Pet peeve #71 Being literally hammered with the same detail over and over again. we get it, she's a siren and no one can love her without manipulation. We hear that almost every single page. It was exhausting. I also feel the rape was just used as a plot drive and really had no bearing on the story other than to shock. I also didn't believe that Dean who is 21 year old is a faculty member in their high school, I have read several books like that now. He wasn't a savant or anything so I don't know w Pet peeve #71 Being literally hammered with the same detail over and over again. we get it, she's a siren and no one can love her without manipulation. Something was missing for me with this book. I think, in part, I was frustrated with Lorcan and her lack of agency. I realize she had a terrible experience being abused and controlled--but she also has an immense amount of power just sitting there, untapped. She had a spectacular childhood filled with loving parents, riches, security, and doting friends. Her depression and desire to die, to numb the pain through drugs, and generally self-destruct was just not appealing to me as a reader. I think Something was missing for me with this book. Her depression and desire to die, to numb the pain through drugs, and generally self-destruct was just not appealing to me as a reader. I think this is more a lack of "reader chemistry" than anything. While I love reading about flawed characters, I have a hard time with characters who feel sorry for themselves when they really do have it all: she's rich. Beautiful beyond imagination. Powerful. And has a harem of men who are obsessed with/in love with her (in spite of her not realizing it). I found the mystery of her power far more interesting as a narrative point, but it was barely focused on...to "out there" to really be grasped (stars screaming? planets dying? what???). I wish it were better explained. Maybe we got a few more dream sequences. Maybe her pain manifested in a more physical way than just her passing out? There seemed to be a lot of missed opportunities, plot holes, and overall a fundamental lack of chemistry between Lorcan and her guys and between me (the reader) and this book. I'll likely not be picking up the next book.

Another winner for me Going into this book you'll need to have an open mind about the mythology, it is set in the same world as the Red Masques and Vengeance but you dont need to read those to enjoy this as there are some new supernaturals introduced and no real crossover ( But those 2 series are awesome and should defo be read) This book was strange, I love how vague the synopsis is. I normally tend to skim it to avoid spoiling anything for myself. I normally tend to skim it to avoid spoiling anything for myself. For me personally its best going into this book half blind but if you want some idea what its about below are some mild spoilers (view spoiler)[ Lorcan and her twin brother Cormac returning back to their childhood home after leaving in the middle of the night 3 years ago. Their house is situated in a supernatural compound run by the local pride, the alpha being one of her childhood best friends who they left behind. The book mostly focuses on why the twins left, Lorcan's excessive drug abuse and her wanting to die. Dealing with her abuser and learning that she can be loved. She reconnects with her childhood best friends, The Reid brothers, Dean the alpha, Rhett his beta and their adoptive brother Cash who is a leopard shifter. There's also Adriel and Desmond the jinn. A lot of partying happens and at one point i forgot that the twins are only 17 years old and the Dean the being the oldest at 20. They acted older than they were but with what they've been through and the fact that they're human it makes a bit of sense. The book spans over a 5 day period with most of it focused on getting to know the characters and their backstory. I really tried not to compare Lorcan to Vegas and Grey ( the 2 from Sinclairs other series) but it was hard not to. I am very happy that they are so different. Lorcan has been through and is still currently going through a lot but she was very weak compared to the others. Towards the end of the book it does kinda explain way she seems so weak in certain situations. I am looking forward to some serious character development cause she has the potential to be a serious badass. (hide spoiler)] There's alot of growling and purring and overall possessiveness so if that's your thing you'll love the guys. This book feels heavy esoteric in regards to the explanation of some of the universe related things, very vague i know but like i said its best to go in half blind. It does end on a cliffhanger but overall i really cant wait for book 2

Enjoyment factor for me personally was higher, but upon reflection this was a 4 star book. I really enjoyed this, who h is funny because there are lots of things I might not usually tolerate, but none of it bothered me here. I don't know why I find reading about characters with addictions fascinating. One of my favourite heroines ever from a book is a high functioning drug addict, and while Lorcan wasn't anywhere near as fascinating as Chess, I still found her interesting. I don't know why I find reading about characters with addictions fascinating. One of my favourite heroines ever from a book is a high functioning drug addict, and while Lorcan wasn't anywhere near as fascinating as Chess, I still found her interesting. Lorcan is a complete mess. She realised what sort of creature she was at 15 and so ran away with her twin brother and abandoned her friends because she thought it was the only way they could all move on in light of her revelation. On the three years she's been gone she has suffered sexual, physical and emotional abuse and self medicates to deal with the burden of the creature she is and to avoid dealing with the trauma of what has happened to her. She longs to die, just to escape her existence, but as a immortal being she hasn't managed to find a way to do it yet. When she is forced to move back to town she reconnects with five guys from her last and revelations come to light baiut what she is, why she left, what has happened to her and how she can try and move on. I liked the guys. They were a mix of creatures and all distinct from one another, although they could have a little more characterisation, by usual RH standard it was pretty good. It is sort of insta lovey, but only because of the previous connection she had with them before she left, but there's still lots of ground work to go in the relationships. As a Survivour of sexual assault, nothing goes beyond kissing in the book, which fel right. The world building is also quite interesting in the detail of what she is and the mixture of the different supernatural creatures. This book won't be for everyone, but it was just the sort of thing I like to read. Despite some issues and possible inconsistencies, it didn't bother me in light of my enjoyment factor. It reminded me of how much I enjoyed Stunich's Allison in Underland series, which was far from perfect, but one of my favourite RH's because its just my cup of tea!

She tells the guys that they can never love her or vice versa. There is a point in the book that reveals why she does what she does and the guys don't like it. However, her true nature is revealed. Can the guys help her? Show her that she can be loved? Will she get the choice? There is a lot of emotions that go one throughout the book. It does get dark and twisted so if that is your thing then I highly recommend this book. You will not be disappointed.

