Now I doubt I'll need to know how to jump three stories into a street level dumpster, but if I do this book will have helped me. This is a nice bathroom reader, if you really want to use this in a survival scenario it will make a nice fire starter.

What a great reference book to keep in the bathroom or on the coffee table! There are some sections which really are completely irrelevant, but most of it is absolutely fascinating, not to mention hilarious. What do you do if the elevator starts to plummet? How do you leap off a building into a dumpster properly? What's the best way to wrestle an alligator and can it really be done? Want to escape from killer bees? Really good: When I bought this book, my girlfrind and some friend where making fun of me, but as soon as one of them started reading it, he couldn't let it down and everybody was reading it. It contains information that I hope I'll never need. It's funny, but at the same time the information provided was well researched. Great for having at your coffee table, since everyone will comment on it. I belive it might be useful also for actual surviving....

This is a handy little guide to get you out of a bunch of life’s difficult situations like, dealing with a snake bite, surviving a plane crash, and even how to tell if someone is lying to you. This handbook written by Joshua Piven was a very interesting read. Even though it was quite small, there were over 200 pages filled with different guides. I found it really helpful but I hope I will never have to use any of them. Some of the worst case scenario's and learning about what to do in the situation was pretty scary however was an eye opener. I recommend this book to everyone so that if they are in one of these situations, they know what to do.

After 2014, this is how I’m preparing in case 2015 tries to top it. (Half fun and useful, half disappointing common sense. Like, the way to survive an avalanche is to not get trapped in an avalanche. Touché!)

This book is about what you always wanted to know about all kinds of weird life-threatening situations but were either afraid to ask - or just weren't lucky enough to lay your hands on a book like this! If, just like me, you go about your daily chores wondering "what if"... What if a crodile bites your hand off? What if your car falls into a river? What if a shark wants to eat you? If, just like me, you go about your daily chores wondering "what if"... What if a crodile bites your hand off? What if your car falls into a river? What if a shark wants to eat you? What if you get lost in a desert? ... then this is the perfect read for you. Doesn't matter that the nearest crocodile is safely locked up in a zoo cage - or that I don't have a car - or that the sharks are scarse in this city - or even that there are few deserts in Europe, to say the least. Who cares? The authors are rightely pointing out throughout the whole book - "you just never know" - so better safe than sorry. And if you forget about the basic rules of dealing with the crocodile while you actually get attacked by one, well, than at least you had some fun reading while you were alive, right? And if that punch-in-the-eyes method doesn't work on that hungry shark snacking on your leg... then again, at least you tried. That thought will be with you when your soul goes to heaven (or wherever you believe the souls go after bodies get eaten by wild beasts). Jumping with a parachute that doesn't open (or any parachute at all) or diving in dangerous zones (or any diving for that matter) is, frankly speaking, on my "Never to do in this life" list. But isn't it great to know what could theoretically happen and what I could theoretically do? Highly recommended reading for all forever-scared-by-things-not-likely-to-happen girls and boys out there - we need to know, because "you just never know...". Neurotics of the world, unite! :)

I thought that, even though the chances of using most of the methods introduced in this book are very low, it is useful when I know them and it also helps my imaginations. Not only that, because the book tells extreme situations, just through reading the cases, I could imagine them happening and it was quiet a lot of fun going through these scenarios.

Fun, casual reading. This book quickly became popular when it came out some years ago, and I remember people talking about reading it to learn survival skills in case they might need to use them. I listened to this book with my boys and found it interesting and helpful! Believe it or not, we found a great number of these situations possible here in Texas... poisonous snakes, lightning, gators, jumping from a moving car. Of course some situations would not ever be possible ... jumping from a moving motorcycle to a moving car for one. I will definitely check out the other books in this series!

It's another one of those coffee table books that's funny to look through. And if I'm ever in a car that has plunged into the water, or am in the midst of a shark attack, I can truthfully say that I can most likely escape these situation unscathed. This whole series of books has the difficult but praiseworthy distinction of being funny and utilitarian at the same time.

While the totally serious topic matter - survival - might seem off-putting, this almost seems a bit light-hearted. I think that it does deserve a read (although a few sections might be less applicable today than they were when written...for instance, how to break into a car gives advice that might not help with more modern vehicles). I think that it does deserve a read (although a few sections might be less applicable today than they were when written...for instance, how to break into a car gives advice that might not help with more modern vehicles). This would be more helpful as something to use to prepare for future endeavors (say hiking or camping...might want to read up on how to escape from a bear or a mountain lion) rather than using during a crisis (can't see myself reading this during an earthquake to figure out where to best survive in my house). Other sections seems to be strange things to include in a book about survival...how to leap from a motorcycle to a car? I'm afraid that's something that I've never heard of anyone having to do to as a survival move. Stunt man...maybe. Survival? That's stretching it. All in all, it was interesting and informative. Quotes to remember: Resources and improvisation equals survival. You must not ignore the mental aspects of survival...you must stay calm and you must not panic. And remember that willpower is the most crucial survival skill of all...All these mental strengths especially come into play when someone makes a mistake - which is inevitable.

