GUARDED is a suspenseful contemporary Christian story that I was pulled in to from the very first page. To be honest, I fell in love with the cover the minute I saw it. I loved everything about this mysterious story and I’m excited to recommend it to my reading friends. Sara Davison has a way of grabbing her readers and she never lets us go. Neither Nicole or Daniel are looking for a relationship, but they can’t seem to ignore their growing feelings. Nicole’s husband was killed seven years ago and it has left her broken hearted and raising her six year old son, Jordan alone. Daniel shows up one day and Nicole doesn’t know how she feels about that. He is the detective who was involved with what happened to her husband, Gage all those years ago. GUARDED is filled with twists and turns and had me staying up way too late one night to finish! I had to know where Sara Davison was taking us and what would happen to Nicole and Daniel. There is so much heart in Sara’s writing that I was left with a huge smile on my face and my heart very happy. I could totally see GUARDED becoming a Lifetime movie and I would love to see it. All of the characters are very interesting and believable, so much so that I felt as if I’ve known them for a long time. I kept wondering if Nicole would ever trust Daniel again after he kept a pretty big secret from her. I’m excited to read more of Sara’s stories! I received a complimentary copy of this book through Just Read Publicity Tours. All opinions expressed are my own and were voluntarily given.

This was a good sequel. I was happy to read about Daniel and Nicole again. I liked the storyline overall, but I did struggle a little with some of Nicole’s behavior and attitude. I was happy with the conclusion of this book. I look forward to reading the next book! I was given a complimentary copy of this ebook from the author, but was not required to write a review. The thoughts and comments are my own.

This is the first book I’ve read by Sara Davison. I was quite excited to read her book because I’ve been hearing such great things about this author’s work. Since I had not read Vigilant first, I had a hard time grasping the details from the first book that are pivotal foundation, both in plot and character development, in this book. There is definitely more romance than suspense and the plot is character-driven. There are funny and also endearing scenes in the book that will make the reader bond a little more with Nicole, Daniel, and Nicole’s son Jordan. Nicole is a difficult heroine to understand and her previous and present feelings for Daniel were hard to sort out. Daniel is a loyal and loving protector but I also had some trouble connecting with him. Introducing Troy and Mikayla as additional third person limited point of view voices confused me in the beginning but their roles became more clear as the story progressed. The series should be read in order to get the most out of the stories and characters. I received a copy of the book from the publisher via JustRead Publicity Tours and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.

I had no idea that there was going to be a second book and I'm sure glad there is! It didn't disappoint! I felt that this was more exciting than the 1st book! It was exciting and there was a lot of twists and turns. I was also happy to see Daniel is back! I always did like him. I thought he'd be the perfect partner for Nicole. There's a saying that you can run but not hide. I think this is the case for this awesome story. I have always said that secrets will come out in the end no matter what or how hard you try to hide them. And you can never hide anything from God. He knows all. I hate hiding anything from my partner but I know he hides a lot from me. Or he thinks he is. Not so. I decided a long time ago that I was going to let God handle his short comings. This was just an overall good book and I really loved it. I love Sara's works and I'm hoping for more from her. I highly recommend this book especially if you want action/adventure. The first half of Guarded is about Daniel and Nicole reconnecting and is heavier on the romance. Other than a light reference here and there, the suspense doesn’t really take hold until the mid-way point of the book. But when it does, it definitely pushes the pace of the story to full speed ahead. Guarded is about letting go of fear and trusting the ones you love, even when they do something to break that trust. There are a couple other points of view in the book, unclear at first how they connect to Nicole and Daniel. One I figured out easily and the other took a little longer, but I got it (before the characters did). Guarded is an enjoyable addition to the series, and the ending was more satisfactory for me than the previous book (I felt so bad for Daniel at the end of that one). With the sneak peek at book three, I’m looking forward to the next installment in 2021. Umm, why? Before I get all of the way into this review I should say that I did like the end half of the book, it was really good, and if the characters were more like that throughout the beginning of the book I would have enjoyed it so much more. I even liked Daniel a lot in the last quarter of the book but this was loosely a least favorite suspense since the lead guy, Daniel, was so so very pushy, I get that he thinks he loves the girl that married another man, her husband died, he felt guilty Umm, why? Why the hasty love? Why did Nicole fall in love TWICE so quickly when it seemed like she and Daniel knew so little about each other? Don't even get me started on how much I hated how Daniel WATCHED Nicole and Jordan BEFORE he even let her know he was back in town. (And a few crude jokes about how he could have sneaked in and been spying on her...) Just sick! And this is not very healthy behavior for a Christian suspense lead character. The one bright spot in this was Jordan, he's a cute kid, likable character, and sweet. I'm really sad to give such a low rating but I did really like the ending. As Nicole decides to take a chance on love, she's also begun to wonder just how long Daniel has been watching over her little family. While one part of her revels in his attention, another part of her feels concerned about why Daniel felt he needed to be their guardian--could there still be danger connected to her husband's illegal activities? Are they ever going to be safe? While Nicole begins to suspect strangers know more about her than they should, she has a choice. Does she trust Daniel or should she be suspicious of him? And what about that mysterious woman she met while visiting her husband's grave ? The questions left at the end of "Vigilant," the first book in the series, will be drawn out one answer at a time, but not before there's a little romance, laughter and of course, danger and suspense. Davison does a great job keeping the reader entertained, discussing relevant topics and delving into her characters' deepest secrets and fears. If you like cop drama shows or crime/suspense shows, you will love this book. The series is off to a great start and I can't wait to see how these characters continue to develop. I am grateful to have been an early reader, thanks to the author and publisher. All opinions are my own.