I have read what is currently out for the Red Masque series and I loved it so when I saw this book, I was eager to read it. I was a little concerned because I am not the biggest fan of dark reads. I don't want all happiness and sunshine but I also don't want to feel bleak and depressed for the duration of the read. I am happy to say that even though there was a lot of dark themes which caused feelings of hopelessness it wasn't unrelenting. Just wow When I started reading this book, I was immediately pulled into the story and just couldn't stop reading. Lorcan and her twin brother Cormac think that no one can love them, or even like them because of who they are and what their powers do. So they just disappear from the only friends they thought they had. This book does have a lot of darkness in it, but also has a lot of good as you read about the struggles that Lorcan goes through during herself discovery. All the emotions This book was a very emotional read for me... Lorcan's pain is palpable and it left me torn and heartbroken at times. This is definitely darker than other books I usually read, but as always, the author does compensate that darkness with a set of amazing and protective men!

Emotional Absolutely amazing. Lorcan believes no one can love her after being abused for the past year or so but she’s wrong. So well written you feel like you are the one going through these things. Every book by m Sinclair I’m amazed by how well she becomes the character so excited to see where this series goes and where she goes as an author.

I absolutely loved this so much!! The writing style of M. Sinclair is one that I find myself enjoyed every damn time she comes up with a story. I believe she has found a fan for life. She's an accomplished violinist, model and socialite, but she is also an elf with the natural power to compel and the ability to see what others truly desire. People tend to obsess over her, and she has suffered for years at the hand of a monster who won't give her up. He subjects her to gruesome horrors, over and over again, using her immortality to his advantage. The hopelessness, pain and loneliness she feels leave her wishing for death and she resorts to self medicating to numb her way through life when she fails at suicide. Everything changes when she is called home to Arizona from L.A., and reconnects with her childhood friends. The bond with her five new guardians will challenge everything she thought she knew about her powers, finding love, and her ability to overcome. An interesting premise that kept me hooked despite the slow burn. I felt like the climax could have used a little more development but the cliffie at the end definitely had me scrambling for book 2, so that somewhat balances things out. Heartbreaking story. I had a bit of hard time reading Lorcan's story. She is going through a lot and has a self-destructive behavior. She uses drugs so many times and she uses so much. She has a wish to die, to leave for good because she doesn't think anybody can have genuine feelings towards her since she's a siren. Thankfully, five of her childhood friends are immune to her siren powers and their feelings for her is more than genuine. That ending was also so sad, when she finally says that she's happy, one of her nightmares comes back and kidnap her... I really can't wait to read book 2! Her men will definitely save her, that's for sure, but I want to see more happy moments between Lorcan and them.

I recommend this book ,especially to the souls that are brave enough to face their fears. It does end in a cliff hanger but the second book comes out September 27.

Wow what a book. I loved this book. It was really well done. The FMC was a horribly broken [email protected], with an awful backstory. Overcoming very dark themes.. (Rape, torcher, abuse) Other Characters were on point. Her brother, the guys, her "friends, the the villains. Each had there own distinct personalities...I found my self completely in love with everyone except the villains. They were very well done though you love to hate them. Story line was exiting and dark. With lots of suspense.. I really li Wow what a book. I loved this book. It was really well done. I will definitely continue with this series!!

If you’re looking for a Reverse Harem book different from all the rest, THIS IS IT! This story was filled with so many different mythical creatures and so many different personalities. Sinclair delivered a RH book that completely had me rooting for every single person in play and not just one. There was just the right amount of fluff, angst, horror, and smut to keep the story entertaining but not raunchy or boring. I cannot wait for the next book in this series! 3.5 stars, its enjoyable kinda feels like it takes a bit to get to the point but I'm still interested in the groups relationship its whats keeping me interested, I have read the second already and will for sure be checking out the 3rd (view spoiler)[ I have never really liked books where the main character is a Siren, idk why its just a personal preference, but that paranormal creature has never interested me. There is a bit of questioning for me on certain bits but I'm just stepping back and jus 3.5 stars, its enjoyable kinda feels like it takes a bit to get to the point but I'm still interested in the groups relationship its whats keeping me interested, I have read the second already and will for sure be checking out the 3rd (view spoiler)[ I have never really liked books where the main character is a Siren, idk why its just a personal preference, but that paranormal creature has never interested me. This book is a must read!!!!! What can I say about this book? Apart from just wow. Sinclair is one of my favourite authors and I think this book has become my favourite of all of hers. I love the characters and the build up between them all. The MFC is broken yet confident at the same time and I just love everything about her. The men in this book tick all the right boxes and I love the multiple point of views. Amazingly sad and beautiful I’ve been putting reading this off and now I want to smack myself because it was an amazing read. It was very heartbreaking. I shed a couple of tears for the Mc and her men? Amazing. I love them all and her twin is awesome. I really felt for the Mc and I hope she gets her happiness soon. Hope. This book was full of sadness and hope. An amazing read.

Such a heart wrenching and get beautiful tale Good this story had all the feels. It just sucks you in and breaks your heart again and again. But it's also filled with hope and romance and beauty. The guys are stellar and the potential in this harem will melt your kindle. A strong broken heroine who draws you into her right from the beginning. Even the side characters are engaging and meaningful. I can't wait to see what happens next.

    M. Sinclair is a phenomenal writer. The complex character or Lorcan... was done so beautifully.. gritty and dark.. but with a very sad and complicated reason. And also her twin brother Cormac. I thought it was just done so well. I am really blown away. The guys! Dean, Desmond, Adriel,Rhett and Cash! All wonderful in their own way. I can't WAIT to see what comes next!! I highly recommend this book!! Go get it now!!
