I love second chance romances - what can I say? I have my reasons. But several of my acquaintances hate this type of story, for reasons of their own that are just as valid. After reading this nightmare, I wish their reasons were enough for me to break my addiction to this trope. The h and H are high school sweethearts with plans for a future with marriage and babies and blah, blah, blah. Luke was 18 and a year older than Tally, and he takes her out one night and they make love under the stars - and then he dumps her. Because at some point in the 3 years they'd been together he'd decided he wasn't good enough and the only way to be good enough was to join the Army. So yes, of COURSE the way to prove your love and that you are good enough is to DUMP your girl. Annoying plot device, that, but 18 year old boys tend to be utterly thick - so he almost gets a pass due to his age and upbringing. Welp, after Tally's had her heart ripped out and Luke is gone, she finds out she's up the duff. She is unable to contact Luke to tell him about the baby, but then he is listed as missing and presumed dead. She goes on alone to have his son, Tuck. When Luke is discovered alive 4 years later, the news and 'reunion' are predictably emotional. But the problems start here, because Tally is happy he's alive but still deeply angry with him for how he left. She isn't looking to reconcile. She has been raising her son and running the family ranch on her own, and doesn't need him. He hurt her too much. Luke is clearly still a numbskull and clueless of how shitty his actions were and that he has a responsibility to atone for them. He assumes a right to 'claim what is his,' pressuring her and pushing into her life and taking control of her business. Oh, hell f*ucking no. You left, asshole. Ain't nothing here 'yours' and you don't have the right to claim shit, so get down on your knees and beg for it, soldier boy. But no, he barely acknowledges his dickitude and then boldly states his intent - all arrogant and smirking and calling her 'baby.' What a spunktrumpet. But Tally seemed strong and determined to keep her independence, so I was expecting her to put him in his place. Um, nope. She totally rolls over, allows him to physically dominate her and shut her up by kissing her. He goes all overbearing and alpha, insinuates himself into everything, takes over HER ranch without HER permission. When she gets pissed his response is that she is the woman and he is the man and a man takes care of what's his - and that she still has 4 more children to give him besides the one they already have. What. The. F*ck. Excuse me? Is it or is it not the 21st bloody century?? That 'a real man takes care of the little woman who belongs barefoot and pregnant and keepin' the home fires burnin' bullshite makes me want to spew. It makes me sick when a woman submits to it and lets him have his way. Do women REALLY find such archaic, neanderthal nonsense sexy? For fuck's sake, WHY?! Yet there is sooooo much of that whole presumptive, controlling dynamic out there that apparently it's a thing. Well, it's not a thing for me. I'm not saying they shouldn't have reconciled, but she by God should have made him grovel for it. Were it me, he wouldn't have been allowed to touch me let alone force himself into my life when I'd more than proved I didn't need him. He would have had to prove himself all over again and it would have taken a loooong time, not mere weeks. I've been called out more than once for my attitude towards women, but I don't compromise my principles to other's opinion. I have no respect for weak women, for women who yield to men, and women who let their bodies control their actions. They are an insult to my gender. And I will not subject myself to writers who portray women in a way that makes them subject to male manipulation, or who portray men as cocky, smirking cavemen.

    Island Girl Romance Reads

This is my first book by BJ Bentley and loved it!! Luke and Tally were high school sweethearts and so in love until Luke break up with Tally right after graduation to join Booth Camp. After Luke was presumed dead, he’s back to claim Tally and gets a surprise that he’s a father. Loved it! Beautiful book and can’t wait to read more of this series.

