One night, Molly Clarke walked away from her life. The car abandoned miles from home. The note found at a nearby hotel. The shattered family that couldn't be put back together. It happens all the time. Women disappear, desperate to leave their lives behind and start over. She doesn't want to be found. Or at least, that's the story. But is that what really happened to Molly One night, Molly Clarke walked away from her life. The car abandoned miles from home. The note found at a nearby hotel. The shattered family that couldn't be put back together. It happens all the time. Women disappear, desperate to leave their lives behind and start over. She doesn't want to be found. Or at least, that's the story. But is that what really happened to Molly Clarke? The night Molly disappeared began with a storm, running out of gas, and a man in a truck offering her a ride to town. With him is a little girl who reminds her of the daughter she lost years ago. It feels like a sign. And Molly is overcome with the desire to be home, with her family—no matter how broken it is. She accepts the ride. But when the doors are locked shut, Molly begins to suspect she has made a terrible mistake. When a new lead comes in after the search has ended, Molly's daughter, Nicole, begins to wonder. Nothing about her mother's disappearance makes sense. Nicole returns to the small, desolate town where her mother was last seen to find the truth. The locals are kind and eager to help. The innkeeper. The bartender. Even the police. Until secrets begin to reveal themselves and she comes closer to the truth about that night—and the danger surrounding her.

Ladies and gentleman I announce a big winner and I know I enjoyed so many thrillers this year and gave them five stars but this books deserves 5,5 stars because it is really unique, original and better than most of the books. It’s emotional, heart wrecking, thought provoking grief story but it is also action packed, mind bending, exciting, nail-biter, body trembler , heart pounder, soul shaker and crusher kidnapping story. It is genuinely disturbing family drama but it is also WTH I just read kind of obsession, abuse, child neglect story. And the author is a magician to combine different genres, mixing them and serving an outstanding, unputdownable, terrifying novel with her talented story-telling skills. This is my new fast reading record! Even though I’m not thankful to turn into stay-at-home writer and reader at these social distancing, #homequarantinechallenge days, only silver lining I get, I may fully concentrate on a well-written books and I’m able to forget what kind of madness is going on at the outer world. (I can see myself at a movie scene during the apocalypse, I’m hiding under a table and screaming “Please, leave me alone, I have only 10 pages left to finish!”) I gotta stop blubbering right now. Let’s move on and talk about the plot: The story narrated by two women: Grieving mother and daughter: Molly and Nicole. Molly lost her daughter. Nicole lost her sister. Molly suffers from guilt feelings, self-punishing herself for 5 years because her 9 years old daughter Annie dashed down from the house and ran to the main road, escaping from her baby sitter sister Nicole who is talking on the phone and the very same time Molly’s car approached the house and she hit… Yes, you may fill the blanks as well. This part of the story torn my heart apart. That haunted day Molly hasn’t only lost her daughter, she has also lost her whole family. Now her husband is estranged, he may have an affair. Her daughter tells that she hates her and when she goes to her son’s school to watch his match and support him, he acts like he doesn’t see her but he also shows his irritation. Last nail in the coffin! Everybody hates her. She blames herself. Maybe her family will be better without her. So she drives her car in the middle of nowhere, runs out of gas, leaves her car, begins to walk. And a truck stops to help her. AND THEN? Her car is found by the local authorities. A search team is assigned but she is nowhere to be found. She seems like vaporized into thin air. They keep searching till they found a letter is written by Molly and left at the hotel tells: “Don’t look for me!” The hotel room is charged by her credit card and the signature under the letter belongs to her. So the case is closed and Molly’s husband seems relieved as her children deals with their guilt feelings because of their unfair treatment to their mom. Nicole is already numb in pain, turned into an alcoholic, dropped out of high school since she lost her sister and now her mother is gone. She blames herself, gets suspicious about her father’s motives because he stops searching and forces her to move her life till she gets a phone call giving her crucial tips about her mother’s disappearance. She goes back to Hastings Pass, renting a hotel room and digging more because she promised her brother to find her whatever it takes. But did she put herself danger by resuming her search? Because when we read Molly’s part of the story: we find out she is kidnapped by the truck driver and his 9 years old, creepy daughter Alice (the same age her daughter Annie died), home prisoned and losing her hope at each day because her escaping attempts to the woods didn’t take her to anywhere and Alice tells her that her mother died in those woods. So time is ticking! The daughter searches her mother, the kidnapper hunts for daughter and the mother tries to find a way to save them all. How will their story end? I already spilled more beans so I have to shut my mouth right now. Go blind and read this book! And enjoy the mind numbing, WTH I just read ending! So much special thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for sharing this incredible ARC with me. And dear Wendy Walker, please keep on writing your smart, thrilling and thought-provoking stories. blog instagram facebook twitter

