THE ESCAPE by Lisa Harris is the first book in the US Marshall series. It is a Christian action adventure suspense novel that moves quickly between the states of Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado and Texas. Two US Marshalls are assigned to a prisoner transport from Seattle to Denver when their plane crashes. What follows is a week of non-stop suspense, stress, and action. Madison James and Jonas Quinn are the protagonists in this novel. Both are US Marshalls and the point of view switches seamlessly back and forth between them. They are easy to like and root for, and were credible and relatable. The author does a good job of giving them depth including flaws and virtues. While Madison was a strong protagonist in a lot of ways, there were occasions when I felt she should have been portrayed more strongly and less in need of help. The secondary characters are not as well-developed in this first novel, but they enhanced the story. Hopefully, some of them will get more depth in the next book in the series. The world-building was great and ranged from rugged and remote backcountry to busy airports. The internal and external conflicts were well defined and were organic and believable; arising out of characterization and circumstance rather than feeling forced or contrived. I also learned about the US Marshall Service and their fugitive investigations and how they work with other law enforcement agencies. The author weaved this into the story line without detracting from the flow and action. Overall, this was an action-packed and entertaining novel with the hint of a future romance that kept me fully engaged. The story was compelling and a great start to a new series. I highly recommend this to those that enjoy action-packed suspense stories. The expected publication date is November 3, 2020. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. Revell and Lisa Harris provided a complimentary digital ARC of this novel via NetGalley. This is my honest review. Opinions are mine alone and are not biased in any way.

This may have not been my favorite by the author, but it was still suspenseful and interesting. I was happy to notice that there was a lot less awkwardly timed romance parts in this novel. (An example of what I mean would be the one you see often in romantic suspense books of “we just finally caught the bad guy and now we kiss!” *cue fade to black screen*. There was one moment I wanted to tell Madison and Jonas, “hey, eyes on the stake out! not each other!”, but only one moment compared to the book being filled with them, was a nice change of pace. This is probably due to this being the first book of a series.) I wish there had been a more faith content, but I enjoyed the discussion about being called to be in the law enforcement field that Madison and Jonas had. “The Escape” was a good suspense book and I look forward to reading the rest of the series as they release. Your adrenaline will be pumping as your read about elaborate schemes, kidnapping, terror and danger. Who can you really trust to tell you the truth when you question others? Are they just pacifying you with the answers you want to hear while actually reporting back to the hunted one? I literally could not put this down and read it in one day, just one more chapter turned into a night of reading. Adrenaline junkies you'll find your fix here! I liked the slow burn in the romance as well between the marshals too, nothing rushed. She is still mourning the death of her husband and he's still getting over a breakup. They are letting God direct their actions and healing slowly and naturally but you can feel a spark will ignite in a future book in the series. The Escape was an exciting book and I look forward to continuing this series. Pub Date: 03 Nov 2020 I was given a complimentary copy of this book. Thank you. All opinions expressed are my own.

This prisoner was an especially bad dude, too. I was completely fascinated by the office of the US Marshals. The authors goes into detail about their roles and I was so interested that I looked them up on my own. I learned a lot and so glad I read this book. Great story with plenty of twists and suspense. But a cliffy! ugh!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This book has all the makings of a great story. Suspense, police procedures, and maybe even a little romance with the two characters that were thrown together in a fast and furious chase across many states. But the romance was not to be. At least not yet. The author drew the interest between these two out further and further, much to the frustration of this reader. But Harris caught my attention with the chase. There were so many great areas of suspense. From one locale to another, she keeps you on your toes. Crime sprees and mayhem created a frantic rush to find the escapee with plenty of plot twists to keep the reader engrossed. I finished this one in one sitting! Plus with the added plotline surrounding the death of Madison’s husband, and strange occurrences happening to her, the story was captivating and gets your heart rate up there a bit. While I was looking for more between these two characters, we are left hanging with a small cliffy that leaves you wondering. The romantic interest is growing between them, but this is just the beginning of this series. I am seriously hoping more will be developed as the next books come out. They are a fabulous team and you just know the sparks will be flying. Madison and Jonas are just ripe for some hot combustion! For some great action, suspense, and the love of cop fiction, The Escape is a terrific read! * copy received for review consideration Full Review - https://amidlifewife.com/the-escape-b...

