I just finished reading Adaptive again, and since I’m marinating in all the feels, I think it needs its very first review. So here goes. “This is the story of a girl learning to believe in herself. Of a boy rediscovering what matters most. In a world on the brink of change, hope and far-reaching love blooms, carrying them through new challenges and dangers. The future is uncertain, but they continue to fight—for a better tomorrow.” Adaptive’s story in particular pierces my heart because it symbol I just finished reading Adaptive again, and since I’m marinating in all the feels, I think it needs its very first review. Many of the themes were pulled from my experiences, hopes, pains, sorrows, and my dreams. I hope it resonates with a few of you too. On a less serious note, if you enjoy snarky characters, guess-the-movie references, and relationship angst with a little (or maybe a lot of) steam, this book is for you!

"Never apologize for loving someone. It's the greatest gift you can give them." Adaptive by Becky Moynihan is the heart-stopping sequel to Reactive (The Elite Trials). It is a dystopian romance set in a world where the choices are limited and only the bravest of all can overcome the cruelty of the reality. In this sequel we follow Lune after the events of Reactive and it immediately picks up where we left our heroes. Okay can I please fangirl now because I am utterly traumatized by the events taking place in Adaptive. My heart was torn from my chest and is currently being held captive in the clever hands of Becky Moynihan. First of all, let me tell you that I ADORED every part of this sequel. If you loved Reactive, you will fall head over heels for Adaptive. The story takes to a slightly different undertone here as our genius author incorporated sci-fi elements making the series Neapolitan ice-cream which is the best kind of ice cream!!!!!!(SCI FI,ROMANCE,YOUNG ADULT, DYSTOPIAN BEAUTY). Lune Avery is my main girl and is solidly dwelling in my heart. This girl needs a break because she goes through so much. Trials are not over yet, my friends!!!! Lune is seeking answers and discovered new group of friends who hold some answers. However, not everything is clear here. I NEED MORE ANSWERS. I am legit scared for these characters. Now on to the main dish..... BRENDAN BEARON! This boy was the highlight of this book. I don't think I can get over how swoony and utterly breathtaking is Bren. His heart is so pure and so big, beating for Lune and oh my Lord, I am shipping them so hard. Becky bestowed upon us some spicy scenes and I highlighted them to back to and have my fill whenever I feel down. Yes, I am obsessed with Bren. This boy deserves the stars and he better get those freaking stars in the next book. :O "She's everything I'm fighting for. Redemption. Hope. Peace. Joy. All the things I can't have until I right the wrongs I've made." Gah!!!! BRENNNNNN <3 There are many characters I have come to love throughout the story and I am patiently waiting for their story to unravel. I know the journey is rocky and it will get worse until it gets better but I am hopeful. This series is worth it. Is is one of my favorites and I hold this characters very close to my heart. Thank you Becky for creating Lune and Bren, thank you for gifting us your creative grace.

There are also a bunch of new characters that I'm in love with. Moynihan seriously has a gift for character creation. You can really see Moynihan's growth as a writer with this book, and I'm so incredibly HYPE for book 3!! I need it in my hands right now. Verdict: YOU NEED THIS SERIES IN YOUR LIFE. Recommend for dystopian lovers, especially Shatter Me series fans!

Let me just begin by saying . . . I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN. What a ride! Second books are normally the make it or break it for most series. This book far surpassed my expectations, which is a really cliche thing to say. But it's true. I practically read the book all in one day. And that's rare for me. The story is emotionally gripping. I can't even trust Lune's judgement about . . . anything. The secrets continue to unearth and only grow more haunting and more intense. The story's pacing was brilliant and kept me flipping pages. I swear, I barely drew breath! Characterization didn't waiver. Not once. And honestly, that's what sold this book to me. Especially the middle. I wanted to scream and pound on Lune for easily falling into trust, especially with a certain character. ESPECIALLY after this character confessed their ability. My red flags were waiving furiously. And yes, I intentionally obscured gender as to not spoil. Because, OMG. Worldbuilding is amazing. I love how well thought out this post-apocalyptic world is. And, I love that it's plunked in the middle of nature. So many dystopian / post-apoc stories are sterile and/or in wastelands. But this world teams with nature, even mutated nature that feels terrifyingly prehistoric at times. The primal nature emerging from the infected human DNA is sensorially rich and . . . downright animal. And that ending (!!!) READ THIS BOOK.

