The only thing I would change… Is the fact that I have absolutely zero willpower when it comes to a LB release even knowing going in that it’s a 3 book series! So not being able to transition to the next book with no wait time, is the equivalent of a slow burn. But a slow burn is a good thing, when you have confidence that journey you’re being taken on is leading up to the ultimate culmination!! Ashton and Tori had me riveted from start to finish. And at this point I have more questions than answers. But getting to what happened, why, and how it will play out for them going forward, will keep me invested until the very end! And I have no doubt the discoveries made along the way will be emotional, explosive, and riveting, as only LB knows how to pen it. Looking forward to more Tori and Spence revelations, more LB cameos, and as always more from the supporting characters that have so far played an integral part in moving the story forward.

My Muted Love opens with a guy by the name of Ashton Spencer. Ashton receives a request from his mentor to step in for him and complete an assignment. Yet, it's at the mention of Tori McNabb's name that readers become acutely aware of something. SUDDENLY, it's as if you know that this woman (Tori) left an imprint on this man (Ashton). It was all in his reaction, silent but impressionable all at once. While the book starts off in the present, it's not long before it shifts to the past. Soon readers are up close and personal with how our two main characters meet. Tori McNabb is struggling when she gets to Blakewood State University. Any little thing seems to set her off and boom she's ready to throw it all away. Some tough love...well actually, I don't know if I can call it that really. So let's go with, some harsh words from a mentor keeps her planted at BSU but staying comes with a price. Tori must put in the work and get in the ring to show why she's there in the first place. At least in her mind, she has to and if I'm honest others are thinking the same thing too. It's not easy though and overnight it appears that BSU's star athlete takes it upon himself to be the one that will make her or break her at BSU. "You're one of them." "One of who?" "One of them welfare recipients. The new student who didn't earn their way to BSU, but got here by way of the pity train." -Ashton to Tori The Bad Humans Clique: That's the name Tori gives them. 'Them' being the rich, black Beverly Hills 90210 humans at BSU. They're mean, they think oh so highly of themselves, their generational wealth is worn like a badge of honor and because of that wealth things in this world come more easily to them. Tori, a total badazz in the boxing ring finds herself on the wrathful receiving end of the bad humans, of which Ashton Spencer is the leader. Ashton is the big man on campus. And let me tell you, this guy is a handsomely smart, all American Division I star quarterback and clear NFL prospect. He knows it. Tori knows it. His pretty, skinny, equally rich girlfriend Aivery knows it. The whole damn school knows it. Knowing it is one thing but with Tori however, she could care less about all that. The girl is focused and no bad humans are gonna stand in her way. Just when things are going well there's a shift. One I was NOT expecting at all. Ashton: O. M. GEEEEEEEEE. Listen to me, you will not like this guy. Or maybe it's just me. *shrugs* Whatever, believe me when I tell you he will only soften you up just to piss you back off again. Overall, he grew on me and I'm eager to know more about him. I sloooooowly fell for Ashton. I consider him to be the perfect blend. He has that old money proper vibe mixed with a little hood. As you read the book you realize his background has provided him life experiences from both worlds. This works well for his character, which for me is a big plus cause honey I like them with a touch of hood! Tori: Tori. Tori. Tori. * Blows out air from my mouth in exasperation* My feelings are mixed when it comes to her. Not really a fan to be honest. Then, I spent most of the book feeling bad for her only to feel a little played by her as the book ends. Do I still feel bad for her? Yes, but that's circumstantial at best now. *narrows eyes in contemplation* Yeah...I need more intel on this chick. I thought I had her figured out somewhat and now I'm thinking maybe I don't. However, I can admit that Belvin did leave me some slight clues along the way that eluded to certain things within her character complexity. The character I'm most eager to learn more about? Why NormaJean of course. Her entire being in this story is somewhat jaw-dropping. I can already tell from the snippets of her we received. The character I would love to see Tori knock on their a$$? Aivery. Gosh, I hope it happens. LOL!!!! The character that surprised me? Tori. My section titled Tori: explains. Fave Lines: "Bitch got a name" - Tori "You're a real Panther now, Nabby-girl"- Ashton Series: Yes, this is book one in a three-book series. Book two is due Summer of 2020 Recommendation: Read the book! Though this is a romance, romance does not really play a big part in this book in my humble opinion. It kind of flies beneath the radar in an obvious way but does not overtake the book. Again, that's in my humble opinion. Plot/Storyline: Belvin has the worlds of two focused athletes colliding in an unexpected way...especially when it leads with them being athletes as certain common ground. The story is somewhat emotional for both lead characters. Two extremely different people of the opposite sex are clashing at pivotal points in their lives. Writing: The writing was good, characters are laid out well, and readers will definitely want more. Hopelessness was a theme to a degree but not on overload to the point you feel bombarded by it. The two mains are NOTHING like what I expected them to be and I'm ok with that. I can't wait to see where this story goes.