While driving home one night during a terrible storm, Molly contemplates running away from her family. Shortly after, she goes missing. The police believe Molly abandoned her family, but her daughter Nicole won't give up hope that her mother didn't simply walk away and continues to investigate her mother's disappearance in the small and strange town of Hastings. The narrative is split between Molly and Nicole. Both characters hold their own and develop throughout. Both are dealing with the trauma of loss in different ways, and the events of this book highlight their emotions. The transitions between Molly and Nicole were smooth and I was equally interested in both of their stories. This book sucked me in from the very beginning and kept me distracted, which is much needed right now! It’s packed with tension, suspense, drama, and some sick and twisted characters. It also kept me guessing and had me suspicious of almost every character. There are some unexpected twists and turns, but none are over-the-top. Parts are a little unbelievable, but not ridiculously so. A couple of moments had my heart jumping out of my chest, and the final scene gave me the chills--little Alice is one creepy child! I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Everything worked to keep me caught in the story from beginning to end. I would have read this book straight through except pesky old sleep got in the way.  Five years ago, mother of three, Molly, hit and killed her nine year old daughter, while driving her car. Grief has torn her family apart. Her husband is distant and often doesn't come home, her high achieving twenty-one year old daughter was expelled from high school, lost her college scholarship, now drinks and sleeps with strange men, as a way of life. Her college age son won't even speak to her when she goes to watch his college games. And Molly cannot forgive herself even though her daughter's death was an accident that could not have been avoided. She had done nothing wrong but her grief from losing one daughter, to death, and the rest of her family, because she was the reason her daughter died, has Molly thinking she should just walk away from them, because she thinks that is what they want.  During a very horrendous storm, as she is driving near the little town of Hastings, Molly runs out of gas, gets out of her car to find help, and is picked up by a man in a truck. She has been thinking that this might be her chance to just leave everything. But she has second thoughts almost immediately.  Two weeks later, the search for Molly is called off and she is deemed a "walk away", someone who has disappeared because she wanted to disappear. When her daughter, Nicole, gets a phone call from a woman who said she saw her mom get into a pickup truck on the day Molly disappeared, Nicole goes to the town to speak to the woman. The more that Nicole investigates and asks questions, the more she realizes that everybody is lying to her and she has no idea if she can trust anyone.  The entire book had me captivated. Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for this ARC.

After reading the description for “Don’t Look For Me”, I was even more excited to start reading. Molly Clarke is driving home and thinking about her particularly awful day. She needs to stop for gas as the light has been on for a little while now and home is still two hours away. A Gas n’ Go station is up ahead. Molly figures her husband, John and her daughter; Nicole will both be out for the evening. John will likely be out having drinks with friends. Nicole having just turned twenty-one has many new options of places to go. These options keep Molly up at night, watching the clock and worrying. Molly knows Nicole avoids her and John pretends to be asleep when she gets into bed. Even her son, Evan has changed. Evan attends a boarding school off the road she travels now. Molly makes this four hour trip every second Thursday to watch his football games. Her heart twists as she remembers how Evan acted after the game. A dismissive husband, an angry daughter, and a cruel son…. Molly thinks about Nicole’s final words to her after their argument the other day…words that gutted her. Five years ago a horrible tragedy tore this family apart. Molly sees the dark clouds above. A hurricane is coming. A category four they say. Molly has driven right into its path. She stops the car on the side of the road and when she tries to start it again, it won’t turn over. She’s out of gas. The entrance to Gas n’ Go is just about thirty feet away. She runs towards the gas station and her tears fall. When she gets to the entrance of Gas n’ Go she sees there are no cars and no lights inside the store. There is a cardboard sign. She stares at the words… Closed for the storm! Again she thinks about Evan, Nicole, and John. How they stopped loving her five years ago. “I am a bad mother” Words in her head like a prayer. “Walk away. Just walk away” Headlights come her way. A truck stops. A friendly voice tells her she shouldn’t be out with the storm coming. What will happen to Molly Clarke? Another thrilling read from Wendy Walker! After the impactful opening chapter, I was hooked. This was an unputdownable read with terrific twists and turns that I flew through in just one day. The story is told from Molly and her daughter, Nicole’s point of view, which I really enjoyed. The characters were well fleshed out and intriguing. An unforgettable psychological thriller that deals with the relationships between parent and child, and husband and wife. A story about grief, anger, loss, blame, and forgiveness. Wendy Walker has yet to let me down and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next! I'd like to thank the publisher for providing me with a copy of this novel. All opinions are my own.

