REREAD- 12/16/17 - Still a 5 star for me... Loved this hero Sergei! This is my first time reading anything by Victoria Wright who cleverly weaved a beautiful and very enjoyable Russian mafia story with the gritty Russian backdrop. Sergei's sister was murdered in Russian of all places and Eleanor was called to assist with this serial killer investigation. Once she hears Sergei's voice in the inspector's off... Eleanor is literally shocked. You see the H/h had a beautiful past until he vanished. Moving right along, Eleanor or Nora is smart and very diligent with criminal cases or lack there was in this gruesome case. I admired Eleanor on how she always put her "little bear cub" before all others. Read the story to discover who that "little bear cub" was and how it effects Sergei. Oh and by the way, don't be afraid of the Russian language used in this book because Wright used an almost memorable code to help me understand the language. So all in all, I enjoyed "Sergei" and really look forward to reading other stories by Victoria Wright! 4.5 Da, not Nyet stars *****

Review to come. ETA: Seven years ago, Eleanor (Nora) and Sergei had a the kind of relationship and connection that might make one think they were soulmates. If you believe in that sort of thing. And then he up and disappeared, leaving her pregnant, and alone. Thus, fast forward to present day, and Nora is sent to Moscow, Russia on an assignment to help a detective find a serial killer. One of the victim's brother? The man who hired said detective to look more into the case? Sergei. So, Victoria Review to come. One of the victim's brother? The man who hired said detective to look more into the case? Sergei. So, Victoria Wright is new to me. We all know I don't read organized crime romance very often, but I had a taste for Russians, and London Miller convinced me to do it, so we read together. I like the original cover more than the new one--just prefer it, for whatever reason. It had a Russian feel, and I was on that kick at the moment. I like when characters have history because I think it makes chemistry and connection easier for an author to convey in a sort of insta-love way. Especially when you know, it's explicitly stated love was a huge factor way back when. Add in a few issues by way of Sergei's life--being he's a Vor--the secret daughter (for all those secret baby romance lovers) and it's a fast, interesting read. It was shorter than I expected. I didn't check out the length, just bought and based on the price, thought it was a longer novel. That was my fault. In the shortness of it all, though, I felt there was a huge story that was simply condensed into the shorter version. And if the author ever went back in and expanded the plot points that were never really dug deep into (like how the killer ... spoilers, so) ... anyway, I would pick it up and read again because it would feel like a whole other book. All in all, I liked it. Happy reading, loves.

Ok Fast with little or no explanation of what happened. Looking for the killer, found killer....but no whys or answers. Oh and let’s get back together with little or no fuss. Good idea but not developed well. It was a good story and the second chance stuff was sweet.

I felt that the story was underdeveloped. I felt like the relationship between the two main characters could have been realistic, but it wasn't. I like a little push and pull in romances. There was not enough to cause me to soon even a little. I just could not follow the authors vision on this one. Still I am willing to give her other books in the future a try. Good This story was short, it could have been a little longer. This story has a little suspense, and romance, that's about it. Good This story was short, it could have been a little longer. This story has a little suspense, and romance, that's about it.

An enjoyable easy read story line! This was different for me to read a Russian story that was so very heavily laden with the Russian language. I enjoyed it. I love reading about different cultures and their customs and language. I especial like reading about babushka's dasha. It seemed so serene. Even though Sergei left Eleanor 7 yrs previously, the moment they saw each other, all the old feelings came bubbling back up like they had never been apart. They both said their would just get back to their own lives once Nora's job was finished but fate would not let that happen. Sergei refused to have an arranged marriage his family wanted because he never got over Eleanor, besides, Lila was like a little sister to him. Sergei was caught between obligations for his family and keeping Nora safe from his life style. Nora had to get over her resentment with the fact that Sergei abandoned her, not leaving her with a way to contact him. Once he explained to her that he was summoned by his father to take over the family business, she relented her anger somewhat, but Sergei had to persuade her to marry him because he was not letting her go again. With discovering Ana's existence, Sergei now has a ready made family that would satisfy his Uncle Youriy's blackmail problem and he and Eleanor were able to get their delayed HEA.

This is a new author and I have to say I loved her writing style. She made Russia feel so alive and welcoming. Even when the characters are speaking Russian we know what they are saying because of her clear writing style. Her need to find him even after she learns what he really does for a living leads to her career and her career lead her to a invited visit to his homeland This is a new author and I have to say I loved her writing style. Right into his lap. Can they put their heart ache behind them and start over and become the family their daughter keeps hoping for? This book has just the right amount of mystery and romance that should satisfy any reader. I would highly suggest you at least give this one a try if you want a little of both.

Victoria Wright is a new author for me and I was impress with the story. Eleanor Truman is asked to come to Russia to help with a serial killer case. She also has a secret and because of that secret she hopes she doesn't run into Sergei Ivanov. I enjoy learning new things and the story takes place in Russia. The only problem I had was the lifestyle of Sergei and that the characters could have had a let more depth to them and some of the story moved to fast it felt like that a piece was missing. 4* Eleanor was invited to Russia to profile a killer. She feels Russia is calling to her putting closure to her past. Sergi was her past they meet again due to the murder of his sister. The chemistry is still there however she doesn't know what made him leave 7 years ago & he doesn't know what's holding her back. Will they catch the killer & will their secrets make them or break them? This is a standalone book. Another new author for me. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
