He’s sent to the Highland Court and immediately falls for lady-in-waiting, Isabella Dunbar. The strong, mutual attraction makes both Isabella and Dedric possessive of the other. Sadly, Dedric hasn’t been exactly straightforward with Isabella. Can a relationship based on a lie survive? A Spy at the Highland Court is a well-written second installment. The characters are interesting, vibrant, and well-developed. The plot is compelling with great twists and holds the reader’s attention. This is a 5 out of 5 star read, and I recommend it to all readers of romantic suspense and medieval romance. I loved both Ric & Isa who were attracted to each other from their first chance meeting in the market & this attraction just grew & grew. I loved the road to their HEA, it wasn’t easy but it was thoroughly engaging & made for an engrossing read that I read in two sittings. I also loved that the author conveyed the harshness of life seven hundred years ago My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Having read many books by this author, mostly about Vikings, I was excited to read this one and knew it was going to be good. After a battle against the Scots that did not go well, the King orders him to Scotland to his mother's clan, where he was born, to send back information to help the English. He then travels to Stirling Castle, the home of Robert the Bruce to become incased in his household so he can find out more information to send back to King Edward. Fate steps in when he meets Isabella Dunbar, one of the ladies in waiting and he struggles with his desire to support the Scots, where his heart truly lies. A story that warmed my heart seeing the love develop between Ric and Isabella and the journey they took to find happiness.

Amazing story from the Highland Court of Robert the Bruce. Dedric Hartley is caught between a rock and a hard place - two Kings. Isabella Dunbar is a Lady-in-Waiting at the Court, sent by her father as payment for a wrongdoing. The attraction between these two is instant and hot. With Ric's tenuous position of spy, their relationship is in jeopardy, as is their lives. This is an epic tale of love, honour, trust and courage that spans across the border of England and Scotland. Dedric is a knight for King Edward of England but not by choice. When time came for his release from tenure Edward gave him one last assignment. To spy for him while at his mother's clan the MacLellans. He spent his life under English rule and ridiculed for his parent’s heritage. His father was great English Knight who went to war and instead found love with Ric's Scottish mother. Ric's father turned his back on King Edward's service and swore fealty to King Bruce of Scotland. Ric's early life was not a happy one after his parents were murdered, but it was better than most. When he finally was reunited with his mother's clan, he knew he could not follow through with King Edward's plan. The story covers how he had to give misinformation to the informant who was a thorn in his side. But when he met Isa there was no doubt of the connection between them was beyond lust. King Bruce send Ric on his own mission only to be misunderstood by Isa. He was trying to protect her but all he did was drive her away. They reconciled and married. They left Stirling to their own keep near Isa's father's keep. Again, Isa learned of some of his subversive duties and ran. When Ric found her, they were completely honest with each other and Isa now understood why he wanted to protect her. Now back at their keep information that the English was destroying crops, crofts and killing. He and his went out only to find out it was a ruse. An ambush waited for he and his men. When they got back to the keep it was under siege by the English. They fought and won. But Isa was on the verge of death. Ric was shocked she even lived. During the ambush the informant told him Isa was dead. It took three weeks for her to regain conscientiousness. Isa's father could see it was a love match between them and released Ric from his duty to him. He wanted Ric to take Isa as far away from the danger as he could. I was delighted that characters from previous books were included in this story as it brought back fond memories for me about them. One question I had that was not addressed was what Ric overheard in the Scriptorium. Ah well ... perhaps it will be for a future story. An excellent read and I highly recommend it.

A Spy at the Highland Court by Celeste Barclay is kind of a complicated story, with complicated relationships. It becomes a problem when he likes and respects the family he discovers, the MacLellans. He strives still to follow his quest and obtains a letter of introduction from his cousin, the laird, to King Robert. Things really get complicated once he arrives at court, between a young woman to whom he is attracted, an old lover who is acting as another spy for King Edward, and the fact he genuinely likes these people and feels at home with them. Can he tread the careful line between the two monarchs and keep his life and his love? This is a terrific story. Full of intrigue, romance, self-recrimination, jealousy, and war. I found it totally appealing. Ric (Dedric) feels his roots to he very soul and tries to be honorable as well as respecting his mission, until he can no longer. He ladylove, Isa, is insecure but brave, willing to fight for Ric and fight for her people. Lady Arabella is a thorn in her side who makes her question her own feelings for Ric and his for her, but eventually it all comes round. I love this book. It is full of all the necessary components for a great read. I highly recommend it. I have to say this is an usually review for me as I have now read this book twice. I read it as part of the De Wolfe Pack and now it is the second book in the Highlands Ladies. Unfortunately, I didn't do a review the first time. Something I never do, so I went back and reread an ARC of the new vision. Dedric Hage has been raised by King Edward since he was a young boy. That is not to be, Edward now wants him to spy on his late mothers' people the MacLellan. Isabella Dumbar has been a Lady in waiting for the Queen at the Court of Robert the Bruce since she was just fourteen. She was part of a peace offering so her father could get back in the Kings favor again. She is now twenty-one and still serving. Dedric and Isa have two accidental meetings and both find an unbelievable attention to the other. Neither has every felt like this or acted like they do with anyone else. I could say a lot of about this story but it would take away from your reading it. If you love historical romance with lots of action and some heat this is the book for you. It has so much going on with lots of twist and turns, the English, the Scots, double agents, hidden secrets, spiteful women, along with strong family ties and a love for the ages. I received an ARC for the last book and want to thank the author. This is my honest opinion and am freely giving it.