Lisa Harris kicks of her latest suspense series with her usual bang. High impact and constant chills fill this story from start to finish. Both had been through tragic relationships and were still recovering. I love books like this! My favorite is Jonas! And next of course is Madison. They're each trying to heal from their losses and it's not easy. Grief can suddenly hit you in your tracks when you least expect it that's for sure! I think we can all relate to these characters in that regard. It's never easy to lose someone no matter what the case may be. Harris describes the scenes so well! Makes me feel like I'm watching a movie only the book is so much better! Besides, I love using my imagination too. That's so much fun! I definitely enjoyed this adventure! I was sad to see this adventure end but on the positive note, I'm glad there's going to be another Madison book! I'm so glad that this wasn't the only book that is going to be written for I had a feeling that it wasn't the end of Madison's story. I would've hated to see her drop off so suddenly. The Escape is a great start to the US Marshals series. As it starts, it is the anniversary of the murder of the husband of US Marshal Madison James. Someone has been leaving a black rose on his grave but this year someone leaves a black rose on her bed. On the same assignment, US Marshal Jonas Quinn, newly operating from the Seattle office, is making the trip. Quinn trained Madison when she was first in the Marshals service so they are acquaintances. The unthinkable happen when the small plane goes down over Idaho, killing the two pilots and one of the prisoners while the marshals survive and one prisoner escapes. The two marshals along with other law enforcement officers chase the prisoner across three western states and eventually to Texas. What a slippery person he turns out to be, charming women from the past to help him, taking hostages and advantage of anyone he can bringing danger and harm in his path. Madison is still dealing with her husband's death and Jonas has his own demons to deal with but the two connect on a level that they hadn't with others as they fight their way to bring the prisoner in and stop his escapade. Action packed with danger, twists, turns and likable, realistic characters, and faith, I highly recommend this entertaining read. Although the subject is by far from original, the author has put quite a personal spin into her story. Things turns deadly along the way but no fear the two officers of the law quickly put their heads together and find a way to catch this slimy prisoner and bring him back to where he belongs…but achieving this goal becomes quite a challenge….and is very captivating for us to follow them. The story presents a sidebar and is a real teaser: a black rose is left annually on the anniversary of Madison’s husband’s murder. Who is behind this act, can it be the killer and the one who was never brought to justice….This remains an unsolved and unresolved case at the end of the book leaving us believe it will spring up again sometime. No doubt, this story is action-packed and is a page-turner. Well- written to captivate from the opening pages and holds you there till you reach the conclusion which ends in a cliff-hanger, of course, setting the stage for book #2. The characterisation is believable. The chase for Damon, a bit far-fetched but the exciting narrative makes up for all its faults. Well-done. Just when I thought I was reading the last chapter for the night something else happened and I had to find out what happened next. Needless to say some sleep was lost but that is totally okay with me. In this story we meet Madison James and Jonas Quinn. In their own personal lives they are both on a journey of healing. Madison is healing from the death of her husband and trying to come to terms at the lack of information on who killed him. Jonas is healing from a breakup. I love how they both are letting God take control and direct their paths with each other. This is definitely a slow burning romance and I loved it. It made it more real that it wasn't a rush to get there but you know it will be something that we see blossom in the next book. In that U.S. Marshall, Tommy Lee Jones and his team chase Harrison Ford, who they suspect has murdered his wife. Harrison Ford is a smart man and stays one step ahead of the Marshalls, just like in this novel. U.S. Marshal Madison James and Jonas Quinn are brought together in an effort to track down high-profile prisoners. It should have been an easy transfer transporting two prisons across county in a private plane. But things turn deadly along the way. When Madison and Jonas get their bearings, they quickly work together to find a way out of this impossible situation. This is an action filled page turner that leaves you wanting more. This is the first book in the U.S. Marshall series. The author leaves readers with an intriguing mystery hanging