It's fun to read a novel that transpires over the course of around 48 hours. Lots of action in the pages. After a leave of absence, US Marshal Madison James returns to duty and working with partner Jonas on a spree of bank robberies. 'Her goal was to eliminate the threat and make sure they didn't open themselves to an attack.' I'd never read anything by Lisa Harris until I read her 2020 novel, The Escape, which was the first in her US Marshals series. The Chase is quite aptly titled, too, by the way. The two main protagonists are in a highly intenseful chase for fugitives who always seem to be one step ahead of them. Jonas Quinn and Madison James are partners in the US Marshals service and are incredibly good at their jobs. This time they are up against some bad guys who have every contingency all planned out, though, so they must find a way to up their game in order to capture these folks and stop the madness. I was so intrigued all the way by not only the writer's skill at creating such a great story, but at how these two law enforcement officers went about their jobs, deciphering clues and chasing off on the next lead. It was so interesting! 'She was the one who went after the criminals. Not the other way around.' At the same time that Jonas and Madison are chasing after these fugitives, Madison still hasn't solved a cold case from five years ago and one other devastating event. There is a spiritual thread here, a good, one, a smatter of romance, but the suspense is the king of this show! Hands down. It is high-octane suspense throughout! I could not stop reading, and I had chores to do. I couldn't wait to get back to the book when life interrupted. And there is another book in the series! Harris has created two main characters that nearly leap off the pages and who fit their roles so well that it's like watching a good crime drama. Goodness, it's even way better than a tv show! Honestly, this one is for the keeper shelf and to get read again. Well done! My thanks to Revell Books for a copy of this book via Net Galley. I was not expected to leave a positive review. The opinion here is expressly my own.

The Chase is a race filled with twists and complications. It is an engaging read and builds on book one while being enjoyable on its own. The characterization is rich, and the pacing great. It’s fascinating look at what the US marshals do.

A well-paced and plotted book with an intense race against time to catch bank robbers turned murderers. I definitely recommend reading this series in order because there are story elements started in the first book that aren't concluded there and this book doesn't have as much character growth as the first one did (since we already know who they are and what motivates them). This allows us to dive headfirst into the race to find the bad guys and to already be comfortable with our lead Marshals. “Run the race that the Good Lord set out for you to run” In this second book of the series, U S Marshal partners, Madison and Jonas are on the trail of four fugitives from a bank robbery gone wrong. But could this turn into something more? The excitement ramps up as they figure out where the fugitives are, but they are not sure all the clues are related to the present case. Could someone still be after Madison as she tries to uncover clues to her husband’s murder five years ago? As one story concludes, we will have to wait for other answers to be revealed in the third book of the series. Well plotted and thrilling, this book is a great story to get absorbed in. *I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell through Library Thing Early Reader program. The second book in the US Marshals series is fast paced and hits the floor running. We engage with many of the same characters as we met in the first book so we are familiar with them making for a very easy to follow but exciting story line. I thought this was a really interesting suspense premise and I liked how the “romance” of this “romantic suspense” book wasn’t heavy. This is more due to the reason that it’s a trilogy about Madison and Jonas, and therefore, is slower in that regard. But, regardless, I like the slower pace then them falling in love with each other within 300 or so pages. I was quite satisfied by the ending and am very much looking forward to reading the last book in the series next April. 3.5 star! The Chase was a suspenseful guessing-game read that was full of exciting plot twists and main characters that continued to grow in their personal walks. I liked the plot for the fugitives on book two better than I liked the storyline for the fugitive in book one but I also found that book one had more fast-paced moments. The Chase had more heart-to-heart conversations and the partners did a lot of checking in with each other to see how they were doing. I loved continuing their story (and even the side storyline with Madison's family!) One thing that kind of bothered me was the fact that the book took place over a very short time span. I'm pretty sure it was 3 days. The first day of Madison getting back to her job after recovering from the cliffhanger of book 1, lasted throughout the first half of the book. One day. And so much happened... Jonas Quinn. He's a pretty solid guy and one that is supposed to be well qualified for the job. Yet somehow he gets himself in situations where being the hero doesn't really work out for him. At least he was able to be the "superhero" once (which was pretty heroic!) As much as he was a good character, with a backstory more so in this book, the book series has a main focus on Madison. And the true mystery is solving her husbands murder. Madison James. I really like her character. She's funny here and there and she doesn't let her guard down even if she's got a lot going on. She's not perfect though, and the readers get glimpses into a more vulnerable character. She's also quick on her feet and the two US Marshals make a great team because they each think for themselves. She wasn't afraid to voice her opinions even if they differed from his (and vise versa). Madison is also a nice one to have around if you ever crave pancakes while deserted on a island! XD The bank robbery plot was done well but I would have liked to see more of a "wow" ending for that particular plot line. However, like the first book, the cat-and-mouse chase that took up most of the book ends more abruptly than you'd think and the real mystery is Luke's death. Overall, this book gave me more and more clues for the "big" mystery and I can't wait to read book 3 in this series when it releases next year! *Thank you to Revell Reads for a complementary copy of this new release!