I loved Dedric and Isabella’s story! Once Dedric saw her his heart was lost to her. These are fabulous characters you can’t help but root for, a strong, brave and noble knight with conflicting loyalties, a kind, brave, intelligent and strong woman who immediately feel a connection and share a passion for one another. I enjoyed how caring and sweet Dedric was in explaining the marriage bed to Isabella. The dialogue was beautiful, witty and even funny at times. The imagery was so vivid and descriptive. The story is filled with emotions, intrigue, spying, traitors, danger, drama and secrets that keeps you captivated to the end. Thank you so much Celeste for this wonderful story so beautifully told!

I really enjoyed this one! This was such an original story line. A half English, half Scottish hero who is sent to the Scottish royal court to act as a spy for the English King Edward. It's a bumpy and suspenseful road for Ric and Isa to their HEA! I'm a big fan of Celeste's Clan Sinclair series and it was so much fun to have this beloved family make an appearance in this one! Dedric Hage is a pawn in the manoeuvres of two kings. He longs for his Scottish roots but is sent instead on a distasteful mission, one that is hampered even before he leaves the English court. Ric's first glance at Isabella Dunbar brings his heart to a stutter and when he finds her in the castle, his excitement knows no bounds. The plot is excellent and the author's writing skills are very evident. I enjoyed this book immensely.

I really enjoyed Dedric and Isabella’s story. Dedric is half Scottish and half English sent to spy on the Scottish court by the English King. He was raised in the English court after he was kidnapped when his parents were murdered. Dedric has always felt that Scotland was his home. While at the Scottish court he meets Isabella and their attraction is instantaneous. Isabella is at the Scottish court for her safety. She was given to the court as a peace offering between the Scottish King and her father. There is a lot of twists and turns in this story. Secrets, spy’s, double agents, and family connections make this story that much more intriguing. Can they trust each other enough to drop their guard to get their HEA? I recommend this book to anyone who likes a historical romance with action, espionage, passion, spy’s family ties, and characters that will do anything to save their love. We have a hero who doesn't know what to expect and is being stalked by someone with mischievous or is it evil intent.   We also have a brave and intelligent heroine who will not be treated as property.   If you have read any other books in this "World" you might recognize some of the secondary characters.  This book is easily read as a stand alone.   A very entertaining read.

A Story With Heart This book was a book difficult to put down. You will experience many emotions as you travel the journey this book takes you on. Some of these are: Ire, Sorrow, Empathy, Sympathy, Angst (but just the right amount), Humor (to the point of laugh out loud funny) and of course romance! When this story ends you will have been given all the whys and how comes behind her storyline . When I finished this book I knew that I would have to follow up with and read the stories about this Author's Sinclair Clan. Oh, you will also get a Happy Ever After ending!

Another intriguing story for the Highland Ladies series. Dedric Hartley is part English (Father) and part Scottish (Mother). After his parents were murdered, he was taken to England, where he became a Knight and forced to fight against the Scots. His last duty before freedom: go spy on King Robert the Bruce. Upon meeting his Scottish family, he changed allegiance. He arrived at the HIghland Court to obtain a piece of land but received so much more. Celeste never fails you. This story is about Dedric and Isabella. Ric was taken in you could say by King Edward after a raid takes him from his Scottish clan and home. Ric has no love for him but as a knight he's been tasked to spy on Scottish King Robert. He takes the task but as he gets to know lady in waiting Isa his heart is captured by not only her but his Scottish roots. As a spice Ric walks a fine line in his devotions. Which will win? Reading the love between Ric and Isa was intense. I a Celeste never fails you. This story is about Dedric and Isabella.
