The Siren and the Deep Blue Sea by Kerrelyn Sparks The 5th and final book in the Embraced series. Sweeping Fantasy romance. You definitely want to read the other books first to avoid spoilers. Maeve is the youngest of the girls raised on the Isle of Mist. Her four adopted sisters are all Queens of their respective lands (which we found out in each of the prior 4 books) and married to their predicted loves. Maeve is feeling a bit at loose ends. With her sisters busy with children and duties, Maeve just wants to find Brody. He’s been missing for months. She is worried and a bit lonely. Could he be in trouble or is he avoiding her because of his curse? Loved this fantasy series and a bit sad to see it end. This was a fantastic wrap up with a bonus secondary romance and most of the characters from the prior stories making cameos. A few happy tears at the end. So good.

The Siren and the Deep Blue Sea is the final book in The Embraced series by Kerrelyn Sparks. This one features the youngest sister, Maeve and our spy, Brody. This is a bittersweet end for me, but what a sweet and mystical journey it has been. I’ve loved almost all the books in The Embraced series. They have captured me with their magic and exploits. I have to point out the cover for The Siren and the Deep Blue Sea. I love it! It’s perfect for Maeve’s book. I’m also thrilled to finally be getting The Siren and the Deep Blue Sea is the final book in The Embraced series by Kerrelyn Sparks. This one features the youngest sister, Maeve and our spy, Brody. I have to point out the cover for The Siren and the Deep Blue Sea. I love it! It’s perfect for Maeve’s book. I’m also thrilled to finally be getting Brody’s story. Ever since book one I’ve wanted to know more about the spy who can only be human two hours a day. Sparks weaves another magical tail completing the overall arc and bringing peace to the realms. We are treated too many surprises along the way; especially the one about who Brody is and who Maeve’s parents are. I loved learning about both these characters and what happened to them and who they truly are. I would tell, but that will ruin the revelations and adventure. All I can say is many things come to light and you won’t be disappointed. Maeve and Brody’s romance is sweet and adorable. He’s been avoiding her except for one night a month when Maeve must turn into a seal. Now that things are coming to a head with the Chameleon and The Circle of Five these two find themselves together and putting all the cards on the table. No more hiding from the past or each other. The overall arc runs throughout the series and is completed here. We learn who the last two in The Circle of Five are and we learn who the Chameleon is. We also learning about the evil Embraced army and it will blow your mind that they aren’t what we have been lead to believe. All of our favorite characters throughout the series come together to finish the war that has been coming and end The Circle of Five. We see them work together and what happens at the end will have your emotions singing. We also meet a few new characters and a sweet side romance besides the main couple; Maeve and Brody. The Siren and the Deep Blue Sea weaves a sirens song. It’s entertaining, funny, romantic, a little sad, but most of all it’s a beautiful end to a magical series. **Note: You need to read the series in order. Book 1: How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days Book 2: So I Married a Sorcerer Book 3: Eight Simple Rules for Dating a Dragon Book 4: How to Love Your Elf Book 5: The Siren and the Deep Blue Sea Rated: 4.5 Stars

