This is the 2nd installment of Susan Stoker’s Second Delta Force Team. This is the story story of Gage/Lefty and Kinley. This story gripped me right from the beginning. I was shocked, gripped, eager to find out how this author wrapped it all up in the neat tidy bow we love and adore. This ending was awesome!! I didn’t see it coming. The epilogue for the next book...HOLY SCHNIKIES!!! I can NOT wait for Brain and Aspens book!!’ This narrator was good. I forgot Susan had gotten another narrator, but was pleasantly pleased with how well she did. This is my 2nd story with this narrator. I’d listen to more by her. What are you waiting for?? Break out the tissues… Shielding Kinley is book two in Susan Stalker’s Delta Team Two series. ‘Lefty’ aka Gage Haskins and Kinley Taylor are the second couple to come together for this Delta Team. And whew! What a coming together it is. But not like your traditional relationship. As always Ms. Stoker gives us the ultimate alpha male in Gage. He is sweet, protective, and obviously hot. And whew! What a coming together it is. But not like your traditional relationship. As always Ms. Stoker gives us the ultimate alpha male in Gage. He is sweet, protective, and obviously hot. When he first meets Kinley, he rescues her from a precarious situation. But the romance doesn’t start there. Intrigued with this beautifully, shy woman Gage wants to get to know her better. Living across the country from each other, Gage pursues his quest for friendship by email and text. Hoping the connection, they felt when they met will sustain the distance. Kinley has baggage. I’m not talking a small amount either. Imagine one of those BIG, HUGE rolling duffle bags full of issues. Disappointed, again and again, Kinley decides that any type of relationship with Gage would be a mistake. Better to stop before starting to avoid yet more disappointment. When they finally run into each other again, Gage is desperate to find out why Kinley ghosted him after their first meeting. Kinley is shocked that Gage is still trying to pursue a friendship with her after she purposefully ignored all his overtures. Did I paint an intriguing picture yet? The road to romance is rocky and fraught with twists and turns in this story. Kinley’s past will have you sobbing into your coffee. Gage’s reactions and actions will have you silently cheering him on. Ms. Stoker gives the reader a lot to digest and because of this, the buildup of the story is slow and steady. The reader also gets more insight into Delta Team Two and their stories to come, which is always a nice treat. When you finally reach the pinnacle of the story, the reader is left feeling elated and drained. But in a good way. You’ve done the 10-mile hike up the mountain and now you are able to savor the amazing view you were waiting for. Ms. Stoker has once again drawn a unique and fascinating story of this couple’s journey that leaves this reader in awe. Funny, sad, suspenseful…all the feels are included with this book. This book is a hit and worth picking up. P.S. The teaser at the end?? KILLER.

Shielding Kinley continues the Susan Stoker tradition: Woman in trouble turns to military men for help. I actually enjoy this trope, and enjoy the various worldly settings Stoker uses. I did finally put my finger on what has bothered me about this and other Stoker books; more on that in a few. Kinley is an assistant to a political figure who happens to be a real asshat. I actually enjoy this trope, and enjoy the various worldly settings Stoker uses. I did finally put my finger on what has bothered me about this and other Stoker books; more on that in a few. Kinley is an assistant to a political figure who happens to be a real asshat. He isn't just an asshat to her though, turns out he is a creepy pedophile asshat too. Kinley gets a little too close to discovering what he and an ambassador might be involved in and now there is a hit on her. I liked Kinley. She was a foster kid, so she has that constant need to please others and always be helpful. It's sweet but at times can make her seem naive. She is smart and savvy too and isn't one of those "too stupid to live" type heroines. When she finds out she is being chased, she makes smart decisions! Lefty/Gage is a Delta Force soldier who meets Kinley on assignment and feels a connection. She ghosts him (for her own psychological reasons) but he can't let it go. I appreciated his tenacity without being a creepy stalker. So, in all of these books by Stoker, the plot is pretty much the same. And there has always been something about it that I didn't love, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Well, in Shielding Kinley, I figured it out. Its the super awkward conversation between the heroine and the hero + his entire team early on in the story. Its always super intense about feelings and where your head is at and stuff like that. Reading it in this book, I had transference cringe. Here is this girl who doesn't know these people (on the Delta team) at all and they are bombarding her with SUPER personal questions while the one guy she does kind of know (but barely) is holding her/claiming her. Its so cringey! The awkwardness rolls off the page for me. Even thinking about it now is making me cringe. Its just so forward and uncomfortable. I don't find it the least bit romantic. Having said that, obviously lots of readers don't feel that way because her books are always best sellers. I enjoy the trope and will continue to read the books, but this type of scene happens in almost all of them. I think I will just start skipping that part! If you like the danger of a romantic suspense, you will love Shielding Kinley.     POV: 3rd   Tears: no   Trope: military, on the run   Triggers: (view spoiler)[Kinley was physically abused as a child. This book is brutally honest. The strength of the leading lady is amazing. I love it when the author is fearless in their writing like this book. It shows that not only the characters but also the author is true to the storyline. Excellent performance from Virginia.