Y'all, when I heard BJ Bentley was writing a new series based in the country, I about squealed like my 1 year old son when given a balloon. I may live in the city, but I'm a total country girl at heart. So, a love story that takes place on a farm is totally my number one guilty pleasure. And this one is a horse farm? Yep, I was a goner. I may live in the city, but I'm a total country girl at heart. So, a love story that takes place on a farm is totally my number one guilty pleasure. And this one is a horse farm? Yep, I was a goner. Story Line: Coming Home is a second chance romance meets secret baby sort of trope. It encompasses so much more, but if I had to narrow it down, those would be the top two categories. You see, Tally and Luke go way back. They dated in high school, were head over heals for one another, etc. Then, Luke decides he needs to join the army and breaks up with the love of his life. Little do either of them know, that Tally is actually pregnant. Fast forward a couple of years and Luke goes missing overseas and is later declared dead. But just kidding, he was actually a POW and was finally found. Crazy right? Dear lord, if that happened to my hubby? I would be a total freaking wreck. But Tally is Miss Independent and is my opposite. She doesn't wear her heart on her sleeve. She pushes through for her son - their son. But for Tally and Luke, to get from post breakup feelings back to their happily ever after, it's quite the journey. There were times while reading that my heart truly ached for these two. Their love is felt deep in the roots of this story. But their fairy tale isn't so quick to become a reality. It takes time, redeveloping trust and letting go of the past for Tally and Luke to finally move forward together. Interaction: Luke is so dang dreamy. Oh my stars. He's so sweet and tender with their son, and has an absolutely filthy mouth when he's alone with Tally. It's so freaking hot. And Tally is the perfect leading lady. She works hard on her horse farm from sun up to sun down. She takes care of her employees as if they're family. And she's probably mom of the year. Seriously. Tally is everything I wish I were. Can we be best friends? Although, a little birdie told me I'm going to love book 3 the most because Fiona is my spirit animal. Spoiler alert, this will probably just be my favorite series ever because these characters are all incredible. Laundry: Mmmmmmmm. Give me a minute to reminisce. You know how I said Luke has a dirty mouth? Yeah, it's just the right amount of naughty without being outright vulgar. Although, if he had been vulgar, I probably would have still loved him just as much because he's that dreamy. Luke is probably my favorite BJB character to date. And not just because his laundry skills are phenomenal. But while I'm on the topic, this man has a way with words, his mouth and his favorite appendage. I'll leave it at that ;) Depth: Because I'm a horse girl, a good part of the depth to this story comes from my favorite animal. Someone creates quite a bit of chaos and drama and let's just say, I had to tell the author I would not read her book if any animals die. So minor spoiler, no animals die in Coming Home. Thank you lord Jesus. But there are also other stories swirling into light throughout Luke and Tally's love story. Seriously good and juicy stories. Like to the point that I am on pins and needles waiting for Emma Jean and Noah's story. Especially after that dang epilogue. Such a tease! But don't you worry your pretty little head, there is a happily ever after and it is the perfect ending to a perfect story.

She’s happy.... ish. Someone broke her heart once and then the kicks kept coming. She’s been down but Tally is never out! Luke loved Tally since he was 16 years old. He always knew she was it for him but struggled with his own self worth. Boys make dumb decisions in the name of heroism but grown men know the difference between that and martyrdom. Luke has learned the hard way and he’s back to pick up the pieces of his youthful transgressions. He knows Tally better than she knows herself. Tally just can’t imagine feeling the pain of loss again. It’s a thing of wonders to “watch” Luke romance and love Tally. He is everything she has always needed! I love that this story is written in third person and also pulls in other characters. Ms. Bentley leaves us with an idea of more couples stories (squeak!!! I love me a series!). Also, I really liked that the moment the couple confesses their feelings the book doesn’t immediately skip to a skinny epilogue and then boom (!) The End. No! Relationships aren’t like that! They require work! I also loved the integration of Luke’s PTSD and his chosen treatment of his disorder. All around, bravo! Fantastic, lovely, and sweet read! Oh! And of course, some delicious love scenes.

Losing her first love to war is hard enough but losing her parents shortly afterward is life-altering. Tally is a strong, resilient, single mom running her families ranch and then she wakes up one morning to find out Luke has been a POW for all these years, and not dead!?! Uhhhhh.. will he come back to his hometown? Will she see him again? Will she be able to tell him that he is a father? The emotions that come from this book just gut checks you, no other way of putting it. You are sitting there reading thinking the exact same thing Tally is. Or I was... The only thing that got Luke through his ordeal was getting back to Tally. Now that he is back, Luke has some work to do to win Tally back and he is willing to do it. All Luke knows is that Tally and he will be together and that is it. Fighting through his demons Luke and Tally have a push and pull dynamic throughout the book. Should Tally trust him again? Could she handle being abandoned again if they do not work out? But Luke is a headstrong, family man and nothing will stop him from fighting for what is his. Sitting here trying to put these words together about what I just read is just mind-boggling. I don’t normally read these types of books but I LOVE BJ Bentley’s writing. Well, AGAIN, Ms. BJ you have done it. I am speechless. I don’t know if I need to just cry it out or what. I do know all I wanna do is hug my family and not let go. I truly hope you read this book love it as much as I did. This is definitely a keeper. * ARC provided for an honest review **

