“When I smell bacon, I am immediately in my grandmother’s kitchen. I picture my grandmother pouring coffee for my grandpa, and placing crisp bacon next to the over-easy eggs and roasted green chile on his plate. Food and its preparation, aromas, distinctive sounds, and the sharing of a creative talent in a nourishing medium will imprint our brains for the rest of our lives “When I smell bacon, I am immediately in my grandmother’s kitchen. Food and its preparation, aromas, distinctive sounds, and the sharing of a creative talent in a nourishing medium will imprint our brains for the rest of our lives. Small farm life in northern New Mexico is a centuries-old traditional way of life that has endured since before the Spanish settlements in the 1500s. The food, like the people, stems from a mixture of cultures, components, and traditions derived from the Spanish, the indigenous tribes of Mexico, and our neighboring Native American Pueblos. Liddie has captured these delicious and distinctive recipes in The Chile Line, so the culinary art — the ingredients and the preparation of these dishes — can be enjoyed and carried on by you and your family.” Be inspired by tradition: *86 easy-to-follow recipes featuring farm-to-table ingredients, and comprehensive prep techniques *Learn about the sensory experience of food, family, and a way of life *Make these recipes and share them with your family and friends — help maintain the tradition

As a non-New Mexican trying to learn New Mexican dishes and recipes...this was an amazing book to start learning! I loved how each recipe had its own insights. Simple and easy to follow recipes and also extremely flavorful and delicious. Highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys cooking and wants good New Mexican food. I’ve already made several of these recipes for friends and family and I will continue to do so.

The Chile Line: Historic Northern New Mexico Recipes by Liddie Martinez is not only my favorite cookbook for recipes but it also offers history of how families, including my family, lived and loved the beautiful way of life in the Land of Enchantment, New Nexico.