I want to be Embraced… There is something exhilarating about coming to the end of a book or series and knowing that everything has come together perfectly. I even downloaded it to my phone to get a little sneaky reading in here and there. So much sneakier than dragging around my big and cumbersome Kindle. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Kindle but it’s definitely my ‘at home’ device for reading. Anyways… I loved seeing all of the pieces fall into place and getting the shock of my life when the surprise unveiling of royalty took place. Knock me over with a feather, I did not see it coming. All of the royalty in this series are down to earth and very likeable. A little like the young English monarchy – they appear friendly, approachable, and almost normal. Sure, they have guards, servants, and minders, but they also appear to be willing to get their hands dirty. In this story, I think they are normal because they haven’t been hiding in their castles while someone else deals with problems. They have had to face and fight their enemies while also keeping their loved ones safe. I loved getting to know Maeve and Brody better… while they got to know each other better. It does take time for them to trust each other and the feelings that have always simmered between them. If anything, they’ve had to learn to trust that the feelings won’t disappear once all of their secrets have been exposed. Brody is not sure he wants Maeve to sacrifice her life with someone cursed. Maeve is sure that her family baggage will make him run for the hills. Communication is the key, and once it’s all out on the table they realise that their love for each other will conquer all obstacles. The second half of The Siren and the Deep Blue Sea was fast-paced, exciting and highly informative. Sure, stuff happened in the first half but I admit that it didn’t have my heart pumping as the second half did. I have really enjoyed reading The Embraced series. Their world was easy to imagine, the characters were original, lovable, and determined to bring peace, and the love stories were sweet. I highly recommend giving this series a try, but you must…start at the very beginning, a very good place to start. Stacey is Sassy, received an advanced copy of this story. All books have been heavy on story, world-building and character development and each one was an absolute pleasure to read. "Finally. After all these years, we will have justice…" You need to have read the previous four books from the series to understand everything that is going on in this one, Brody and Maeve have featured in all previous books as secondary characters that-said, because the books have all offered such depth and vivid story lines you know them almost as well as the characters each book was actually focusing on, although the author kept back some really great surprises for The Siren and the Deep Blue Sea. This story is the climax, the culmination of all the sub plots that have been playing out, the Aerthlan world has slowly started to embrace peace as each kingdom gains a new King & Queen and the enemies vanquished. But the Chameleon is still at large and not all of the enemies are known as yet. They’d come a long way from being orphans at the convent on the Isle of Moon… I’m not going to delve into the plot, it would risk giving spoilers and I think one of the things that has made this series so enjoyable for me was the discovery of each twist and turn as I was reading it and not because I’d found out beforehand. The humour, heart, heat and everything you expect from this author and this series are still very much included, and if like me you have had a soft spot for Brody since the beginning, you are going to love his and Maeve’s book. While it pushed the plot forward it was lacking. I’m not a fan of the naive virgin trope so Maeve was a bust for me as a heroine. While she is very idealistic and always does the right thing, she’s a very one dimensional character. Brody seemed more emotional and his actions seemed to be backed up by his development. The villain was utterly idiotic and it makes no sense that she was able to cause the chaos she did. Then being duped so easily by Maeve and Brody’s light manipulation. All in all very predictable light fantasy romance read.

What a wonderful conclusion to the series! I’ve been waiting for Brody’s story since book 1 and it was everything I had hoped for! The Siren and the Deep Blue Sea is the final story in the Embraced series. The story centers around Maeve, a selkie and the youngest of the Embraced sisters. Brody has missed their monthly swim twice, which has never happened before, and Maeve is certain something is wrong. When she hears that Brody is investigating a terrifying rumor that the Circle of Five has amassed an Embraced army to take over all of the kingdoms, Maeve determines to find him. When she hears that Brody is investigating a terrifying rumor that the Circle of Five has amassed an Embraced army to take over all of the kingdoms, Maeve determines to find him. Maeve knows this search will be difficult. Because of a curse, Brody can only remain in human form for two hours a day and must spend the rest of the day in a different form. However, Maeve’s journey leads her to the island of the infamous and evil Sea Witch, who is connected to Maeve and Brody in more ways than one. The couple must deal with the shocking secrets learned on the island, and they must defeat the Sea Witch if they ever hope to have Brody’s curse lifted. This is an epic conclusion to a wonderful series. In typical Kerrelyn Sparks fashion, the story is immersive with vivid detail, interesting characters, sharp dialogue, and a well-paced plot. I love that we finally learn more about Brody’s past and what led to his curse. I also love that Maeve and Brody finally were able to admit their feelings for each other. Maeve is a wonderful protagonist. Brave and fierce, she is tired of feeling left out. She wants to take charge of her life and her love, but she won’t sit on the sidelines and wait for something to happen. Connected by their mysterious pasts and their shifting abilities, Maeve and Brody have loved each other for years, but they both held back their feelings. You can feel the tension, longing, and unfulfilled desire in each of their interactions. Their love is palpable and makes for a deliciously intriguing read. I also want to comment on the other romance in the novel. Princess Elinor and Nevis are an unlikely yet completely perfect pair. Their awkward flirtations in the midst of some very intense situations are sweet and comical. To see Nevis, a man who is calm, cool, and collected under the most stressful of circumstances, stumble and fumble over Elinor, who, in turn, teases and flirts, endears me even more to their characters. The antagonists in the story are also dynamically developed, which makes their vile nature even more apparent. It is clear that the evil Circle of Five and the Chameleon are the antitheses of Maeve, Brody, and their friends. Cruel, heartless, and greedy, they will stop at nothing to gain power, even if it means hurting, using, and betraying people. I loved seeing all of the major characters from previous books work together to defeat the villainous threat that hangs over them all. In addition to the well-developed characters, the story is a fascinating page-turner. Filled with action and adventure, the story builds up to an epic showdown between good and evil. Shifters, dragons, betrayal, Embraced kids, curses, witches, and more add to the fantastical world and well-constructed plot. I can’t recommend this series enough! Thanks so much to Netgalley and Kensington Books for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

