It's a little bit challenging right now because doctors and dieticians disagree so strongly on what foods are helpful and harmful. I am reading a handful of health and diet books right now that are all written by respected doctors or trained dieticians, and they are so wildly different in advice. One says keto will protect your brain, the next two say to avoid full-fat dairy, the next says that full-fat dairy is healthy as long as it's from properly raised cows, and so on. I take it all with a grain of salt (yes, they can argue about whether I can do that, too) and mostly stick to a diet high in fresh vegetables, fruits and other plants high in fiber, healthy fats, and limited sugar and processed foods. This goes along with that well. The diets she recommends are a combination of MIND and DASH diets -- lots of vegetables, berries, nuts and seeds, a little seafood, a little meat, healthy oils and a little wine (I always like when they okay that!). Many of the recipes are gluten free and vegetarian, and they are marked with these things. Nutritional information is provided, but not a lot of photos. There is a chart to track which recommended foods you're eating throughout the week, and the recipes use little green icons to show which ingredients are protective of the brain. I was pleased to see that I marked quite a few of the recipes to try. They seem relatively easy, healthy and tasty. Recommended. I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.

I received a complimentary copy. While I do not eat all of the foods in this book there are some recipes I can modify. There is some wonderful information and it is very well organized. I think that depending on dietary needs this can be a great gift and will encourage people to make healthier eating choices.

I also liked that salsa and Pico de Gallo is hugely mentioned as a wonderful addition to this diet, added to recipes gives more boldness and flavor. The book only has 75 recipes but it’s a good starter book, and there are plenty of variations to make those recipes stretch. Would I buy or recommend? YES. Alzheimer’s cases are growing, and this gives you a better chance of fighting cognitive decline and answers a ton of questions. There is still a lot we don’t know about the disease but diet and recipes have been shown to guard against this disease. Thoughts for the author? Congratulations on your new release! Great subject and amazing recipes. Thanks so much for a copy to read and give my opinion through Netgalley.

I received a copy of this book for free from the publisher in exchange for my honest review. This cookbook is laid out clearly and includes some delicious sounding recipes. The beginning of the book includes a very layman-friendly description of the science behind the MIND diet and how it benefits the body and brain. My biggest critique of this and other cookbooks from Rockridge Press is that there are limited images throughout. For a more visual cook, this can be offputting. I thought this was a great cookbook. I thought it was very easy to follow and the author Julie Andrews did a great job of explaining how different kinds of foods and the way we eat all connect. How each different food can have an effect on the body some how. I also loved the different recipes from the cookbook and wrote some of them down to give them a try.

I really enjoyed this book and learned a lot from reading it. As someone who is pursuing a degree in the medical/science field I could not get enough of this book. Before reading I realized that food helped the body but never really gave it much thought. After reading I learned a lot about the MIND diet and was even able to cook some great meals for my family! I highly recommend this!

The MIND diet (Mediterranean-DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay) includes eating such items as leafy greens, low-starch vegetables, whole grains, berries, nuts, seeds, seafood, poultry, beans, and olive oil. As readers can see from this list, there are many good ingredients that can help to promote a healthy lifestyle. Part One is all about brain health and how what you eat is an important component. Creating a balanced lifestyle is key and this diet uses flavorful combinations to help eaters stay on track. I particularly like the lists of healthy fruits and vegetables, as well as the essential pantry staples. Part Two is all about the recipes and I have detailed below the sections, as well as some of my favorites. Breakfast: Lemon-Ricotta Pancakes with Blueberry Compote; Peanut Butter & Banana Baked Oatmeal Salads, Soups, and Sides: Broccoli Salad with Sweet Lemon Dressing; Lemon Chicken Orzo Soup; Kung Pao Brussels Sprouts Vegetarian Mains: Zucchini Noodle Carbonara; Chickpea and Potato Green Curry; Crispy Buffalo Tofu Bites Seafood Mains: Firecracker-Glazed Salmon Nuggets; Sheet-Pan Shrimp Boil; Easy Seafood Paella Carnivore Mains: Jerk Pork Tacos with Pineapple Salsa; Spanish Chicken Skillet; Mongolian Beef and Vegetables Healthy Desserts: Pumpkin Coconut Mousse; Dark Chocolate Mint Brownies Overall, I really enjoyed The Brain Health Cookbook for its varied recipes and great flavor profiles. It proves that you can eat well and eat healthy at the same time. The biggest drawback to this cookbook is its lack of pictures, as inspiration is usually drawn best through the visual medium. I would recommend The Brain Health Cookbook to those desiring to adopt a healthy lifestyle without sacrificing flavor. I was given an opportunity to read The Brain Health Cookbook: MIND Diet Recipes to Prevent Disease and Enhance Cognitive Power via the publisher. I chose to review this cookbook and my opinion is freely given.