for book two. It is to find out who’s made things personal for Madison by leaving a black rose for her to discover on the anniversary of her husband’s death. Looking forward to the next book in this series, no doubt heading for more suspense and danger. This book would work well for your next book club meeting. Marshall, she is still grieving the senseless murder of her husband five years before. She’s dated occasionally over the years, but her heart was never in it. Every year on the anniversary of his death, she would visit his grave, and every year she would find a black rose left there. This year she did not go to the grave site, but coming home after her morning run she found a black rose on her bed. She doesn’t have time to deal with that though, as her boss calls her in to help transport two prisoners from Seattle to Colorado. She is partnered with Jonas for the flight. When Madison was training to be a Marshall, Jonas was her instructor, but their acquaintance never went beyond that. Like Madison, Jonas is focused on work and has no interest in dating or relationships, especially with a co-worker. He’s been down that road before, and it did not end well. The plane carrying them to Denver crashes in the Idaho wilderness, and this is where the book really took off. Both pilots and one of the prisoners are killed in the crash. The other prisoner, Barrick, facing a life sentence for murder, manages to escape, and Madison and Jonas are determined to hunt him down. I sailed through this intense book in two days, despite my full time job. The descriptions of the land, the forests, the river, are vivid, as Madison and Jonas hunt the prisoner, who sometimes hunts them. There are lots of near misses, with Barrick somehow managing to stay two steps ahead. The action is non-stop, and I never knew what to expect from one chapter to the next. The wilderness aspect only lasts for about half the book, and then they are back in civilization, with other law enforcement officers involved in the man hunt, but I was just as riveted, and stayed that way until the very end. This book is part of Revell’s romantic suspense line, but there’s much more suspense than romance. As Madison and Jonas work together, they learn more about each other, and come to admire each other, but neither is looking for romance, and they don’t have time for those kind of thoughts regardless. However, I did expect the two Marshalls to come to term with and admit their feelings at the end, and I was not prepared for the book to end on a bit of cliff hanger! The story line with Barrick is thankfully wrapped up, but the mystery of those black roses still needs to be solved, and there is no happily ever after, or even a happy for now, leaving me very eager for the next book in the series.

Two US Marshalls are assigned to transport a prisoner from Seattle to Denver when their plane got crashed. What follows is a week of mystery, stress, and action. Madison James and Jonas Quinn are the two main characters in this novel. Both are US Marshalls and the perspective switches flawlessly to and fro between them. They are easy to like and pull for, and were valid and relatable. The writer works admirably in giving them depth including imperfections and temperances. While Madison was a solid character from multiple points of view, there were events when I felt she ought to have been depicted all the more firmly and less needy of help. The secondary characters are not so well evolved in this first novel, but rather they upgraded the story. Ideally, some of them will get more profundity in the following book in the series. The world-building was extraordinary and gone from tough and remote backcountry to occupied air terminals. The inward and outer clashes were all around characterized and were natural and conceivable; emerging out of characterization and situation instead of feeling constrained or contrived. I additionally learned about the US Marshall Service and their criminal examinations and how they work with other law implementation organizations. The writer weaved this into the story line without taking away from the stream and action. all in all, this was an action packed and engaging novel with the trace of a future romance that kept me completely locked in. The story was convincing and an extraordinary beginning to a new series. I truly recommend THE ESCAPE to those who like action packed novels and stories. I can’t wait to peruse the following book in the series. Website : https://gobookmart.com/the-escape-by-... The Escape is a real page-turner! Here are three reasons why Lisa Harris's new series will jolt you out of your reading slump: 1. NON-STOP ACTION. While trying to apprehend Barrick, US Marshals Madison James and Jonas Quinn discover they are facing a formidable adversary. Envisioning himself as a wrongfully accused man, Barrick employs cunning, charisma, and old connections to elude custody—at times flipping the tables on the Marshals and making them the mark. The non-stop action, compressed timeline, and hooks at the end of each chapter really propelled me through this book. 2. BACKSTORY.  