But all the books in these two series can also be read as stand-alones as the author’s segue is easy to follow. I have to say upfront, I loved the plot-line of this story. So many secrets and conflicts had me turning the page and unwilling to stop reading. Kerrelyn Sparks crafted a compelling story with dashes of humor that made it a boatload of fun to read. I only read one book in this series but the author’s segue was easy to follow and her writing style a pleasure to read. The main characters each had complicated back-stories and secrets hiding in their pasts, waiting to blow in their faces. The romance was in equal parts sizzling & funny. The side-characters were hilarious, making me laugh out loud numerous times from their witty comments. After I finished How To Love Your Elf, I thought for sure Kerrelyn Sparks couldn’t possibly top it but I was wrong. The Siren And The Deep Blue Sea was a delightful read with side-characters that left me grinning and satisfactory resolutions to all the stories in the Embraced and Embraced by Magic series. *Thanks to the publisher, Kensington Books and NetGalley for the ARC. https://nomadicworlds.wordpress.com/2020/08/18/arc-review-the-siren-and-the-deep-blue-sea-embraced-by-magic-2-by-kerrelyn-sparks/

Maeve is the last of the five orphaned sisters to find love and have the telling stones speak true. This is her story and the finale to hunting down the Circle of Five and the Embraced Army. The magic system is easy to follow in all the books. Occasionally it may seem things are a little too easy for the MCs but honesty this is fantasy romance and happy endings are almost always expected… almost. The world building is beautiful and simplistic. Set in a time of kings, queens, castles, islands and pirates. The best part is the characters. Each book is one of the five sisters finding their one true love and the battles they have with embraced powers and war struggles. The heroines are brave and sassy and Maeve is no different. I loved her persona just as much as the other sisters. Sparks did a wonderful job closing the chapter on these characters in this book. I even got a little misty eyed at the end. My only drawback was the ending seemed a tad rushed but not enough to take anything away from my enjoyment. If you like pirates, dragons, elves, magical powers, sirens and some sultry scenes. I HIGHLY recommend this entire series to you. Now if only each book had a similar cover scheme like the new ones, my shelves would be complete! Thank you Kensington and NetGalley for the advanced ebook copy. All thoughts are solely my own. One final note, the first three books I also listened to on audio. They are excellently narrated and I can still hear the accents in my head as I read the final two. Whether audio or physical, I am sure you’ll adore these girls as much as I did.

Maeve and Brody’s story is the crown jewel in the Embraced/Embraced by Magic series – if you haven’t read the previous books and you enjoy the fantasy/paranormal/magic sub-genre of Historical Romance – you must read this series – preferably in order starting with How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days – I loved this book and I highly recommend this series – you could read this book as a stand-alone title, but seriously, do yourself a huge favor and read all the books in order – it will just enhance the ending for you! *I am voluntarily leaving a review for an eARC that was provided to me by NetGalley and the publisher.*

Maeve is the youngest unmarried sister of five Embraced women on the Isle of Moon.  All of them grew up in a convent as sister but are not blood related as we find out Maeve's parentage in this book. All of her sister's had Embraced gifts and were married to Kings on different islands.  [I have not read the other books and didn't feel lost due to this which is great. But he also can't hide his adoration of her and she knows it. She forces her way into trouble, gets abducted, finds her parents, loses her parents, finds an Embraced Army, makes a lot of new friends, finds some new powers and might get some other types of actions (wink wink). I liked the two romances in this book.  Both male characters didn't think they were good enough for the females.  It was rather sweet and the ladies had to shake them a little to make them see reason.  I would say that Maeve and Brody weren't a slow burn but I don't know what they may have been doing in other books lol. I recommend for those who like fantasy adventure, intrigue and romance.

