This is an epic fantasy that once you start you will not be able to put it down. It grabbed me from the start and drew me in so much so that I felt I was on this journey with the characters! It action packed and full of adventure, danger and is an exciting and entertaining read with twists and turns and romance and it’s one hell of a read!

I received an ARC of Daughter of Darkness from the author for free in exchange for an honest review. Daughter of Darkness has a story that catches you from the first moment, with the advance of the chapters the mystery grows and makes you want to read without stopping to discover what is happening. I love Devon and Kenna, you can see different aspects of their relationship, which make it an interesting couple. The mythology of this book is too interesting. Daughter of Darkness is a fantastic book, that its story catches you and you don't let go, until you finish it.

She's one of those authors that while I haven't read any of her work I just know I will enjoy it and therefore have to buy it. Of course, I was drawn to Daughter of Darkness because it was Julianna's book and the description grab my attention but I will admit, it was the cover that really got me. The cover for this book is stunning, it drew me in, the decision to read it was made the moment I first laid eyes on the cover and it didn't disappoint, Daughter of Darkness was an excellent read. I really think this is the type of book that needs to be read without knowing too much so I am going to be a little vague in my review. Daughter of Darkness is a standalone paranormal romance that is told from multiple point-of-views and has a dual timeline meaning part of the story takes place in the present while the other part takes place in the past. Honestly, Juliana did an excellent job with the duel timeline, it was done really well, revealing the past, contributing to the future, and combining to make an overall interesting story. The characters are great, I really did love them all, it was very easy to connect to them. Kenna's pov is told in the present, she is a fighter, cagey, she builds walls to protect herself but she cares deeply for people. Then there is Kienna whose pov is in the past, she is devoted to her family, caring, patient, and a hard worker. The final point of view is Devon's which is told in the past and present which was great. I can see the differences in his past self and his current self, the things he has gone through made him a different person and I can still see who he is at his core, that never changed and that's something that rounds out his character. Then there are the supporting characters who add a lot of meaning and depth to the story. While they weren't perfect they couldn't help but invoke feeling into the story and gives it an extra layer. The story was kinda wild, Devon is an immortal warrior for the Gods, who just got out of Hell and is on a mystery mission so mysterious he doesn't even know what it is. He was being punished for something, in my opinion, wasn't his fault and now he has to redeem himself with this current mission but the Gods aren't telling him anything, they expect him to figure things out and I just call bullshit. A lot of problems could have been prevented if the Gods would have stopped with the secrets, it was just ridiculous. The story was just so interesting and the more I read the more I fell into the story and I realize what technique Juliana using to tell the story. That was the first time I have ever come across that technique, it made the story interesting. It was pretty wild when I caught on to what was going on, I was just anticipating what was going to happen and of course, that just sucked me in even more. Daughter of Darkness is such an excellent read, the characters and the story made for a perfect fantasy escape. The dual timeline, the magic, the danger, and darkness all centered on this epic love story because yes this is an epic love story. At times it did have those classic romance novel type moments and I kinda loved it, I couldn't help but root for the couples in the story. I highly enjoyed this standalone and plan on getting the book in print. If you are looking for an epic paranormal romance then you gotta read this.

Awhile back I got the opportunity from the author to read some of this story when she started working on it. It definitely piqued my interest and was anxious to find out what happened. He has no idea what he did or what his mission is in the small town he’s been sent to. All he knows is that this is a second chance and he’s determined to do things right this time you know without the knowledge of what he did wrong in the first place. Kenna is living on the run never safe with danger potentially lurking around every corner. Settling down for a little while seems like a good thing maybe this time they can be safe? Probably not but her neighbor Devon is rather interesting as he seems to insert himself into her life. But that’s not all there is to the story... this one is told across two different timelines... Kianna is working hard on her family’s struggling farm. Help comes in the form of a strapping young gentleman in need of a job. Devon was sent on a mission only being told that he needed to get close to this family. Why? He doesn’t know but whatever this is it’s important. Devon you say? Oh yes same Devon that’s hanging out with Kenna. Long ago he took this job on Kianna’s farm. So what was it that happened long ago that is happening again in the present? Well... I’m not telling you read the book it’s great I love it. Though to be fair I generally love everything that Ms. Haygert writes so maybe I’m a tiny bit bias. But I finally got my answers so I can’t complain.

Devon failed a mission in the past, a mission he has no memory of. Now, he was sent back to human realm, trying to fix the failure of his past - only he has no clue what he messed up, and hence no idea where to start. The similarities were obvious, and even though the story was told de facto twice, the outcome and the setting were different, and so was the heroine. Kianna had no idea about her abilities, no training, no darker memories of kidnapping. Kenna has all this, and is prepared to fight along the warriors of light to defeat the demons. I loved the story and lived through all the emotions and romance.