***NOW AVAILABLE, DON'T MISS THIS ONE, TOP 10 THRILLER OF THE YEAR*** Wow this was a cleverly plotted psychological thriller that I raced through. There were quite a few characters but they were easy to keep track of. The novel is told from two points of view. Molly Harper has been living with guilt for many years. There were quite a few characters but they were easy to keep track of. The novel is told from two points of view. Molly Harper has been living with guilt for many years. Her youngest daughter is dead, Molly has not been able to live with the guilt that she feels for her part in her daughter’s death. Her remaining family, her husband, son and older daughter haven’t made it any easier on her. Her daughter is distant, has dropped out of school and changed her behavior in dangerous ways. The morning that the novel starts with, she has said some horrible things to her mother. Her husband has been distant, supposedly working long hours and gone for some unexplained times. She wonders if he is being unfaithful??? Her son is away at school and also hasn’t forgiven his mother for his sister’s death. On the morning when everything begins to happen, Molly had driven to his school to watch his football game. He wouldn’t even stop to speak with her. Molly has a long drive home and because she is distracted she runs out of gas. It is stormy and rainy with the gas station is boarded up. Molly is alone on this road, wet, exhausted and wondering what she will do next. Here is when the story takes off. After this we know that Molly is missing. We don’t know anything more than this, that she is just GONE!! An investigation of about two weeks duration takes place including an extensive search of the area, particularly the town of Hastings and outlying areas. The police and searchers believe that she has just walked away from her sad life and is living somewhere else and hiding from those that are trying to reach her. A note is found that implies that this was her decision. Remember though that small towns can hold big secrets! The other point of view is that of Nic, the oldest daughter. After she is back home and thinking more about her mother she really believes that the search wasn’t complete. She is now desperate to find her mother, she is sure that something has happened to her. She knows her well enough to believe that she didn’t just walk away. But where is she, who has taken her, and why. Oh this is a book that will have you suspecting so many people of being the villain in this story. It is creepy and involves a little girl, age nine, who wants a new mother. That is all I will tell you of the plot, but it is original and disturbing but utterly absorbing. I highly recommend this book to lovers of psychological thrillers, you won’t be able to guess the outcome of this one! Wendy Walker is now on my list of must read authors. This was a buddy read with Mary Beth. I received an ARC of this novel from the publisher through Edelweiss.