(ARC provided by NetGalley) This was a fantastic finish to this magical series. There was less humor and a slightly more serious story this time around, but the pace kept me engaged from beginning to end. Leo almost broke my heart a few times, but so glad he was finally able to enjoy some peace at the end. This is a fun, romantic fantasy series that was consistently entertaining from beginning to end.

This whole series has been amazing and just as great as Kerrelyn Sparks Love at Stake series. From the first book to the last I have become engrossed from the first page. Every single book has been a four to five star rating and this one is most definitely one of my favorites in the series. Maeve and Brody have stepped around each from years. Their chemistry has been potent from the beginning and it was a enjoy to see them come together at last. Brody has lived a hard life since the age of ten. He has lived with an interesting curse and doesn't believe he is worthy of Maeve. Maeve is stubborn and knows what she wants. She is definitely a character who beats to her own drum and is a great heroine. There is also a nice side romance that takes place, but it doesn't take away from the main story. This last book of the series ended wonderfully. I do suggest that one reads the series in order to enjoy the whole experience because there is a lager story arc contained within each romance. I can't wait to see what Kerrelyn Sparks rights next. She is always an auto by for me. I received this ARC via Netgalley and all opinions are my own.

I have read all the other books so I could easily follow along, but you might struggle a bit if you are coming in new. Highly recommend this series though, and have admired this author's work for a long time. Had a hard time putting this one down, and sad to see the series ending. Look forward to her next one to come.

The final book in the Embraced Series is one of the best. With many questions answered in regards to Brody and Maeve’s origins, and secrets revealed about other characters in the story it was a fitting end to a wonderful series. I highly recommend this book to all the fans of the Embraced.

I have been eager to read this installment of the series for a very long time, and now that it's finally here, it's bittersweet! I am so excited to have finally gotten the Maeve/Brody love story we've all seen coming, but I am sad that it signals the end of a wonderful series. Kerrelyn Sparks has a gift of weaving magic into every story she writes, not just in the subject matter but in the creation of characters that embed themselves in the hearts of readers. This book was an excellent comeback I have been eager to read this installment of the series for a very long time, and now that it's finally here, it's bittersweet! This book was an excellent comeback from the previous book as well, which I was really glad to see. The 4th book was one I didn't care for, and I thought I had lost my beloved author, but she is definitely back with this one. Reading it felt like old times again, and I'm so excited to see Kerrelyn hasn't lost her spark (pun intended). :) Maeve has loved Brody from afar from years, even though most of their interaction has not been while human. With the power to change into a seal, Maeve knows she is special, but she has never been sure of herself around Brody. They interact once a month when she turns into a seal and plays with him in the ocean, though she has never let on that she knows it's him. Brody is cursed to be trapped in the body of an animal, with only two hours of freedom allowed as a human each day. WIth such a bleak future ahead of him, he can only watch Maeve grow into a beautiful young woman and hope she can find happiness without him. When Brody disappears to hunt for the secret Embraced army, Maeve knows something is wrong. He's never gone this long without seeing her, and after no one takes her concern seriously, she takes matters into her own hands and goes searching for him. What she finds is much more than she bargained for, and it will take both her and Brody working together, and realizing their feelings for each other, to finally have their happily ever after. I loved Maeve and Brody, and I always have through each book. It was difficult at first to read about Maeve as the heroine this time, because I always thought of her as a young girl, but in this book, you see her as a grown woman with all the passion and strength that goes along with it. Brody was a wonderful secondary character, and readers loved him, but this was the first book where we got to truly see him as his own person and learn his backstory. And what a backstory! Both he and Maeve had amazing stories to explain who they were, and I think they actually have the most interesting histories of all the Embraced books. I never would have thought that they came from...where they came from...and how entwined their lives were from the very beginning. Maeve grew up so much over the course of this book, and for Brody to see how much she meant to him, it was utterly romantic. A perfect way to end the series. Whatever Kerrelyn Sparks writes next, know that I will be one of the first in line to get my hands on it. I have been a fan for a very long time and will remain one. Highly recommended to all! **I received a free copy via NetGalley and this is my honest review.**