Lisa Harris is my go-to author when I'm in the mood for fast-paced action and a slow-burn romance! My only reprieve (chance to catch my breath) came when Madison and Jonas would share a private moment. These people are one step ahead with well laid plans and back up plans. But Madison and Jonas are determined to find them as well as is their boss and others, especially since innocent people have been killed. Madison and Jonas work well together and both have some emotional baggage to work through but there is also a hint that there could be more. Once more, Lisa Harris has written a story that is engaging and full of action to the end and yet has secondary stories of the characters to give them a well rounded, normal and realistic life. This is the second book in the series and I didn't read the first not knowing it continued from book one. If I had realized that, I would have read book one for better frame of reference on the characters. The suspense thread is standalone because it's a new case but I felt like the romance picked up from book one and may even carry into book 3. For that reason, I'd recommend you read the series in order. All in all, I liked it. The suspense was great and kept me invested to see how it goes. This action-packed novel kept me glued to my seat and took me for a ride! Madison and Jonas are back in the second installment of the US Marshals series. Madison and Jonas are back in the second installment of the US Marshals series. I didn't read the first book, and while I always recommend reading a series in order, you could read this as a stand-alone...but I think you might have better context for some of what Madison is dealing with if you read the first book. There has been a series of bank robberies and Madison and Jonas have been provided with the identity of someone that might have been involved. What ensues is a chase (haha see what I did there?!) against the clock and the perpetrators to catch them before more people are harmed or they get away and are not brought to justice for their crimes. I loved the fast pace of this novel taking me across Seattle and over to the San Juan Islands. I wasn't sure what to expect next and enjoyed how the mystery unfolded. I was quite surprised by a few twists with the robbers and this author knows how to keep you on edge wondering what could possibly happen next. There is a bit of romance between Madison and Jonas, or at least the possibility of trying a relationship to see if anything might come of it. I also appreciated the inspirational discussions and putting their faith in a higher power and letting things happen as they might. These discussions were also good for Jonas considering what happened with an old girlfriend and believing that all things happen for a reason. I think it also gave him some closure once he took some time to mentally process what happened. There is also the case of who killed Madison's husband? This has created a mental block for Madison but we see some glimpses of what might have happened but we will have to wait for the next book (or books) to learn the truth. This is a series that I will be looking forward to and watching the relationship between Madison and Jonas expand and what case could come their way next. We give it 5 paws up.

I can't imagine anything worse. How would you feel safe again? She has a partner by the name of Jonas Quinn that helps her recover. They form a strong bond. When Madison comes back to work, things begin to spiral out of control. There was a bank robbery and a security guard is mortally wounded. The hunt begins. These crooks plan a lot of heists and love the adrenaline thrill of "getting away" with a crime. We also find out that Madison's husband was killed in the parking lot after one of his shifts at the hospital five years ago. Madison has tried to find his killer and also whoever was responsible for shooting her. It is a shame that both of these mysteries have not been solved. Madison is wondering if the two crimes are connected. Jonas is falling in love with Madison. Madison is afraid that she will put her partner in danger if she lets herself fall in love with Jonas. I was a bit disappointed in the ending of this story, but all in all, I thought the author did an excellent job with all the action, suspense, and romance in this book. Because of all that was involved, I finished this book very quickly. because it really held my interest. "This book was provided courtesy of Revell through Interviews & Reviews."

Instead, they were caught in the crosshairs between four criminals who had turned desperately dangerous. It certainly wasn't how Madison had planned to begin her first day back on the job after recovering from a gunshot wound, but backing down wasn't an option for either of them . . . let the chase begin. This accelerated suspense begins and ends on very high notes, but personally I wanted the story to dig a little deeper into the psyches of Madison and Jonas through personal conversations rather than internal musings, as they tip-toe around their growing affection for one another. Both are struggling with questions that don't have easy answers. Both have suffered great loss. Both carry a reoccurring burden of guilt. Fortunately, they both have a relationship with the One whose desire is that they "trust Him through the journey, even when it doesn't make sense". In other words, the author has set up her readers to highly anticipate the next chapter in their story. And it's guaranteed to be a good one!

The Chase by Lisa Harris is the second book in her US Marshals series. U.S. Marshal Madison James is ready to get back out in the field after having been shot three months ago. Her partner, Jonas Quinn, wants her to ease back into work. When they respond to a bank robbery, things begin to escalate. Now they’re on the hunt for the fugitives who seem to be always one step ahead. The chase takes you from Seattle to the San Juan Islands. "The Chase" is a Christian romantic suspense novel. This is the second book in a series and continues the story of US Marshals Madison and Jonas, but it can be read as a standalone. You can understand what's going on without reading the first book (though a little more recap about Jonas and his ex-girlfriend might've been helpful), and this book didn't spoil the events in the first book. The problems that I had with the first book in this series were not present in this one. The main characters reacted realistically to events. Madison dealt with the uncertainty of who shot her and the feeling of insecurity that created. Jonas dealt with grief over suddenly losing someone he cared about. Both stayed focused and professional in pursuing the fugitives, but these issues kept weighing on them. They steadily followed up on the clues to identify and capture the four fugitives. The suspense came from the need to capture the fugitives before they completely escaped the country and from the danger to themselves and others. Madison and Jonas worked well together and trusted the other's skills and instincts. They built each other up and supported each other. Jonas finally acknowledged his love for Madison but she struggled with starting a new relationship while her husband's cold case murder was still unsolved. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I recommend this exciting suspense novel. I received an ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.