The author provides a compelling backstory for both of her main characters. Each has lost someone important to them in the past and are therefore hesitant to open themselves up to any sort of romantic relationship—especially with a co-worker. Is this a romantic suspense novel? Sort of. There's definitely plenty of chemistry and Harris leads readers to believe there's more to come as the series unfolds. (Slow-burn romances are my favorite!) 3. THERE'S MORE TO THE STORY and book 2 will be worth waiting for if it will give us some answers. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Fans of suspense with little to no romance will enjoy this latest book by Lisa Harris. This fast-paced book was filled with action and gave readers a look into some of the responsibilities of US Marshals. The mystery mentioned in the beginning of the story carries through into a cliffhanger at the end of the book, while this book focuses mainly on a separate storyline. It seems like our heroine will also play a starring role in book 2 of the series. Because we want to see good thrive and justice reign.” ** Lisa Harris draws us into the world of the US Marshals with “The Escape,” an action-packed romantic thriller featuring a game of cat and mouse. When Madison James and Jonas Quinn, who briefly trained together several years ago, are placed together as partners in a prisoner air transport, their lives spiral into chaos and danger. While transporting two prisoners, their plane crashes. One prisoner survives and Madison and Jonas are forced to search for him in the forests of the Northwest. What follows is an intense story, filled with harrowing and deadly experiences. And as both Madison and Jonas must deal with overcoming losses of loved ones, they find themselves more and more attracted to each other. “The Escape” is filled with the attempt to locate missing prisoner Damon Barrick before he can kill again, but it also contains a background mystery as Madison attempts to discover who killed her husband five years earlier — and who keeps leaving her black roses on the anniversary of his death. Harris does an incredible job of building a frantic plot, all while creating intriguing characters. She also fills “The Escape” with some great themes, like overcoming loss and dealing with grief; the want for a fresh start; relying on our faith in God; how to we stop unfair things from happening; and defending justice while not skewing toward revenge (“There is a razor-thin edge between justice and revenge, where the two easily blur if left unchecked.”) Fans of Lynette Eason, Irene Hannon, Terri Blackstock, Sandra Orchard or Janice Cantore will love this novel. “The Escape” does end on a bit of a cliff hanger, the story not fully resolved, so I’m looking forward to the second book in the series. Five stars out of five. Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group, provided this complimentary copy through NetGalley for my honest, unbiased review.

They both have a complex past that you find out more as the plot thickens. The story does turn into a romance but it’s a slow realistic relationship that forms. The other main character Damon Barrick and he is the fugitive on the run after the plane crashes while they are transporting two prisoners. Damon is a charmer, intelligent, and knows how to improvise while on the run keeping himself just ahead of the US Marshals. The plot and locations in this story are intriguing. They are on the go throughout the wilderness and into big cities on the tail of Damon. It makes for a lot of suspense throughout. There is an interesting back story that emerges. Ever since the death of Madison’s husband 5 years ago she receives a black rose on the grave but this year the black rose is found in her house on her bed. This mystery starts to unfold throughout the main plot but not solved. Hopefully it will come to light in the next book in the series. Another wonderful book from Lisa Harris and now the hard part is waiting for the next book in the series. I received a free copy of this product from Revell in exchange for my honest review. Over a period of one week, Madison James and Jonas Quinn maneuver dangerous terrain and travel across several states, as they feverishly work to prevent Damon Barrick from killing again. They also find that their reliance on each other has added a new element to their professional relationship. Are they experiencing something that might prove to be their biggest challenge yet? Harris has an unique talent for creating scenarios that seem impossible but she always makes them work. She also creates realistic characters that we all can relate to. Both Madison and Jonas have suffered painful losses and neither of them are looking for another personal relationship, but yet, they still seem so perfect together! How can they not accept the happiness that could be waiting for them? The Escape is the first book in Harris's new series and I'm so excited to see what is next in this US Marshals series! If you love heart-pounding adventure and romantic suspense with a faith element woven throughout the story, you will want to read The Escape. I guarantee that you won't be able to put it down! I received a copy of this book from the publisher but I was under no obligation to provide a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