This one grabbed me from page one and did not let go. Whew! She has done it again. I was entranced and captivated for the entire book. Nuff said! But of course, I will say more. This book had some twists and turns. It also had many suspects and had me reading with my super sleuth hat on. I am not a fan of reveals that come out of left field and some will think that this one did but if you read closely who might not think that way. Well, you might think that a little - but - man, was this good! What a ride, Wendy, what a tense suspenseful ride! Highly recommend. BTW, if I ever go missing someone better be looking for me longer than two weeks. I don't care what the note might say. Just putting that out there! I have always enjoyed Wendy Walker's novels, but Don't Look for Me takes her writing to a whole new level. In my opinion, her best work yet! It is clear from the very first pages that Molly Clarke is struggling. After a family tragedy, the remaining family members have drifted apart. Each consumed with their own grief and guilt, they rarely communicate and certainly not in a positive way. Molly's daughter Nicole has told her she hates her, her husband won't look her in the eye and her son publicly shuns her. One night on a solo road trip, Molly becomes consumed with thoughts of leaving it all behind. The way she sees it, her family would be better off without her; happier. With this storm of negative thoughts swirling in her head, she runs into a real life storm, literally. Just when it seems things can't get any worse, they do. She runs out of gas on an abandoned stretch of road. Molly doesn't return home. Nicole, Molly's daughter, has been spiraling out of control since the accident that tore their family apart. She knows it. Hell, everyone knows it. Between the drinking, one-night stands and explosions at her mother, Nicole's not proud of herself. After her Mom goes missing, Nicole is desperate to find her. The things she said to her on the very morning she disappeared, she can't live with it. She has to make amends, and she can't until her Mother is found. The authorities seem to think that Molly walked away, but Nicole knows better. Her Mom would never leave her family, would she? Nicole returns to Hastings, the place where her Mother's car and belongings were found, to begin her own investigation. She will never give up on finding her Mom. If the police won't continue the search, she will. Even if Molly doesn't want to be found. This novel alternates perspectives between Molly and Nicole, starting off on different timelines and ultimately merging into one. In Walker's signature style, the chapters are short, with each one ending on a revelation or mini-cliffhanger, making this the epitome of a one more chapter-type of story. I thought this was brilliantly plotted the entire way through. From the very first chapter, I was hooked. There are extremely intense moments, eerie moments, heart-breaking moments; this truly has it all. In addition to being extremely suspenseful, I was impressed with the examination of grief, guilt and depression. It's a layered story, one that definitely evokes a lot of feelings; at least it did for me. The way in which Walker incorporated a family trauma into the story, and was able to tactfully explore how that one event had lasting, and unique repercussions for each of the family members, was just so well done. If you are a Reader who likes your Thrillers to have some substance, this one definitely fits the bill. I loved both Nicole and Molly. Watching their stories unfold, learning the how and why of their circumstances, was just so powerful. This will definitely make my Favorites List for 2020! Will it be on yours? Don't Look for Me is now available, wherever books are sold. This may sound like a pitch, but really, I'm just trying to bring a little joy to your life. Thank you so much to the publisher, St. Martin's Press, for providing me with a copy of this to read and review. I truly appreciate it and of course, cannot wait to see what Walker comes up with next!!!

Nic (Nicole) arrives in the small town of Hastings to investigate her mother Molly’s disappearance after her car was found abandoned by the side of the road. I was captivated from the first page with heart-pounding, edge-of-your-seat tension. I simply couldn’t put it down and read it in two sittings. One of the things I enjoy most about a Wendy Walker novel is the way she delves into the psychology of her characters. People are complex and life is full of shades of gray. The way Molly and Nic suffer and cope after their tragedy is done with skill and empathy. The small town has a dark underbelly with secrets and untrustworthy characters. I did guess one twist but the tension as to how it would be resolved remained, so it didn’t ruin the story for me. I found the ending somewhat convoluted, or this would have been an easy 5 stars. Still, this is a terrific psychological thriller that I highly recommend! • To be published on Sept 20, 2020. • I received a free copy of the book from St. Martin’s Press in exchange for an honest review. • This was a buddy read with Marialyce, and one we both enjoyed. For our duo review of this book, and others, please visit https://yayareadslotsofbooks.wordpres...

DON’T LOOK FOR ME by WENDY WALKER is a tense, thrilling, propulsive, and riveting psychological thriller with heart that had me totally entranced and immersed in this tale. My feelings were all over the place while I was reading this one. I was on edge, thrilled, emotional, awed, worried, scared, and excited. I was feeling so uptight and gasped so many times while I was reading this story. WENDY WALKER delivers a suspenseful, twisty, haunting, atmospheric, well-crafted and well-written story here with quite a few surprising twists and turns. Molly Clarke's family was destroyed by a terrible accident that changed them all forever. Riddled with guilt and living daily with a family that now seems to hate her, Molly contemplates running away. Maybe they'd be better off without her. When Molly disappears during a storm on her way home from her son's football game her family is devastated. Her car is found on the side of the road, no gas, phone still in the charger but no sign of Molly. After a 4 day search, the police deem her disappearance a "walk away". Did Molly simply walk away from a life that got to be too much to bear or is there something more sinister at play? The story is told in alternating chapters between Molly and her daughter Nicole who is looking for her mother. The reader knows what has happened to Molly and we follow her ordeal while also being in on Nic’s search for her mother. When the two plot lines converge - it's magic! You guys - this book gripped me and never let go! I loved Molly - she was smart, emotional and a kick ass mom. This is my new FAVORITE Wendy Walker book! It had everything I enjoy - mystery, suspense a creepy town with sinister happenings and a great twist! I am a huge fan of this authors work and have read and loved all of her books. Sometimes that can create expectations that sit too high for an author to consistently achieve. I’m thrilled to say that this book surpassed my hopes and expectations. It was brilliant, shocking, unique, twisty, terrifying and completely unputdownable! Easily makes it on my Best Of 2020 List! If you enjoy psychological thrillers, this is a must read! Highly recommended! Thank you to St Martin Press for my review copy!