I encourage you to read Book One in The Night Guardians series first. Most of the main characters are introduced there, and their story picks up about six years later in this book. I enjoyed the lapse of time through the story as opposed to the way many books charge right through with everything happening in just in a few days. The story kept my interest with young Jordan, who was Nicole and Gage’s son, keeping everyone on their toes. I am not saying he was constantly into everything, but he had a sharp, active mind. His comments and questions often took Nicole by surprise, but then he could express an opinion that made the adults stop and think. His mother had done a great job with him and obviously had some excellent people in her life helping. He was an interesting little boy, without whom there probably would not have been much of a story. The story contains some great lessons on faith, trust, and new beginnings. Although Nicole had an exceptionally difficult time whenever she learned that information had been withheld from her, which I understand to some degree, I struggled with the way she handled those situations. I realize we all handle things differently, so her responses simply added to the suspense. I look forward to more stories from this author. I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher. I am a sucker for a good suspense, but what do you do when that suspense is way too predictable and has a leading couple that you find hard to root for? You dig deep to figure out what you loved about the story, so that's exactly what I did, and it wasn't hard to find what made me enjoy this novel: the supporting characters and the love and support of family. One character that captured my heart was Jordan, the heroine's sweet little six year old boy, who I absolutely fell in love with. His bravery and childlike faith was so awe-inspiring that it truly stole the show, and was the perfect balance to the angst that his mother was facing. I also loved how loving and supportive many of the other characters were. Having such strong support in the midst of hardship is so important, and though it wasn't a glaring theme in this novel, you can feel the support that both Nicole and Jordan have. I know that I'm supposed to love Nicole and Daniel, the two main characters, but they did not jive with me. Maybe it's because I haven't read the first book in the series (though this book can definitely be read as a standalone), but something didn't click with me. I know that Daniel is a cop, but his crazy stalker tendencies made me second guess his intentions. Call me a cynic, but I just wasn't feeling it. His relationship with Nicole is charming but lackluster for me, even though I could tell the author really wanted me to fall in love with them as a couple. In saying that, I do have to admit that the ending is pretty cute. Though incredibly predictable, the suspense was palpable, the writing is decent, and the love sweet, especially the love within the family. I craved more plot twists but I did love the happy ending and I am really looking forward to the third book in the series. *I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author through JustRead Tours. The writer did an excellent job of submerging this reader into their lives! Some of the writing was a little too stiff for me, some conversations didn't feel as natural as you or I would have with a friend. I felt like the use of strong vocabulary took some of the flow away, when simpler descriptive writing could have been used. But, like I stated before, I still felt for these characters, and flew through the book, needing to soak in the next page! Bonus! After reading the sneak peek chapter of the next book, coming next year, it's ALSO going onto my tbr list! Just that first sneak chapter had me full of anxiety again! Sara Davison has a new fan! When Nicole discovers Daniel is back in town its insta-love all over again. Neither one has been dating so the obvious idea everyone has is for them to reconnect. Cue tons of romantic feelings and inappropriate thoughts. "How was she supposed to get anything done when thoughts of Daniel kept pushing themselves into her brain?" The other part of this story starts with Troy Gibson getting out of prison and finally able to act on his revenge plot. Its a slow process, meant to scare Nicole, but he's used to biding his time and being patient. I read Vigilant (the Night Guardians, book 1) last year and really liked the main characters proactively standing up for their beliefs, either within the law or otherwise. I tried to put myself in their shoes, what would I have done? Book two revisits the same cast years later still dealing with consequences of their choices. I try to tell my daughters all the time that actions don't just effect the one doing it, but a whole slew of other people. I think Guarded really shows how a decision or an action can have far reaching effects. Is it realistic to stay in mourning for 7 years after only being married for a couple of days before a spouse dies? That seems like a LONG time. No dating, just grief. I've been married for 12 years now, I can see myself sad for a long time if my husband died. When we first got married my husband was fighting in a foreign country at war. I imagine if he would not have come home and left me a single mom, I wouldn't have waited seven years to reconnect with my ex-boyfriend. Requested from JustReadTours. Such a little kid with so much depth and insight, it was fun to see him stop the adults in their tracks with his wisdom but I loved his sincerity as a child he was one of my favourite characters. The secondary characters were also delightful. It was obvious that everyone cared about each other and I loved the support system Nicole had. The plot was definitely interesting. I received an advanced reader copy of Guarded as part of the launch team from the author for an honest review. Guarded is the second book in the Night Guardians series. I am loved the first book and couldn't wait for the 2nd and I was not disappointed. It started a little slowly but that didn't last long at all. Much suspense plus a very good storyline. I couldn't wait for the second book in the Night Guardians series and Guarded didn't disappoint. The plot was fast-paced and the romance was lovely. Romantic suspense aptly describes these books. I enjoyed the witty dialogue, and the realistic growing relationship between the main characters. Davison's writing is tight and her plot-lines unique. No formula writing here - there are always surprises and twists. I was fortunate to be an early reader thanks to the author. The review is my own.