I don’t think anyone can compare to the character development and background as Love does with each masterpiece she pens... I am absolutely stuck on this train of Ashton and Tori and can’t wait until summer to figure what the happened between the two of them that’s got them both spooked out LOL! But baby when Tori gave my mans the business and broke out of there I hollered! I definitely recommend this one and didn’t expect anything less from my fav!

I first thought this book was just about young adults. I didn't know what to expect considering Belvin is usually on her grown and sexy with her characters (lol). Hey, dont get me wrong: we have to see the rough draft of Ashton and Tori as young adults before we can see them in their more mature phase. That doesn't mean they weren't well developed though! I can always count on a layered hero and heroine in the LB Universe. I can't say that I love Ashton yet or even Tori for that matter. But I su I first thought this book was just about young adults. This duo also came with a plethora of other side characters that added to plot progression, but wasn't a distraction when it came to the flow of the storyline. Additionally, the college setting of BSU was mind blowing and gave me all the feels of a real HBCU. Keep in mind, Belvin always provides a solid backstory. The timeline which focused on "then" was a nice touch that was easy to follow. It lets the readers see that Ashton and Tori's backstory was being revisited so we can learn how they got to the present, "now". This author also has a knack for manipulated timelines and is meticulous with dates so I can't wait to see how she spins this story in the next installment! The cliffhanger had a very soft landing and was quite bearable imo.

When the Exclusive and the Excluded fall for each other... I loved this story. Just be prepared for a slow build. As I read, I often wondered how Tori and Spence’s romance would materialize. I’ve been a fan of Love Belvin’s style since the beginning. Therefore, I knew that this love story would be layered and engaging. This one exceeded my expectations; I bought the second book before I was done!

Worth the wait When a book is dropped by this author, I immediately start reading. This time I waited and I’m so glad I did because I would have been so impatient, begging for book 2 and 3. I was clueless about how this was going to go but oh boy! Tori and Ashton have me shook. Book one has me hooked and I’m so glad to be able to dig right into book 2.

I’m so late with this. Of course Love is like one of my favorites period. I always realize I’ll encounter a heavy subject and have to be prepared for that. What I love is always learning something. So to be frank, I didn’t like either of the main characters, but how Love does whatever it is she does causes you to be consumed in the stories both characters tell. What I can appreciate and especially with this story is that everyone has a journey and more often than not, you can relate to the story I’m so late with this. What I can appreciate and especially with this story is that everyone has a journey and more often than not, you can relate to the story in some way. You either were the people or you knew the people at some time in life. For me, this took me back to my college days and it’s funny because so did Wayward Love, but this was so different, yet I still found it eerily familiar. Myself having gone to an HBCU, I can say I never knew anyone like Aivery or her crew, but I’m sure they existed. This story was tough. It was tough to watch Tori go through what she did. It really reminded me more of high school and when kids are cruel for the same reasons. Tori did surprise me though, and I love that about Love’s stories. Just when you think you know a character they do something and add another layer to their humanity. I think after that point, I realized that she had a deep past that we definitely haven’t unearthed yet. I was pleasantly surprised with Blakewood U. I knew it was from CCJ! Really like how Love colored it in. Ashton had to grow on me. I think by homecoming night I was salivating lol! The conversation at the bonfire was 😅 Love made you feel what they felt. It was a love or a passion that really had to be muted. It was too complicated and so it leaves you frustrated but in a revelatory way. Waiting on 8/1/20.

I absolutely love LB! She has blown my mind away with her previous work. I loved this one although I can't say it's my favourite. The way she narrates makes you able to empathize with characters even if you can't relate to them. Thats her magic. Okay so LB does the age old popular boy falls for awkward girl story BUT obviously with her own twist and quite a twist it is! Much as it confuses and irritates me that she tends to drop clues and have us piece together a puzzle on our own, this is what I love about her work. Usually, everything comes together and we are rewarded greatly in the end. I realize this is only part 1 but I just didn't get enough! For me, Tori was too naive too socially inept to get lost in. Did she really not care at 18 years of age that her legs were hairy? Did she really think she had to wear a party dress to a funeral? She lacked immense self awareness at her age and there was no explanation I found to make it make sense so it was hard for me to get lost in her character. Although, she did have me questioning everything in the last scene at Ashtons massage appointment. Was her naivete an act? A ploy? It was very slow and still I just wish she had given me more. Still a good read nonetheless can't wait for the next installment!

I totally inhaled this book, I devoured it because I just could not put it down. The story touched every emotion and tugged i n my heart strings even more. Tori has been through it, virtually abandoned/neglected by the adults in her life (sans her Margaret). Oh my God!!!!! I just cannot understand how many universes this author has in her head, each one more complex and just as satisfying as the other, This universe takes place at Blakewood State University, an HBCU. I love how developed Ashton Spencer and Tori McNabb were. Ashton is the top guy on campus and, as such, thinks he is beyond reproach. I just loved whenever Tori brought him down a few pegs. She was much more mature than most of the upperclassmen at the school. I really loved how the relationship between Ashton and Tori evolved. There wasn’t that instant attraction and lust, but a clear understanding of how misunderstood both characters were. There was a lot said and yet so much unsaid in the start of their story. The summer can’t get here fast enough!!!