BJ Bentley is a new to me author and I absolutely loved Coming Home! After being presumed dead while serving in the military Luke comes home to earn Tally back. I love a good second chance romance and this was was so sweet and loveable. The events that break up the two main leads are heartbreaking and I truly always was in love with Luke. What a dream H! I adored this second chance love story! The love story between Tally and Luke was so sweet but with so much heartbreak, they were separated 5 years prior when Luke enlisted in the military and was reported killed in action. The separation was brutal, Luke decided to break up with Tally the day before leaving for the army. He saw it as a way to protect her, just in case he did not make it back to her, but the reason for enlisting was to be able to provide for her in the future. He saw it as a way to protect her, just in case he did not make it back to her, but the reason for enlisting was to be able to provide for her in the future. She was everything to him, but he did not feel worthy and needed to prove his worth. Not knowing the reason for the break up, Tally is obviously devastated. Now five years later, Luke is found to be an actual POW and he is back to claim Tally. But now with the knowledge of his son, he is not going to back down to get his family. Tally can hold a mean grudge and really does not make things easy for Luke, but he was determined. I loved the scenes between Luke and Tuck, he took to being a father with such ease. Tuck was such a cute toddler, his obsession with “dino-roars” was so adorable! As for the journey to Luke and Tally’s HEA was tough, but once Tally was finally able to let go of the hurt, it was beautiful. I am a huge fan of epilogues and this one was awesome! I was so happy to read about their amazing family! Now I’m anxiously waiting for Noah and Emma Jean’s story!

Coming Home is the feel good romance you want to snuggle up on the couch to read. Tally is a strong, loving character that I forgot was only 23 with her cooking and mothering for all those who work at her farm. From the beginning to the end of the epilogue my heart was full for this family, and satisfied with their happily ever after. This was a nice change up from the usual dark romances of Author BJ Bentley and she has incredible range and amazing instincts for her characters, story and plot. W Coming Home is the feel good romance you want to snuggle up on the couch to read. Tally is a strong, loving character that I forgot was only 23 with her cooking and mothering for all those who work at her farm. I can't wait for the rest of the series!

Another great romance from Ms. Bentley This is the beginning of another riveting series. Tally is a woman who has overcome many challenges....and the Alpha hero, Luke, who is the love of her life has overcome challenges which are just as daunting. As alphas go, Luke seemed like a subtle Alpha male...which is hard to write, but the more Tally let's him in the more he asserts his alpha ways. I'm anxious to read the next book in this series and hope Fiona and/or Carter get their own book! Another great romance from Ms. Bentley This is the beginning of another riveting series. Loved it, This book is right up my alley! I learned to love ranches, cowboys and Montana from the like of authors like SJ McCoy. But this time, the cowboy is a strong woman who will do anything to raise her son and keep her ranch. I love single parent and second chance romance, and this is both, wrapped up with a hot, sexy vet, back from the dead, ready to win back his first love and the child he never knew. Plus, meet a great bunch of supporting characters that you will want to see get their HEA’s Loved it, This book is right up my alley! A wonderful, heartwarming story about love, mistakes, and forgiveness. I am not a fan of second-chance romances, but this was a great story with all the feels. Ms. Bentley gives strength to both her hero and heroine. I love how she develops her characters and her writing. She is a talented writer with a lot of heart herself. A most definite recommended read.

I received an ARC and I'm freely reviewing. This is book one in a new series. We meet Tally and Luke, high school sweethearts. Tally and Luke were all set to get married, live their happily ever after. Luke decided to shake up that plan without letting Tally know. Years later Luke is back, Tally is thrilled and yet conflicted. This was a great read. I received an ARC and I'm freely reviewing. This is book one in a new series. I fell in love with this story in the first chapter. I'm a huge lover of small town romances, throw in second chances and I'm hooked. The writing was phenomenal, the storyline beautiful. This was my first time reading this author, and I'm so excited I had the opportunity of finding a new to me author to love, looking forward to continuing this series! This book took me totally by surprise...and in a very good way!! Luke and Tally's story was at times, heart wrenching, heart warming, and steamy. The characters were well developed, the story well paced, just a solid, enjoyable read. And, it's FREE with your KU subscription!! This book took me totally by surprise...and in a very good way!!
