as the heroine and her team arrive in Scotland, they meet the man who will ultimately become the hero of the book. He is the leader of a hill fort, and he believes their story that they are Fae visitors from the Otherworld. He invites them back to the fort as his guest. He's a complex and interesting man, and soon the heroine starts to see him like that; she can’t help but be attracted to him. Various bad things happen throughout the story, which I won't until you about; you’ll have to discover on your own if you choose the book. There are a few interesting twists and turns at various points, that’s for sure. The writing felt a little uneven in places, but I became immersed in the story anyway. The ending felt somewhat rushed and had a few surprises of its own. I would have liked to have read more about what happened with the heroine's mother. All in all, though, I did find this to be a compelling read, and I did enjoy seeing what the Pictish world might have been like. I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

A love story wrapped in betrayal, self-interest, loss and lust. To immerse themselves into their culture and learn about their lives. Things take a turn as they meet Drest and their language chips are not working, luckily Michael (their linguist) knows a bit of Old Irish, which seems to be their native tongue. But they are brought to their home-a hill fort that is on the boundaries of their land that they keep watch over. I found it interesting that Drest trusted them (not completely) enough to bring them into his home. Their language chips are finally working after some tinkering, and continue to work (it seems) until the very end. I had a few questions on how they kept them powered for that length of time and had no issues. But the story continues as you learn more about the Picts life and Kara learns more about her own life-and that there was another group there before them on the same project but it had gotten shut down. I suggest reading this story and gather your own opinions, but it was thoroughly interesting and kept you wanting to read more and learn more about Drest, the project and Kara. This book will keep you on your toes with all of the plot twists and betrayal that you will not see coming. The Romance aspect of this book was very sweet and heartwarming and the cherry on top for this read. However the story is very fast paced and a quick read, the first chapter did have a very abrupt start and did not really explain the main character or setting it got straight to the point right away. Also in this ebook I received I noticed in two different chapters some small grammatical errors. For example on page 137 it says hiss instead of kiss. The second error I found that did not make sense when reading was on page 104 it says, “It’s got late...” this did not sound right and would make more sense if you would get rid of got. Other then that this was a really magical book that I would recommend to anyone looking for an escape you will not be disappointed.

Kara is an Anthropologist major in a college program designed to transport researchers back in time to the Picts reign in Scotland. She and her team are transported and almost immediately find themselves surrounded by warriors led by the local Lord, Drest. He agrees to take them to his Hillfort where they are treated with suspicion as they had told them they were Fairies from another land. After a few days two of the team decides to return home leaving Kara, Michael and Lucy behind Shortly there Kara is an Anthropologist major in a college program designed to transport researchers back in time to the Picts reign in Scotland. Kara finds herself drawn to Drest as she finds his eyes observing her everywhere she goes, but she knows she is only to be there for a little while as she records their lives and surroundings for her research paper. She can't afford to get involved with him romantically. But events draw them closer as a poison attempt on her life nets Drest instead when he drinks from her cup of mead. She is finally allowed to tend to him alone as she injects him with an antidote that she has in her med kit. The rest of the story is exciting and I'm sure you'll appreciate me not spoiling it for you.

Katherine Knight is an anthropologist and has joined a project to go back one thousand years to Ancient Scotland. She and four others go back thru time. Lucy dies during an attack and Michael is killed by Vikings looking for slaves. Two men went back to their time to get more weapons. But it still needs some work not much just spelling the wrong word occasionally. I received this ARC from Book Sirens and voluntarily reviewed it.

This story takes place in a future where time travel is possible. Kara finds Scotland in the early 1000's fascinating, but she finds the Drest, the warrior laird compelling. This was an entertaining story about betrayal, sacrifice, deception, friendship, family, duty, carpe diem, guilt, hope, and love. I thought some of the characters seemed to lack logical motivation for their actions, and the ending seemed a bit rushed, plus the timeline for Kara didn't entirely make sense if time didn't go at the same pace in both places, and there were a few loose ends/unanswered questions when all was said & done, but aside from all that, I enjoyed this book and am looking forw This was an entertaining story about betrayal, sacrifice, deception, friendship, family, duty, carpe diem, guilt, hope, and love. This story is time travel in a different way. Very original and well written. I love time travel novels and this one is written with a wild twist. Well rounded characters you will actually like and wish you could be friends with. I could feel the excitement in Kara getting to travel to Scotland in the time of the Pics. I was a little jealous. Drest is a hero you can actually love. He is really caring and gentle. This is the first book I've read by this author but I will be interested in reading mo This story is time travel in a different way. Very original and well written. Kara travels back through time to the middle ages. Drest lives where they end up and he is drawn to Kara and invites them to stay in his fort. Numerous things happen while they are there. The Fort is attached, a member of the group is killed and two members of the group return to their time. Kara is devoted to her career and tries to resist the pull she feels towards Drest. This is an interesting and well written book and is worth a read

Interesting concept of time travel for research. Kara loves the Pictish time so she is happy to volunteer for a mission to Scotland. What happens is an interesting realistic story of the hardships faced and how brutal things were especially for woman. Interesting twist towards the end that changes everything. I look forward to the next book to see what happens. I received an advanced review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily

Story is a bit stilted Characters are awkward as is the plot. While likeable, the general point of the story is too unbelievable as human nature hasn't changed that much over the centuries. Calling the travelers the Fae is not logical in a warrior society with a history of violence towards the different - there are too many contradictions in people's reactions to make this a more highly rated story.

Kara is a PhD student about to go on the adventure of a life time to Scotland in the 800s. Her life is about to undergo some big changes. She’s also going to have to make one major choice...stay in the 800s with the love of her life or return to the current day where her mother, career, and friends are. Definitely, Kara’s times are changing! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Didn't hit the Mark Had great potential, but the details weren't there. The romance wasnt believable, not was any of it really (for fiction that is). Plot was hastily written, could never get a feel for the characters, or just have feelings while reading (besides irritation). Perhaps I was expecting too much from the book, but I don't understand how it has such high reviews.