There is no telling how useful this book may be to you. People go on trips and vacations without ever suffering any sort of mishap, while others seem to run into nothing but trouble. With The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook, you will be able to eliminate at least 90% of your problems. So make sure you get a copy of this book, and the next time you go on a trip somewhere, make sure you slip the book into your duffel bag – just in case. How to Escape From Killer Bees: 1) If bees begin flying around and/or stinging you, do not freeze. Run away; swatting at the bees only makes them angrier. 2) Get indoors as fast as you can. 3) If no shelter is available, run through bushes or high weeds. This will help give you cover. 4) If a bee stings you, it will leave its stinger in your skin. Remove the stinger by raking your fingernail across it in a sideways motion. Do not pinch or pull the stinger out – this may squeeze more venom from the stinger into your body. Do not let stingers remain in the skin because venom can continue to pump into the body for up to ten minutes. 5) Do not just into a swimming pool or other body of water – the bees are likely to be waiting for you when you surface. Do you have trouble trying to break doors down? Well, if I just described you and you find yourself in these sketchy situations like me, this is the book for you ;). Every chapter is a new topic on how to survive. Which keeps it interesting. I also really enjoyed reading this book because it gives pictorial aids to help understand what exactly your trying to do. The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook prepares you for the events in life you might not know how to handle. As David Borgenicht says “The main thing that gets us men into dangerous situations is, well, ourselves.” When your in the moment and something bad and unexpected happens sometimes we tend to freeze up or freakout. By reading The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook you won't have that trouble anymore because you will be prepared and equipped for whatever situation you are thrown into. Last but not least you should consider reading this book because it makes you appear cool. Next time your with your friends playing man hunt and you’re running and come to a fence you will know how to jump it. Its over all just a fun, exciting book that teaches you how to do more things that everyday people might not know how to do. I hope this book report was useful. Thank you for your time and energy for reading this book report. That's about it peace out homie.

After all, why not save that painful churning in your gut for a situation that truly warrants it? This book tells you how to fend off a shark, land a plane, win a sword fight, treat a bullet wound, and—the classic—deliver a baby in a taxicab. And you were worried about giving a big presentation? Wait a minute! This book can even extricate you from a presentation that’s taken a bad turn. See the instructions for leaping from a building into a Dumpster. The authors say “it is entirely possible to survive a high fall (five stories or more) into a Dumpster, provided it is filled with the right type of trash (cardboard boxes are best) and you land correctly.” The trick is to jump straight down, then do a partial somersault to let you land back-first in the center of the receptacle. On impact, your body will form a “V.” (Bad news for belly floppers.) “The Worst-Case Scenario” lets me visit a parallel universe where my writing and design skills are far less important than knowing how to maneuver on top of a moving train and get inside. I can toggle between free agent and secret agent with the flip of a page. What software manual can do that? If knowledge is power, this educational, eerily entertaining book delivers a real boost.

I would have done some of the things in the what not to do box. The only thing I didn't like about this guide was how the some of the tips were to how to get out of dangerous things but it also suggests bad and dangerous stunts that kids could learn and do. This is a negitive. Overall I think this guide is fun to read and informational :)

There are special instructions on such things as “How to Kiss a Drooling Baby”, “How to Survive a Sex Scandal”, and “How to Write a Best-Selling Memoir” among other invaluable subjects. Mini-biographies are provided on 10 of the “worst of the worst” political figures (by way of example of what not to do) and much advice is quoted from numerous political figures both famous and infamous. For its size and its humorous intent, this really is a very informative and funny book with some really practical bits of advice slipped in with the “spoonful of sugar.”

It contains a bunch of little sections with illustrations, bullet point explanations, and explanatory paragraphs about a variety of things such as “How to Break Down a Door”, “How to Land a Plane”, “How to Leap from a Motorcycle to a Car”, and (if that fails) “How to Jump from a Moving Car”. You know, every-day practical kinds of things. Obviously I hope I would never have to use any Random, I know. You know, every-day practical kinds of things. Obviously I hope I would never have to use any of these, but you never know. And I think probably the better benefit of reading it is that while you may never get into any of these specific situations, it shows you how to approach those kinds of things and what you need to think about. It’s like experience: experience isn’t necessarily helpful because you’re going to get into that exact same situation over and over, it’s helpful because you can apply what you learned from different situations into your current one. I think I’ll actually throw this book into my glove box. After all, you never know when you might need to know “How to Identify a Bomb” or “How to Perform a Fast 180 Degree Turn with your Car”