I really liked how Tori wasn't all gung ho about being in college. It was really cool to read about a student with a sports scholarship that didn't really want to be in the situation. I loved being able to experience the great Blackwood State University that pops up in CCJ's and Love Belvin's books. I just love how they stan for each other and always find a way to merge their literary worlds together. Tori's extremely humble and doesn't use her status as a champion boxer as a way to push her weight around and force people to respect her. I hated how the Black Beverly Hills 90210 humans treated her and called her a dog/diseased. I did like how Tori used DMX's discography to indirectly get back at the crew when she would morph into her alter ego The Banger when she entered the ring. I could relate to Tori's insistence on being invisible, left alone and respected. Tori is a layered character that I cannot wait to learn more about in future installments. Ashton was the worst. At first, he was indeed a bad human. Tori & Ashton's first tutoring session was one for the books. Now I did enjoy seeing him school Tori on the amazing opportunity that she had been awarded. Which I think also helped Tori put things into perspective and possibly make the decision to stick around at Blackwood State University. His knowledge about the school made me believe that he was truly a proud Panther. Now I could kind of sympathize with Ashton because he has stuck between two worlds most of his life. A life of privilege as well as being related to gangbangers. He's also dealing with being big man on campus and realizing no one really cares about you when life happens. I liked how Ashton seemed to save Tori in so many ways. I did like how he purchased the shoes, undergarments and wardrobe for Avery. The sweetest part was when he paid for her date and helped her save face in front of the haters. He also grew on me when he expressed to Tori that as a black woman she is protected and doesn't have to be so hardcore all the time. I don't really care for his girlfriend Aivery and I wish he would shut her down more when she verbally attacks Tori. Ashton and Tori's relationship right now doesn't have me shipping them just yet. Honestly, Ashton is still growing on me and I'm looking forward to seeing him grow/mature. As well as I can't wait to find out how his past and journey after college and how it put him the positive position he is in now. It was so good to see Elle, Jackson, and Ragee pop up in the story. I love it when old characters make appearances. I liked how this book covered the topics of classism, grief, social anxiety, the prison system, age gap relationships and the black college experience. Overall this book was so worth the wait and I cannot wait until the summer release. Loved it!

Love Belvin does it Again ! Me Belvin writing style wholes your attention until the last word. The characters are well developed. The setting is fitting and so current with campus life at a HBCU. Tori and Spence are in that rollercoaster relationship that Ms. Belvin has her characters on in every novel she has written. Ms. Belvin has done it again with making you feel passion and pain for the couple's in her stories. I always keep wanting more. *** Please don't make me wait too long for Part 2. I'm invested Love never disappoints. I've had this book since release but had a weak moment and read it in vacation this week... thinking book 2 would be released soon. The characters are interesting and I'm ready to learn more about their journey. My only complaint is that NC A&T was referenced as NC AT&T once but corrected the second mention so not sure if that was shade as a rival school. But being an NC girl from Greensboro, NC... messing up the school name is a pet peeve if mine. I'm invested Love never disappoints. Another great read! Page turner for real! Awesome book. I love this author, the details she uses to tell her stories and the time she takes to paint the entire story without rushing, making you fall in love with the characters and also how she integrates other characters from previous books into the story. I just love her skill of writing, feels like you're right there along side the characters. It's never predictable and ALWAYS engaging . I look forward to the next installment of this book to se Another great read! Page turner for real! Awesome book. As Always.... I purchased this book and forced myself not to read it until all three came out. I didn't succeed because we'll it's Love Belvin, so I at least waited for the 2nd one and read them back to back. This woman it's just a pure and true talent and I hope she never stops writing I thought I'd be annoyed with them being on a college campus but I was so wrong she knows exactly how to start and exactly where to end she gives readers exactly what they didn't know they needed. G.O.A.T. of series This was well worth the wait to start reading this series. This author is a wordsmith and her greatest gift is her character development that allows you into one's psyche. Whew, I felt every emotion pouring out of Tori and Ashton. Many times I had to go back and reread portions of the book because I did not want to miss anything the author was giving. What a great way to get the readers engaged. I would have been upset reading this in March and waiting until August for book 2. Love has done it again! Her books always leave me wanting more. I have re-read each series multiple times and each time is like the first time. Tori and Ashton are definitely giving me vibes of my favorite Love couple Ragee and Wynter ❤️ As a fan of enemies to lovers stories Tori and Ashton are not disappointing. The emotional ride of their relationship unfolding is amazing. I definitely can not wait for the next book.

Love got me hating fictional characters! The villain in here I can’t stand. I know it’s more and I can’t wait. What did Spence do? And Tori is a beast in the ring but outside of it she’s got me wanting to lift her chin and say keep your head up baby. I’ve got so many questions that I know will be answered in the coming books however, Love Belvin has again written a novel that kept me reading and left me wanting more.