I am happy that I had the chance to read this series, but also sad that it came to an end. This is the story of Maeve and Brody and it concludes the long journey of the five embraced sisters from the abandoned and scared little girls to happy and fulfilled women that won their much-deserved happy ending. I was intrigued from the first book in this series with Brody’s character and I hoped his match was the little sister, Maeve and it was. Brody is the silent, secretive type of guy, simply perfect for the spy position and Maeve is a sweet and stubborn girl that wants to help her sisters and the man she loves. The character development of her was so incredible, you could just see her growing through the previous books. She was fearless in this book. Their relationship has a difficult start with Brody trying to protect by keeping her in the dark and away for all the secrets that surround him, but without success. Maeve is just as determined to help him break his curse and finding the last of the Circle. As the book progress all the secrets are revealed, and all the mysterious plotters are unmasked. The ending is perfect for this couple and for all the characters in this series. There was a lot of action, as is usual for this series, with familiar characters joined by some new and interesting ones. “The Siren and the Deep Blue Sea” is well-written, grabs your attention from the get-go, and takes you along on a wonderful romantic, action packed adventure with funny moments and strong believes in good versus evil! I highly recommend this book, series, and author.

I’ve loved the embraced series since I read the first book. And this is the book I’ve been eagerly awaiting - Brody and Maeve. Brody has been the unsung hero of this series. He’s been behind the scenes working tirelessly to defeat the bad guys and gets no credit. Maeve is the youngest of the sisters, close to all of them but since they are all married, she has less in common now. It was a feeling she’d struggled with since childhood. Not that she was ignored. Her sisters had doted on her as the baby of the group. But it had always been clear that the eldest two, Luciana and Brigitta, were the best of friends. And the next two, Gwennore and Sorcha, were equally close to each other. Maeve was always the baby. The fifth wheel. And now she felt even more left out. Her sisters and their husbands had become an exclusive group she could never join. As Brody investigates the witch who cursed him, Maeve sets off own her own adventure to find out more about her parents. Their paths intertwine and Brody isn’t going to let Maeve go. It’s a wonderful conclusion to a great series. It was great seeing all the characters one last time and I am so happy Brody finally got his happy ending. Sneaky Brody - he’s been in every book and still has secrets. Oh and I laughed so hard at the fate of the Chameleon. It was perfect.

"You should let the men do it." She shrugged. "The men are too afraid. I am not." The epic finale to "The Embraced" romance fantasy series. I loved Maeve's strong will and determination to help Brody. She refuses to be left out once more. Her sisters, the queens, have kept Maeve in the dark long enough, but that won't stop her. For once, she's going after the man, not waiting for him to save her. Also, the romance dynamic is quite refreshing for the series, considering our lovebirds already liked each other. The side romance in this book was also the best out of the others. Nevis deserved a happy ending as well after working so hard since the first book. It was beautiful to see everything tied neatly together after so long. ARC provided by Netgalley and the publisher.

-- Read this review, and others, on my blog at www.hookedbythatbook.com -- This is book five in the series The Embraced. I didn’t read the other books before this one, and I found that it didn’t matter that much, but I’m guessing there is a lot that I have missed out on in this world. There is a lot going on with Maeve trying to find the Isle of Secrets, and then discovering who her parents really are. The powers everyone have access to are interesting and varied, and I think they are applied well in the story. I especially liked Elinor’s power. And even though things developed a bit fast between Nevis and Elinor, I really enjoyed their flirting. I was disappointed in Cahira and her Embraced army, for all the fear that she instilled in everybody. I wasn’t very taken with the writing style, and it seemed a bit stilted at times, but that did not stop me from enjoying the book. I really couldn’t put it down. Thank you to Kensington Books and Netgalley for providing me with an ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