Good in that Kinley learned she had a whole lot of people surrounding her, rooting for her to get better, but bad that she did the noble thing to leave them behind. That was so hard for everyone. Even when Lefty knew things were ending, it was a bit bittersweet. He knew she was testifying, but she still wasn't around him, but he knew from friends that she was doing good. When Kinley walked into the bar, that was great, I could just see it happening in my mind and was happy that these two finally found each other again!

Shielding Kinley is the second in Susan Stokers Delta Team 2 series, and it's heartwarming perfect! Now, as a die hard Susan fan, I personally recommend reading the first book before reading Kinley, but the book can be read as a standalone. -but why miss out on all that goodness!- Kinley is a loner, raised in the foster system, in crappy home after crappy home, she has learned to keep her head down and hustle. She has learned to be independent and hardworking, Kinley likes her time to herself and doesn't much care to socialize, but when Gage "Lefty" Haskins takes a interest in her....things change. After sharing a special time together in Paris, Gage comes to mean a lot to her, so when she sees something she's not suppose to on her last night in France, and her world comes crashing down around her... Gage is who she turns to to make it all better. Lefty is Delta, and that means he's over the top in his protection of those that mean something to him, and that now includes Kinley. After meeting her in Africa, then again in France, Gage is determined to explore their connection. Kinley is different though, she's so shy she doesn't know what to think of the big bad Delta taking an interest in her. After blowing him off what he thinks is twice, he is ready to give up. Until she ends up on his doorstep, sick, scared out of her mind and in need of one thing. Him. Follow Gage, Kinley and the rest of Delta Team 2 as they dig into the mystery of what Kinley saw and the connection between them. Hot digity! I always get so excited when new books come out, but Susan's books are in a category of their own. My favorite parts of her stories are always reading how vulnerable the big baddies are. Sure they are out saving the world, getting shot at and saving people, but they are human too. Susan always shows a side of her characters that are so relatable, they are real people, just like any of us. As always, 5 out of 5 stars from me!

for the audio - Shielding Kinley is one of those listens that you can do while easily doing other things. It will keep you listening. It had good detailing introducing Kinley and Gage, then the situation before throwing the danger in. There is really good buy in to the story and characters. I thought it was sweet that Gage already called Kinley by Kins from the very start. She was so introverted and admitted to herself that she just didn’t know how to interact. I appreciated the reality of everything. Virgina Rose did a great job bringing the story to life. She blended all of the voices together smoothly. She was able to voice Gage without being over the top. None of the male voices sounded girly. I could always tell who was talking. She was able to bring the tension and emotion forward when it was called for. I enjoyed listening to Ms. Rose narrator. While this is part of a series, it is a stand alone. A lot of the guys names get thrown in at the start, but it’s not necessary to really pay attention to them. I do get a kick out of the cameo appearance by Tex in all of the books. Shielding Kinley doesn’t disappoint.