I'm a fan of Lisa Harris' suspense novels! The first book in this US Marshals series was excellent, and I knew I'd like this one as well. This is again about Madison and her partner Jonas. As do other series by Lisa Harris, this one also has one long mystery thread running through. So in addition to the bank robberies, Madison is still trying to solve the mystery of who shot her husband, and why. And it seems as though she is still on the hunt too. If only she could get a better feel of what is really going on there. f you enjoy suspense, please don't miss this one! I like reading the author they take care of and Ms. Harris is at the top of their list. She is one with a pen that provides an exciting story in a moderate pacing and plots that are easy to follow. Although bank heists are subjects often seen in books and in movies nothing really original there but what make this story different if how the author drives the narrative by giving us a chase where the protagonists not only face immediate danger and dramatic events but melts into the suspense a sweet side where they struggle with their inner selves. I enjoy being a member of the first reviewer program and I wish to thank the publisher Revell for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Book 2 in the US Marshal series. Madison James and Jonas Quinn whom we met in The Escape are chasing 4 bank robbers. Madison is not totally healed from being shot a few months before or her husband’s unsolved murder, but wants to get back to work. Trusting God even when it does not make sense. Intrigue, suspense, mystery, thrilling action and romance tied up in a nice bow. That was this book. It was beautiful to read how the character's faith came to play in their job as law enforcement. I admired the camaraderie between Maddison and Jonas. Thrilling and inspiring book. 3.5-3.75 stars (rating shown may vary depending on the site). I have read this author before though I don't know if I read the first book in the series. The title sounds familiar but I don't remember the characters. I disagree with some of the other reviewers. Perhaps I've just read the genre too much lately, but I'm tired of it taking a life-and-death situation in order to admit that you love someone. And the life-or-death situation usually happens to the woman with the man having to save her. I do like that the author didn't feel compelled to have the characters married by the end of the book. And it appears that they've known each other for several years, which is an improvement over the usual "we just met each other and in a few months we're engaged or married" that is common to the genre. Note: I received an ARC of this book through LibraryThing's Early Reviewers Program.

A good continuation of the first book but a other cliffhanger of sorts. The aisle part of this book is solid. The cases are interesting and "The Chase" is quite a trip all over the place. However, I'm not sure this book really classifies as a romance. Maybe the series as a whole will have a happily ever after, but the first two books have just had cliffhangers. This was the second book in the US Marshals series by Lisa Harris, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this was a continuation of the previous book in the series, rather than being told from an alternate perspective, like many suspense trilogies are apt to do. I was really invested in the storyline from the previous book, and I was really glad that it came back and is being told in this book. I was really invested in the storyline from the previous book, and I was really glad that it came back and is being told in this book. It did take me a couple chapters to get back into the book: I’d forgotten some of the details surrounding the last book, but all the details were well presented and I started remembering what each of the plot points were as I continued on in the book. Like in other Lisa Harris books I’ve read, I am a little skeptical of some of the details regarding how this case was solved and the legality of some of the players within this book. For instance, the events of most of this book happen on Madison’s first day back at work after being shot, and I have a really hard time thinking that she would be allowed to go investigate a bank robbery on the first day back, you know? I was a little skeptical about the fact that the intern (presumably a college student?) was allowed to touch a lot of the evidence and sift through data and stuff: the legality of things like that seems suspect at best. The fact that Jonas’ ex just , , , happened to be at one of the crime scenes so that they could wrap up loose ends?? was SO strange and out of place?? Some suspension of disbelief has to happen to enjoy this book for sure. I really did enjoy reading the secondary (overarching) narrative that has threaded through both books from this series: the mystery of who killed Madison’s husband Luke is honestly more intriguing than the main suspense story line, and I was excited to see it pick up again in this book. The ending felt really rushed: the action was fast paced up until around the 85% mark of the book, and then it . . . just all got resolved neatly? Which didn’t really seem like it would fit with how the rest of the book had gone. The pacing was a little off: there were some scenes that took several pages but was only a few minutes, but then a few scenes that were time-wise really long but described in a few sentences. There’s probably a more technical term for it, but all I know is that the timing was a little difficult to follow in places. The romance thread was stronger in this one, which was honestly to be expected. I wasn’t a huge fan of how it progressed, but I did expect it to be stronger, due to the overlying story arc of the series. Overall, I did enjoy this book, although I found it unmemorable and pretty standard to any other Christian suspense fiction book. The story kept me reading, and with a bit of suspension of disbelief, it is a good read for a quiet afternoon.