A surprising sequel I really liked Vigilant, the first book of the Night Guardians series and A Taste of Heaven by Sara Davison, so I was prepared to enjoy Guarded as well. Whie it is not necessary to have that background because of the excellent manner in which Guarded ties in and stands on its own, it is better to read them in order to fully appreciate the events and the characters. A couple of additional story-lines had me wondering how they tied in. Chicago? Jail? Art? Huh? Yet I knew there was something to them. They would definitely tie in. And they did in amazing ways. The Chicago story took longer to “explain” itself and yet the timing was just right. And oh! It was so perfect!! I had already come to appreciate the characters from the first book and was so glad to see them return. I loved Jordan, Nicole’s tenderhearted, six-year-old son. His open and genuine care for those around him made him so endearing! The secondary characters were as much a joy as the primary ones. I loved the way Tom, Daniel’s friend, managed to give him relationship advice under the guise of not giving him advice. I was laughing, realizing before Daniel what was happening! Oh, and Shar, Daniel’s partner, was so fun with the way she was able to read him. He accused her of psychic powers at one point – in jest, of course! This was certainly one of the best examples of how to include the important details from a prior book in a series in a natural manner. If I had just read Vigilant, I would not have been frustrated with the recap. Though it has been half a year since I read it, I found that many details had stuck in my mind. And those that were buried deeper were nudged out of hiding with the little nuggets shared to jog my memory in just the right places. I highly recommend this book and this series to all lovers of Christian suspense! Read my full review at Among the Reads I was given a copy of this book. I was not required to give a favorable review nor was any money received for this review. All comments and opinions are my own.