I love listening to Shielding Kinley because audiobooks with the right narrators can really bring it to life. The narrators for Shielding Kinley did an excellent job. As always the sex scenes are out of this world 🔥💥. This book/audiobook has it all….emotions, action, alpha men who are protective, confident, treat each as family and inspires loyalty and honor as well. Highly and I mean highly recommend this book/audiobook.

Susan Stokes has successfully done it again and written a story that will take you on a gamut of all the feelings. As an avid reader who's completely content to sit quietly with a good book, I can completely identify with Kinley a fellow kindred spirit. Knowing that Kinley can find someone to love her for all her quirks gives us introverts hope.

Kinley & Gage (Lefty) have a sweet, necessarily slow burn connection that I highly enjoyed! She's had a rough go of it, and Gage is determined to show her that she is worthy of friendship & of love. Great message! Kinley & Lefty Every time I think Susan Stoker’s books can’t get any more awesome, she writes one that is even better! Wow! Lefty & Kinley met in Africa while his Delta team was providing protection, and he wanted to keep in touch, but she ghosted him. So this time, in Paris, he makes sure to talk to her about it, and they seem to be on the same page. But folks, this IS a Susan Stoker book, so you know it can’t be that easy. And the path Susan take them on is not only exciting, but at times heart wrenching, and oh so totally worth the read.

One thing that's consistent of Ms. Stoker's books is how quickly the story pulls you in. From the get go, the reading is so easy and smooth.. the storytelling done so well it's really difficult to put down. Lucky me, I was able to finish this with minor interruptions through the day haha. There were some parts of Kinley's personality that I could relate to and that made me like her character in even more. I truly enjoyed this story and would highly recommend it.

Well that was a bundle of angst, drama and action rolled into one awesome story. Kinley is cute and amazing in such a natural way when she is just truly herself... I loved watching Kin’s bloom throughout this book and seriously Gage and Kin’s relationship was beautiful to read, the strength they both showed during the hardest of times was amazing... I can’t wait for the rest of the team to find their women.

Worth the wait! I have been waiting what seems like forever for this book. It was definitely worth the wait. The inner strength of Kinley is what all women should strive to have. Her and Gage are so good together and the sacrifices made for them to be together forever were so heart wrenching. I am in awe of the storytelling ability of Ms. Stoker. Counting the days until Brain's story.

I'm loving this team and can't wait to read all of their HEAs. Kinley didn't have an easy life growing up, but made her own way alone. She has a hard time believing that Gage/Lefty really likes her. He wins her over. Of my, the choice she had to make, just broke my heart. I loved that Gage wasn't afraid to show his emotions. I was really hoping Lucky was going to be next, but I'm not too disappointed that it's going to be Brain. Especially after that introduction to Aspen.

I devoured this story written by Susan Stoker and loved that Kinley is one strong heroine in this book. I enjoyed her friendship with Gillian, her developing relationship with Gage “Lefty” and her brave actions to protect others. I loved how protective Gage is of Kinley and that he understood her need to take things slowly when it came to sex. Another winner by this author and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

Wow, Susan doesn't shy away from brutal graphic details. This one sure has a good story with a good amount of suspense, action, and heat. Can be read as a standalone. Virginia Rose did an amazing job narrating. I received this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

good story and narration (Audio copy) Overall 5 stars; Performance 5 stars; Story 4 stars Absolutely loving Virginia Rose as the narrator! Fabulous job and want to listen to more from her. The story took a surprising turn that I was not expecting - excellent! I did find this one had more romance than action but again very PG-rated with the heat level, not sure if it's always been that way with this author's books. While Kinley is not my go-to heroine in books, I liked her. Another winner! Susan Stoker has done it again with this latest instalment. A hot alpha Delta and introverted but strong female lead! A winning combination. I loved Kinley and Gage and most definitely cannot wait for the next book in this series!

Really enjoyed this one. Kinley has ghosted Lefty for reasons known only to her but when they meet up again and she sees something she shouldn't have seen, he is the first one she calls for help. Rollercoaster to the end but well worth it. Already looking forward to the next one.