Thank you to the publisher for gifting a copy of this book to me. I write this review by choice and honestly. To be honest, I have slowly lost my desire to be in the kitchen for any amount of time. I no longer enjoy creating a meal, it feels like a chore. To be honest, I have slowly lost my desire to be in the kitchen for any amount of time. I no longer enjoy creating a meal, it feels like a chore. However, I have several health issues and know that a proper diet is essential to helping me feel as good as my body will allow. That's true for everyone, really. So it's important to learn what is actually good for us and what we can do to maintain a healthy lifestyle, and for me, this cookbook is helping. The book begins by explaining what brain health is and what factors influence your brain health. What we need to gain from food to have a healthy brain is also explained along with the diets we should follow to achieve these results. For me, seeing what to limit is also very helpful. I have a sensitive stomach and will often find that my stomach becomes upset after eating foods that I thought were in my best interest, or that I had limited. I've had these problems for years and have always had to adjust my eating habits accordingly. With this cookbook, I can create a diet plan that will be helpful to my overall health. Seeing that there is a list of foods that are fresh listed by season is wonderfully helpful! I intend to try more foods and use the charts included in the book to create a meal plan. After all of these positives, the only reason I didn't give this book 4-stars is because there are no pictures of the recipes. At the start of each section, there is a picture of one recipe. But I find it helpful to see an image, even if it isn't for every recipe. Otherwise, I highly recommend this cookbook to everyone! It's a great mix of normal, everyday foods and some foods that you may have never tried.

MIND stands for Mediterranean-DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay.  This is a combination of two existing eating plans; the Mediterranean diet and the DASH diet. The Mind Diet: combining 2 diet plans The Mediterranean diet has become popular in the US because of it's concentration on omega-3 rich foods (seafood, fruits and vegetables, olive oil, wine, whole grains, and nuts/seeds) has been linked to lowering the risk of developing such diseases as; type 2 diabetes, depression, stroke, some cancers and some cardiovascular diseases. The DASH diet (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) is a well-balanced eating plan and concentrates on eating foods high in potassium and fiber-rich foods and decreasing food high in sodium and saturated fat. According to the National Institutes of Health, the preservation of cognition is reached by eating key nutrients include a diet of omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin E, B vitamins and flavonoids. These nutrients are helpful in minimizing the damage that is caused by free radicals. The Mind Diet Recipes MIND friendly food groups include; leafy greens, other vegetables, whole grains, nuts, berries, beans, legumes, poultry, and vegetable oils. So let's take a look at some of the recipes that you will be able to make at home.  For breakfast try out the Rainbow Chard and Sweet Potato Hash or the Raspberry-Honey Pancakes. Next, try out the Pesto Pasta Fagioli and the Crispy Baked Artichoke Hearts are quite a treat! For a main dish you can enjoy Mini Veggie Pot Pies, Citrus-Marinated Coconut Shrimp, Almond-Crusted Crab Cakes, or Orange Chicken and Broccoli Stir-Fry just to name a few of the incredible options. And don't feel like you have to limit yourself on sweet treats, with recipes for Pumpkin Oatmeal Raisin Cookies and Blackberry-Lemon Galette you will have options to keep everyone in the family happy and healthy. The recipes include variation tips to make different dishes by changing up a few of the ingredients, cooking tips as well as options for making it a meal by suggesting other recipes that pair well with your chosen recipe. The Mind Diet Resources In addition to lots of information about the Mind diet, and the foods that help and why they help, this book provides a 4 week meal plan, complete with shopping list, and pointing you to the recipes that you can make for yourself. It also includes a blank meal plan that allows you to personalize your plan as you wish. Finally, I really liked the lifestyle tracker that is included in The Mind Diet Plan and Cookbook. It give you space to record all the aspects of the MIND diet; food, exercise, sleep, stress reduction and intellectual pursuits. This book is a great resource for information about the prevention of Alzheimer's and Dementia and great food choices to make this lifestyle happen.