After all, there was a note... And, she certainly had a valid reason to leave...GUILT. And, the blame and scorn of her husband and children. But “there was also the reward money. A million dollars for her mother’s safe return. Five hundred for tips leading to her (whereabouts). Nothing brought out a liar like cash.” So when a tip came in, two weeks after Molly’s disappearance, one that sounded legitimate to her daughter, Nicole- Nic returns to the dying town of Hastings to investigate on her own. The story is told in two narratives, both equally compelling. Molly’s which begins the night of the storm. And Nic’s which begins two weeks later after the “tip” comes in. But, who, if anyone, can Nic trust? For me, Wendy Walker’s biggest strength is her characters. They are REAL, they are FLAWED, and they make me FEEL. I preferred “The Night Before” just slightly...as I STRUGGLED a bit with the explanation given at the conclusion of this one.. (minus .5 stars) it got a bit CONVOLUTED for me....so, I am going with 4.5 stars rounded up! Thank You to the publishers at St. Martin’s Press for inviting me to read and review this book early, with a digital copy provided through NetGalley. AVAILABLE NOW!! And, if you haven’t already done so, read “The Night Before” as well- just optioned by Eva Longoria for TV!

Her character is one of the best representations of a mother’s love and bond with her children I have read. And in a thriller yet!! Themes of grieve and guilt drive the plot here, making this one not only the entertaining read it is but an emotional one as the power of love shines through. With all Wendy Walker’s books, it’s all in the skillfully layered suspense and clues; however, here with this one, she kicks it up by adding a sense of terrifying dread. The tension is high right from the start and increases with the climax to the story. I was so engrossed in the ending the noisy room I was in felt like I was alone with the only sound was my heart pounding. The clues are layered for you to figure out a few things before our characters do, and some are layered deeper and you might be shocked with some of the perfectly paced twists and turns to the story. Wendy Walker creates an intense character here with Alice, who is just a child, and I loved her and Molly’s dynamics. I was put right into Molly’s shoes with the inner conflicts she had with Molly. I could go on and on about this one, but I am going to stick with just read it!! You are in for a thrilling treat!! While trying to beat the hurricane she is driving through the downpour, wind and rain whipping around..on a deserted road...in a rundown little town....she runs out of gas..... OMG..this town gave me the creeps. Just the overall vibe of the rundown town with the little gas station, motel and bar. Molly knew she should avoid the town, she knew nothing good would come out of it. Yet, there she was driving through the town, all alone...... I would love to say I would never put myself in Molly's place but I think we all do at some point. Not making the best decisions, derailed by things that are playing heavily on our mind. Yet, what did Molly do? Did she decide she was just going to walk away? I literally flew through this book. It was quite the page turner. This was a 5 star read all the way until the end for me. The ending was a little "too much" in my mind. I did have trouble believing how everything was explained away in the end. However, I still really enjoyed it and would highly recommend this one! Huge thanks to Jordy for this physical ARC that he sent my way from his giveaway! Thank you to St. Martin's press for the gifted copy via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