For more reviews please visit https://awindowtomysoul.com/ I fully recommend this book. It's a standalone full of sweet love, not only romantic, but of family and friends. Action and humor too. It even has a Ball! Both in past and present 🤩. Also, Kianna and Kenna are both strong and powerful women, but absolutely different mostly for their era. And Devon, well he's just perfect 🤷🏻‍♀️. When they move into a quaint little town and start living a normal life, Kenna starts to believe it can last. Devon is a Warrior of God sent on a mission on earth. He made a mistake and has been atoning for it in hell for the past three hundred years. Now he is sent to right his wrong but a problem still stands in his way. He doesn’t know what his mission is or what he did wrong and he has been searching for his purpose for eighteen years. Until two women came to move in the house next door. Kenna and Devon had such great chemistry! Me being a sucker for good romance in my books, I devoured this in one go. The story spanned in two timelines, one in the old times (I am dumb to not guess which century) and one in the current times. All the characters and setting were almost the same in both timelines along with most of the story. Devon and Kenna’s meeting, their love story, the entire events that happened in their past lives and their present was almost the same. I like the past story much more than the present one mostly because the present one was a repeat of the past and it made it uneventful for me to read about. This one was more on the romance side than the fantasy and Kenna and Devon’s power came to use only occasionally. The plot and concept were a unique one and the characters were so lovely it made me read it till the end. I thought the writing was really good and loved the slow burn too. I found it a lot similar to Charlie N Holmberg’s works so if you are her fan then you will love this one!

She can't trust him, or anyone else, but as they learn more about each other they realize they know more about their dark worlds than either imagined. Told in alternating time periods between the now and a past life, it plays out in a similar fashion to how it has all been done before. What I loved: Kenna and her past life version are such strong characters. Watching their similarities was a treat but also the way Kenna had grown from the girl she once was. She's no longer the helpless damsel and I loved that. Devon is intriguing because he had no memory of what happened before or why he has been sent to this town on a mission, yet he has faith he's in the right spot. Watching them grow together and figure out their violent past was super intriguing. The writing style flows well and isn't overly descriptive which is a huge plus in my book. What left me wanting more: The pacing was slow. It seemed like every time something exciting happened, the POV changed and suddenly everything ground to a halt again, never letting the story truly take off and explode. It's a bit hard to get in to, but once you do, the characters keep you going and needing to know how it all ends. Final Verdict: A story that's well worth your time, with intriguing characters, a fresh voice, and a unique plot line that doesn't feel like it's been done before.

I was eager to see what Juliana brought us with her novel Daughter of Darkness and I can tell you that she did not disappoint me at all. From the very first pages she completely hooked me with a fast, interesting and fluid plot. The mystery grows enormously from the beginning and the plot is divided into two timelines. I loved that the plot will not focus only on a single point of view. I think that really enriched the story. Devon is a warrior sent to hell by the gods for 300 years as punishment for a failed mission of which he does not remember anything. Now they give him a chance to redeem himself, but I find it aggravating that they don't let him know anything about what happened last time or that they don't even let other warriors help him or tell him details of what happened. It seemed like an unnecessary way to complicate things. On the other hand, Kenna and Lia are on the run and trying to find a place to settle and live their lives without having to lose their freedom again. I loved Kenna, she is a strong woman, concerned about the people she loves and willing to fight. She is a badass. Her personality made the book even more enjoyable to read. I loved the chemistry she has with Devon, but Kenna was definitely my favorite character. I think this is an ideal book to get out of a reader's block, you will not be able to stop reading it once you start it. Although it is a standalone I would love it to be a series.

I enjoyed how this book wasn't just about magic and love but also about developing a new family. The characters were enjoyable in the book. I enjoyed reading about Kenna and Devon, seeing their relationship develop because of their history. Their adventures were fun to read but my favorite character was Kenna. She is a brave and badass character that doesn't want the darkness to get her family or friends. She lost so much and it was hard for her to get her wall down to let others in. The problem I had was that I didn't enjoy Kianna. I can't say much because it would spoil the whole book so you will have to wait and see. There is romance of course but one steamy scene from what I can remember to those who love a steamy book. *wink* Overrall I enjoyed this book. The reason I didn't give this a full on 5/5 stars is because of one of the characters and it wasn't that WOW book but an enjoyable one. This would have been a great series but I don't think there is going to be a book 2 because of how it ended. But it could change! This is perfect for Fantasy Romance lovers and fans of Invisible Life of Addie LaRue!

This is a high tension story. And while the past/present parallel was intriguing at the beginning, by the one-third point, the story began to feel tedious. I expect a lot from a book with a rating of 4+ stars. Quite a few reviews all mention this book "grabs you from the beginning" which I found so not true. The first few chapters are really uninspiring. There's a lot of mysterious staring at each other and memory flashbacks to Little House on the Prairie which I don't have time for. The writing isn't particularly intriguing or captivating and the author hides the character's motivations which means I didn't really connect emotionally to either MC an I expect a lot from a book with a rating of 4+ stars.
