Webster is central to work on animal welfare science. In this book, he begins by discussing the best methods of assessing welfare and auditing particular husbandry systems, then looks at what these assessments say about the welfare problems of particular groups of animals. My only complaint is that some of the applied chapters got quite technical, but it was easy to skim over the particular numbers and calculations, and I'm sure they would be useful for those working directly in those areas.