One of the prisoners, Paul Riley, dies in the crash; the other, Damon Barrick, escapes. Desperate to disappear, Barrick will do anything to remain free but the marshals are determined to re-capture the fugitive. Can they find the elusive prisoner before he puts others in danger? Believable characters, a strong sense of place, and a compelling plot make this an action-packed, exciting narrative. The cat-and-mouse chase between the marshals and the escaped prisoner keeps the suspense building while the continual tension underlying the telling of the tale and the hint of romance keep the pages turning in a book readers will find difficult to set aside. A side story involving a black rose and the killer of Madison’s husband some five years earlier plays a part in this story but remains unresolved at the end of the book. A short opening of what appears to be the second book in this series follows “The Escape,” but readers who are not fans of cliffhangers are likely to be disappointed with the questions left unanswered. What a great start to the US Marshals series! This book follows US Marshals Madison James and Jonas Quinn as a routine prisoner transport ends in a plane crash that allows one of those prisoners to escape. The main story line though, is full of action and suspense as they keep finding themselves one step behind the esaped prisoner. The character development in this book was excellent. Both Madison and Jonas were relatable characters who grew throughout the book. They were likable and both had faith. Though the faith thread was a bit more subtle in this book than in some others by this author, it was definitely still present. I also enjoyed the twists and turns, waiting to see how they were finally going to catch him. There was a fair amount of edge-of-your seat action as well. All in all, an enjoyable story line. The ending, while satisfactory for this story, has opened up doors to the rest of the series and I can't wait to see what happens next! I actually liked this cat-and-mouse chase story. Sometimes these can be redundant and make it seem like the good guys are stupid… but, I absolutely loved that the criminal was so smart. It did occasionally drag the slightest bit when the Marshals were stumped again, but maybe that was just because I wanted them to catch the guy. This was not as suspenseful as some books I’ve read, but the pace was good. I’m beginning to appreciate the way Lisa Harris handles romance. They do have feelings, but they’re not top priority for the story. The Christian message was in the book, but it didn’t stand out to me as super strong. The characters were Christian and were not ashamed to speak of their faith so that is a plus point. I don’t often read the “chapter preview” for the next book, but I totally did for this one. I was so not ready to leave Madison and Jonas where they were left. So in other words, I’m looking forward to book two. *I received this book from Revell and happily provided my honest review*

Then one day a black rose is placed inside her home - lying on her bed. Madison comes from a long line of law enforcement men. She has a younger sister and is very protective of her. It has been 5 years since her husband's death. She is thinking about moving and starting anew. Jonas Quinn came back to the Seattle area and Madison and Jonas became partners. In past years Jonas was Madison's trainer in basic training. Jonas knows that Madison will be a great partner because of her strong work ethic. They were assigned a case where they would transport 2 dangerous criminals. There would be 2 pilots, 2 prisoners and Jonas and Madison. On the flight they encountered a violent thunderstorm and the plane crashed. The pilots die and one of the prisoners dies, but one escapes. The escaped prisoner give Jonas and Madison so much problems - every time they think they will catch Damon Barrick, he slips away. If you are ready for quite an adventure, then this book is for you. Danger is lurking everywhere as they search for Barrick. Jonas is reeling from loving someone that did not want to stay in the relationship. As you read you will see why this happened. Madison is having a hard time getting over her husband's murder. There is some Christian element in this book, but not a lot so I do believe that a lot of readers will appreciate the author's writing.
