"Eight years in the White House went by so fast. That's why I'm so grateful that Lawrence was there to capture them. I hope you enjoy his work as much as I do." --From the foreword by Barack Obama When Lawrence Jackson took the job as White House photographer in early 2009, he knew he'd have a front row seat to history. What he didn't expect was the deep personal connection "Eight years in the White House went by so fast. That's why I'm so grateful that Lawrence was there to capture them. I hope you enjoy his work as much as I do." --From the foreword by Barack Obama When Lawrence Jackson took the job as White House photographer in early 2009, he knew he'd have a front row seat to history. What he didn't expect was the deep personal connection he would feel, as a fellow African American, with the President of the United States. Yes We Did is filled with Lawrence's intimate photographs and reflections, as well as first-person recollections from President Obama, everyday citizens, and notable personalities including Bono, Stephen Curry, Valerie Jarrett, Admiral Mike Mullen, and others. The book is a celebration of the most inclusive and representative White House in history - where in between momentous and pivotal decisions, the President and First Lady opened the doors of the People's House to schoolkids, athletes, senior citizens, hip-hop artists, and more. For anyone who misses the humanity, grace, and undefinable "cool factor" of the Obama White House, this warm and inspiring book provides an affirming, proud, and focused lens on our history.

Lawerence Jackson did an amazing job and I am sure quite a stressful job of capturing these precious moments of former President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle, his children, and staff. His photos captured how down to earth Barack Obama was/is. How he did his best to make the White House the "Peoples House". He captured moments when the President was hard at work and when he was playing a friendly game of basketball, moments when he was in deep thought, and moments when he was just having fun Lawerence Jackson did an amazing job and I am sure quite a stressful job of capturing these precious moments of former President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle, his children, and staff. His photos seem to come alive. It was like you almost forgot you were looking at photos. If you want to take a quick journey through 8 years with the President while in the White House this is the book to get.

If the current state of American politics leaves you anxious and depressed, this look at a President who welcomed children, elders, military families, and everyday Americans into the White House should brighten your day. It is a celebration (and avoids controversy) making for an uplifting collection of photographs and reflections. Stories and quotes from members of the Obama administration, members of Congress, and even singer-activist Bono add to the warm feelings.

I laughed. I cryed. Some great photos and stories to remind me of a smart, sensitive, loving couple. The photos of them together show the love in their eyes for each other. The photos with the kids of all ages show their joy. A family with a joy of life that really connected with each other and all others. And was kind to ALL!

Fantastic, candid photos and great commentary. I truly admire the Obamas and miss their time in the White House. I am so glad they are both working, as private citizens, in continuing to better this nation and the world in general. I'm glad this book was written. Fantastic, candid photos and great commentary. This was a real tonic for me during this very rough time we all are experiencing as a nation during the Coronavirus pandemic. It was helpful and soothing to be reminded of a truly great, intelligent, caring and humane President at a time when we are sorely lacking one in office now.