This is a novel with romance, suspense, and faith intertwined with themes, to varying extents, of childhood trauma, reconciliation, healing, and forgiveness.  With the events of Vigilant surprisingly fresh in my mind, it was the characters that interested me the most, so I enjoyed the slow build of suspense in the background with short chapters interspersed with the occasionally fraught relationship growing between Nicole and Daniel.  And as part of that relationship between a widow and the man who has loved her all along, I appreciated having the temptations within their relationship acknowledged and addressed.   As to the speed of their relationship, and other aspects of their characters, I chose to simply take them in stride and just take it as part of the story as a whole.  Because this is, ultimately, a suspense novel and the mounting sense of dread building up to the climactic scene is drawn out at a pace that adds to the experience.  As with the first novel of this series, it is the culmination of all of the elements and the small surprises that make for an unsettling but satisfying read.   This is a series, best read in order, that I don't hesitate to recommend.  I’m looking forward to book three and can’t help but wonder if it will focus on a character that was mentioned in the first book and introduced in the second. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

Grey has loved Nicole since before she married Gage, he never stopped loving her, but after returning to their home town he keeps an eye on her and six year old Jordan to make sure that they are safe. At some point Jordan slips away from Nicole and Grey meets him at the park and is talking to him when Nicole finds them and a new relationship begins. Grey has a secret that he's been keeping from Nicole for these past seven years and he is now afraid to tell her what it is, but he has all good intentions for not telling her - he doesn't want her to hurt any more than she's already been hurt (you have to read the story to find out what the secret is). There were a couple of things that bothered me in the story. Nicole's love for Gage in this story isn't what I felt in the first story. Nicole was torn between Gage and Grey but chose Grey, not because she was madly in love with him, although she did love him, but she needed to make a choice and she chose him. Two days after they were married he was killed. In this story it is made out to be the love of a lifetime and I never got that feeling in the first book. I also didn't like how people tried to salve Nicole at the end of the story rather than being honest with her and telling her that she was overreacting to the situation and totally not acting like Jesus would want her to act. Grey finally tells her and she gets it - why didn't her family tell her the same thing days before? Because of these two things that kept me from loving this story, I gave it four stars. This is a clean read. Some heavy kissing and suggestive statements, but nothing overt.

Be still my heart. This one tugs at the heart strings. If you have ever had your heart broken by someone, you will understand the struggle to put a guard over your heart versus trusting again with the chance of another broken heart. I LOVED this book 2, which picks up 7 years after the end of Vigilant. And what a great sequel it is, even better. I was hooked from the beginning. Besides what is not to love when suspense and romance are combined. In this sequel, Nicole feels a fear begin to take over her life again and then she begins to receive odd gifts. What could it all mean. And as Daniel enters her life again she feels torn. Hopefully he can figure it out before it’s too late. But on the weightier matters of the heart, dare she risk to trust again. Between the suspense that ratchets up near the end and the pulling of the heart strings, this one will keep you up late. But so worth it. Some of my favorite quotes -Surprises were all well and good, but there was a fine line between the getting interesting and life spiraling out of control -have to admit I’m a little fun shy. What if I put everything on the line and lose her again?

Guarded is the first book I’ve read by Sara Davison and I’m looking forward to many more. In this book Sara has interwoven stories of second chances, forgiveness, and love, along with some well written suspense. A thread of Faith is woven through the story as each protagonist battles with letting go of past hurts and fears, and trusting God’s plan. Daniel has carried Nicole’s rejection for years. Is he strong enough to risk taking another chance? Nicole lost her husband due to secrets he carried. He died doing the wrong thing for the right reasons. Is she willing to take another chance on love? Along with the romance aspect of this book, the suspense had me guessing what was going to happen next, and who it was going to happen to. I was taken by surprise when the antagonist’s plan was revealed. I was given an ARC courtesy of the author through Interviews and Reviews, and this is my honest review. I recommend this book.

Guarded, book 2 of The Night Guardian series, is a Christian mystery/suspense romance novel by author Sara Davison. Book one ended with the death of Gage. Novels like Guarded by author Sara Davison always create quite the conundrum for me. At the first peak, I’m immediately drawn in and I want to know.