Having a hero complex forces us to distance ourselves from the ones we love, but what kind of existence is worth living alone?" This sequel to Reactive opened up strong. The triangle with Ryker and Bren was interesting and I was all in. But the middle got a little murky for me. Just when I was really in with Luke and Ryker, the memory loss happens. I mean, I guess it worked for the purpose of the sequel and explaining where she came from and what her past was. But "Who will save us from ourselves? I mean, I guess it worked for the purpose of the sequel and explaining where she came from and what her past was. But it sort of lost me. It just got a little slow for me and started to drag some. At a few points, I wasn't sure if this was a great book fit for me. Yet again, as with the first book, I just didn't relate to Lune's emotions or Bren's dialogue. I guess I like my men a bit more quiet and brooding (like Ryker perhaps). Which works great in books, but not as smoothly in real life! ;) What the author does best is writing her action sequences. The Trials were my favorite part of the first book--which made me a little disappointed that this book took an entirely different direction--and this book was no different. The middle might have been a slow climb to get through, but the last quarter of the book was page turning. I'm glad I pressed on and kept reading. I'll definitely be reading the next in the series. Looking forward

Bless the beautiful day this book was written! Ok, but really now. If you loved Reactive you're going to fall that much more in love with the characters and twists that Becky has placed in Adaptive. *I received a free advanced copy of this book from the author for my honest opinion.* Reactive was one of my favorite books of 2018, and I think it is safe to say Adaptive is going to make the 2019 list. Dystopian has always been one of my favorite genres, but there are few series that stick with me. The Elite Trials will be one that does. It is already right up there with The Hunger Games, and if you know me, you know how big of a deal that is. This series is so original and well thought out. It’s full of action and snark, but it also has romance. It’s a great balance overall. Nothing feels too fast or slow, and the characters feel real, despite the powers we learn more about in this book. Adaptive gives a closer look into this world we had only seen a small corner of before. Without giving too much away, there exist a haven of sorts. People live freely there, and those with powers train. There are glimpses into how their world came to be, with references from today’s world like certain movies, which were fun to guess. Three were actually super easy because I’ve seen them a million times, but I’m still trying to figure out the superhero one… I love all the characters, including the new ones. Lune still kicks butt. Ryker is grumpy, and both he and Bren are full of secrets we’re only just barely starting to find out. I miss Asher a lot, but now there’s Jaxon. He’s the funny best friend of Bren. He reminds me a lot of Kenji in the Shatter Me series, so obviously I love him with all my heart. This book is so intense and amazing. Just when I thought I had things figured out, they’d change. There were twists and reveals all throughout, and it was hard not to sit and binge-read the whole thing in one sitting (stupid responsibilities!). I cannot wait until book three. The wait might actually kill me. *Original full review on Functionally Fictional.*

Lune’s adoptive father also has a mission for Ryker who will stop at nothing to fulfill his end. Lune must face the untamed challenges of being outside the Tatum City walls. She has trained all her life for the Elite Trials but nothing has prepared her for what she finds outside those walls. The secrets uncovered and the loyalties tested will require Lune to be as adaptable as possible. I can’t get enough of this series! The characters are so authentic and the reader has no choice but to root for them. The reader is not sure a happy ending can occur at times which is thrilling and frustrating at the same time. I thoroughly enjoyed this sequel but I believe the first book was better due to the romance. This book has less of the romance but more action so it’s still a book I would recommend. The reader is transported beyond the wall and it is not something you’ll want to miss. I highly recommend this book but you definitely should read the first book, Reactive, before picking this one up. It is NOT a standalone novel. This book is definitely for fans of The Hunger Games and Divergent. My thanks to the author for an ARC of the book. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. No positive review was expected and no compensation received.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and volunteered to review it. For a dystopian romance, this is packing a lot of punches. Adaptive is the perfect Bridge between Reactive and the final book in The Elite Trial series. Becky has a way with words that let mould our current world beautiful in with the dystopian world she has created. The relationships forged, explored, and .....well you'll have to just read it to know more. I'm not going to say the book ended nicely, or perfectly, because..... Well, again, you'll have to read it. 😋

Well, that’s a hell of a follow up to Reactive! I have to admit that this story took some turns that I NEVER expected!! If I had one complaint, it would be that the pacing was a bit slow, especially in the middle third of the book. Also, some of the love scenes didn’t work for me. But overall this was an excellent addition to the series and will definitely leave fans eagerly waiting for the conclusion!!

I adored this book! It picks up right where Reactive left off and dives into relentless action, and not a small amount of romantic tension. I couldn't put it down, and may have ignored my other responsibilities while I binged through it. If you haven't read Reactive, go read it at once. If you have, then you know you need to read Adaptive immediately so you don't need me to tell you to buy it! #teamryker

Wowww Incredible....such a rollercoaster with emotions and actions. Couldn't put the book down for the life of me since I was so intoxicated by this book. The ending was so powerful that I cannot wait to read book 3 of this trilogy. I hope Lune kicks some real ass in the last book. I know I would after everything she has been through. I do hope Bren is alive though since he is part of her other soul...

Great dystopian story I found this series accidentally yesterday and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Sometimes with dystopian books I find it hard to picture these different societies and how they look but not with these books. I feel like I’m there and can totally picture it all. Great descriptions with believable characters. I can’t wait to read book 3 and see what happens next with Lune and Bren.

So many heart stopping moments! Becky is a master at having her readers follow along with the journey. One moment I was rooting for ***** the next ***** (spoilers). This book is full of action and romance! Lune is a strong and determined main character and I can’t wait to find out what happens next! Full review to come!!

*I received an ARC of Adaptive from the author in exchange for an honest review.* And, I had to add the physical copy of this book to my collection too because if you loved Reactive, then you will love the sequel so much more. This is a must read if you love action, romance, and dystopian worlds. Plus, it is fast-paced, which is a must for me!