The story starts out when Molly Clark, stranded and walking down an isolated road shortly before a big storm hits waves down an approaching truck which picks her up and takes her in for shelter from the storm. Almost immediately Molly realizes things don't seem right. The driver won't answer questions not even so much as to give her his name, the doors are child proof locked, and there is a small girl in the back of the cab who oddly resembles her daughter who she tragically lost 5 years earlier to the day in an accident in which she was responsible. Molly never makes it home that night and goes missing... The first chapter actually had me scared, and I was obviously immediately hooked! I gobbled this book up as fast as I could while also still trying to take my time and appreciate it. I love how Walker's characters were all deeply complex, flawed and human. I especially enjoyed Nic, Molly's oldest daughter, and how tormented she was by her younger sisters passing and how she processed her grief. We all know everyone processes grief differently and this book certainly showed this. While this was definitely an edge-of-your-seat thriller that had me captivated until the very last page, it was also a story about loss, and a family recovering from that loss, and the journey in between. It was fabulous and I would recommend everyone go out and grab it on publication day, it's that good. Walker keeps getting better every book she writes so I'm incredibly excited to see what comes next! Fantastic job Ms. Walker, and thanks again to St. Martin's Press for the advanced edition!!!

Wendy Walker does it again with her latest thriller, Don't Look for Me !! Wow! Molly is driving home in the middle of a rainstorm that’s about to turn into a hurricane. She’s driving home but she doesn’t know why—her husband barely looks at her and her daughter hates her. The beginning was so sad. A mother, Molly Clarke, is immersed in grief after the loss of her child five years earlier. Her daughter was killed by a car. A car Molly was driving. How awful it had to be, to be the one who took her life? A life full of promise that will never materialize. Of course, Molly blames herself and she thinks her remaining two children, Nicole and Evan, and her husband, John, blame her too. Her home life imploded after the accident and no amount of counseling was able to help them. Each is suffering and acting out in their own way. After having a horrible day and driving at night during a storm, Molly stops for gas, and then she disappears. A couple of days after her mysterious disappearance, a letter is found in a hotel room. In it, Molly writes that she doesn't want to be found. To please don't look for her. Nicole can't believe her mother would walk away from them. She believes foul play may be at hand and when she gets a new lead pointing her to the town of Hastings, she knows she has to find out the truth. As horrible as it may be. Wendy Walker knows how to write a good story. I empathized with both Molly and Nic's characters. They were both in so much pain. The accident was devastating. No wonder the whole family was so lost. Don't Look for Me had a very creepy feeling almost to the end. It was perfect for an October read. Cliffhanger: No 4/5 Fangs MrsLeif's Two Fangs About It | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram

I must have suspected every male character in the book at some point. The entire book has a wonderful sense of creepiness to it, just like a well done psychological thriller should. The book’s narration veers between Molly and Nic. Both are well defined characters. They may have their faults, but both know how to use their brains and use them, they do. So often, I am disappointed by psychological thrillers. But not this one. The one final twist was a bit over the top, but not enough to mar the overall experience of the book. HAPPY PUBLICATION DAY! An unputdownable, highly suspenseful thriller that will surely be on my top 10 year-end list! This is the story of a woman named Molly, who after a family tragedy, seemingly decides to walk away from her current life to start anew. The only thing is, when her family and the police find a note from her, it doesn’t necessarily close all doors...but opens new ones. 2.5 stars I don't think Wendy Walker is the author for me. This is the third? book I've read from this author now and I'm just never super impressed by her books, I just don't understand the hype. This book was okay, and I do think the ending had a decent twist that I didn't see coming, but I just don't find her thrillers to be very interesting. The plot is so basic and this doesn't really bring anything new to the table as far as thrillers go. This was my second Wendy Walker novel, and though I enjoyed it more than All Is Not Forgotten, it was not a 5-star read for me. While the characters were beautifully fleshed out, 9-year old Alice's voice was nearly indistinguishable from the multitude of other adults in the story. That's always an off-putting challenge for me to overcome when reading. Told from dual narratives, those of Molly and Nicole--mother and daughter, this novel really is a quick, gripping read. There were a couple things, however, which rankled (view spoiler)[Why was "Mick" always picking Alice up and carrying her? This was a 9-year old kid. Who picks up and carries 9-year olds? Also, how in the hell was "Mick" able to drill a hole in the wood covering Molly's window without her noticing? She was locked in the room. Little discrepancies like these always bug me. (hide spoiler)] The red herrings were admirably done, but I was still able to figure out a large portion of the story by about the halfway mark. Despite my minor criticisms, based on the reviews I'm seeing so far, this is clearly going to be a well-loved, huge hit for Wendy Walker...and I'm glad. 3.5 stars Available September 15th in the United States. **A huge thanks to the publisher for my review copy.