From an explanation of the diet, to lists of recommended foods, to the grocery lists and recipes, this book has everything you need to get started with the MIND diet. I like Julie's up front attitude and that it's OK to start slow, "As you go through the meal plan, remember that it takes time to create new habits, and even if you don’t follow it to the letter, you can still improve your overall health and reduce your risk of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia by up to 53 percent!" This actually encourages me to try harder and stay with the plan. Julie takes you through each food group, including proteins and explains what to look for, what to avoid and how they can help you. Explaining nutrients and the results to be had from consuming the right types of food. Overall, the best information on not just the "what" but the "why" of the food you should be eating. The recipes are straight forward and don't require a culinary degree to understand the process and techniques to preparing them properly. The included meal plans are varied enough that even though I don't follow them to the letter they give me so many ideas to tailor the plan to all the foods that I like and even give me the excitement to try a few I haven't wanted to eat in a long time! I look forward to tracking my results and to see how my cognitive functions improve! I also look forward to making my way through all the recipes to discover new favorites to add to my favorite meal lists! I found several already!

Thanks to the publisher for an ARC to read and give my honest opinion. So it’s a bit of a hobby of mine to read cookbooks... not sure when or where it started but I like the idea of healthy eating. There are so many cookbooks out there that it’s important to buy a cookbook that will not only help you eat what you want but have some tantalizing recipes as well. The MIND diet in this book is to help people, who do not want to suffer a cognitive decline. What did I like? The informative first part basically describes what the MIND diet does for cognitive function. How eating more vegetables can help your brain function better, and what the omega 5 can do for your diet. This isn’t a cure for Alzheimer’s or dementia but eating better can help reduce the stress of aging. The recipes are AMAZING! Those Vietnamese meatballs..... mouth watering. Would I buy this book? Yes, it’s an amazing cookbook. I wish it had more pictures though, that’s the only true downside. Vietnamese meatballs are pictured and how they make the vegetables in it was tantalizing. Thoughts for the author? More pictures next time. I like to see food and it’s hard to make recipes if you don’t have a clue what it’s supposed to look like. Still five stars cookbook and yummy recipes.

Just as exercises have been shown to enhance one's mental state and reduce the risk of dementia, so can certain foods enhance the mind. This book presents plenty of such as healthy recipes including desserts, smoothies, internationally-inspired entrees and side dishes. But the book also guides the reader to adopt a total lifestyle to support the mind. This manages to move from a mere good cookbook to a lifestyle guide that also has a lot of recipes. I received a free copy of the book from the publisher.

The MIND Diet Plan and Cookbook is a beautiful cookbook, complete with savory and mouth watering images. The cookbook itself has a collection of simple to follow recipes and weekly shopping lists. While the author knowledgeably backs everything by science, you can just as easily skip the beginning c The MIND Diet Plan and Cookbook is a beautiful cookbook, complete with savory and mouth watering images. My father suffers from Cardiovascular dementia and watching him digress over the last couple of years has made me very mindful of what I put in my body as well as serve to my family. I am for doing whatever I can to help my brain so my children do not have to go thru what I have watching my father suffer with the disease.

This is a terrific book for those who need information on a healthy diet, especially one geared towards lessening your chances of cognitive decline. This book is easy to understand in regards to what one needs to eat, while still being realistic that you will need some of the unhealthy choices. I love that it gives an actual meal plan, as I have difficulty putting one together. It also of course, gives you the needed recipes. This book was sent to me by the publisher for preview. There are several things I really enjoy about this book. The list of staples to have in your pantry. Weekly shopping list. Weekly menus. In browsing the recipes, I only found a couple of seasonings I don’t already have in the cupboard and that I may have to shop several stores to find. Most of the ingredients are pretty straight forward. Although I like to see pictures of the finished product, I did not feel it warranted a deduction in point This book was sent to me by the publisher for preview.
