Got a chance to read this early, and I must say that it was SO worth it! This book is full of soft and cozy vibes (which says a lot from me who HATES winter), the art is lovely and vibrant, and Sofia herself is an endearing character. And of course I would finish reading the 50th book for the year on my birthday, hah.

The Snow Dancer by Addie Boswell. Illustrated by Mercè López. Children’s fiction. Kindle Edition. Expected publication: 01 December 2020. 4 Stars. A quiet girl’s venture into a silent Snow Day, the sacred hush of city sounds later broken by other kids at the park as she joins in with a festive spirit and makes a new young friend. With charming and happy illustrations sure to make your children smile. Highly recommend!

First Reads Kindle selection for November 2020. A picture book that captures the joy children feel on a snow day – all about freedom, movement and tracks left on newly fallen snow, when the world is hushed. Sadly, not much plot, but nice illustrations.

Magical vibrancy This is a gorgeous picture book that sparkles on every page. I believe the message to be that there is magic in everything and it is what you make of your situation that makes it. The illustrations are full of graceful, whimsical, playful motion. Sofia is a girl who inspires magic. She sees the world around her and is transported. Others around her feel it and are brought in tow. Highly recommended for anyone who is human.

I won this book in a goodreads drawing. On the first snow day of the season, a girl dances through the silent snow. Not much of a plot, but the illustrations are good.

At first I went with a four star rating because it was a nice little story, but didn't have a huge impact or make me love it. I had to bump it up to five stars though, because however quietly it resonated, I'm left with the impression this is my childhood but a better version. It's a version it might have been helpful to be presented with at the time, a way to adapt instead get frustrated and give up. I might not love this book intensely, but I did oddly connect with it. Oh, friends, sometimes you come across a book and it’s just filled with all the wonder and magic of youth that it makes your heart want to burst. A Dance of Snow-Day Joy The author and illustrator of this book have perfectly captured the fun of a snow day for school-aged kids. Even the text is fun in places, using different fonts, colors, and sizes—with some words having added extra characters to make them “read” longer. I love how the illustrator got across a true sense of what a weak winter sun looks like. A fun book for kids who loved to play—and perhaps dance!—in the snow. I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review. My book blog: https://www.readingfanaticreviews.com

A lovely wintery book about a young girl who dances in the silent snowy park before all the city noises begin. Great links to PE with the description of all her different movements. Children could also think about music, creating their own sounds to accompany the boom at different points such as when it is snowing but the city is silent, when all the children are playing and when the city noises begin. Ahhhhh...the snow! This Florida girl just adored experiencing the snow through Sofia's eyes. This book is beautifully illustrated. It starts when Sofia wakes up to find her city covered in snow, and she creeps outside to be the first to enjoy it! The onomatopoeias in this book were outstanding. My kids loved hearing them as I read out loud and they really added to the book. Sofia proceeds to dance threw the snow, she is then joined by other children and they have a ball in the snow! Nostalgic beautiful story This is a magical story about beautiful, virgin snow, and the wonderful delight of a girl dancing through the quiet whiteness making beautiful designs in the snow. Then lots of children come and join in joyful play and snowballing. The pictures are exquisite.

Great new children's book! Thank you, Addie Boswell and Merce Lopez, for a beautiful addition to the world of children's literature! Addie's words convey the amazing world of a child who truly enjoys dancing her feelings. She has obviously been trained a bit, but all dancing is a wonderful game to her. With the addition of a magical white world for a stage it becomes an unforgettable adventure. I love the bond your heroine forms with a much younger child. It is the illustrations that make the book wondrous, however. As lyrical as the writing is, young children love books first for their pictures and the love of the person who reads to them. These illustrations are perfect for the book. You two are worthy of Caldecot consideration with this book, and I hope you get that, although the committee may find it too similar to a much earlier winner by Ezra Jack Keats. Your lovely book at least deserves a place beside "The Snowy Day" on a child's bookshelf.

Sophia wakes up to silence. Her world has been blanketed by snow and no one is moving, no cars, no buses, no people. Sophia jumps out of bed and exclaims, “Snow Day!”. She makes her way to the park making the first footprints in the snow and when she gets there, she decides it’s the perfect place to dance. She has the whole park to herself and she is relishing in the silence. She dances a whole ballet in the silence of the park. Until….all the other kids realize it’s a snow day. The writing is lyrical and the illustrations give the reader the idea of a perfect snow day. The descriptions of the first footsteps in the snow and how everything is silent around you after a storm almost make me ready for our first big snowfall here. That first big snowfall is truly a magical experience and Boswell has created the joy of a snow day in this story.

This lovely ode to the joys of untouched snow shows a young girl's excitement as she dresses up and heads outside. She dances through the snow making all kinds of delightful sounds. The fun ends with a snowball fight. The illustrations and text blend beautifully to create a magical tale of imagination and physical exertion. The sounds of sliding and shuffling and crunching make the book a fun one to read. This would be a thoroughly engaging book to read with children, followed by an adventure in the snow.

An absolutely charming book... I was first struck by how charming and clean the illustrations were. Beautifully cool with all the colors of winter, it is a lovely book visually. The story is just as magical as the illustrations are. A sweet tale of a different kind of snow day that then melds with what we traditionally embrace on those wondrous days out of school. I think it would make a fantastic gift for that tiny dancer in your life. I loved it and can't wait to share it with the kids in my fa An absolutely charming book... I first received this book as a free Kindle book with my Amazon Prime membership. After reading it there, I ordered a paper copy for my little great-granddaughter. The book is enchanting. The artwork is beautiful and colorful. Sofia wakes up to a winter wonderland. "Snow day" she shouts and runs out to enjoy the silence. A bunch of other children show up and the silence is ended, but Sofia runs and plays with them. She shows a new friend, a little girl, how to dance in the snow. Beautiful story with gorgeous illustrations I didn’t quite know what to expect but had much fun reading this with my two girls. The pictures are delightful and the variety and choice of descriptive words is simply beautiful. We had so much fun making he noises of the dancer in the snow and although it’s designed for an American audience it’s still resonates and warms you of childhood memories playing and dancing in the snow. It’s a little like a fairytale for winter and we loved it!

Beautiful story and illustrations I’m an adult and got this for myself to see the watercolor illustrations. The story is sweet and feels inclusive of all children. It’s about a little girl who wakes up to a snow day off of school! The description of the peace of fresh snow and your imagination is wonderful. There are some lessons in sharing and kindness and simplicity which are very welcome right now.
