I kinda put this one off cause I didn't really like these guys (I don't know why) from what we see in the previous books and I was worried we'd see too much of the jerk from The Sound of White and I wasn't ready to have him ruin another story. I was really glad he was only briefly mentioned once. Once I started though I couldn’t stop. Cute, low key, minimal angst. For such a quick read the author did a really good job of selling the emotion. I liked Kai and Quade, the love and uncertainty between them were both very believable. I hate that one had to give up something in order to have the other in their life because of circumstances, but at least the reasoning was there.

Awww, I wasn't sure Quade and Kai were going to make it, I couldn't see anyone else being mayor, but now that I know who I think will take his place, it's going to be amazing! And Kai... he was so cute and selfless, wanting to do whatever he could just to be with Quade. I just loved it. It was also nice seeing a different side to Carol, I didn't care for her before but seeing why she is the way she is, I'd be a little jaded too. Great read! On to the next! Not my favorite of the series. Plot seemed a little scattered. Quade is the mayor of Cattle Valley, but he's been so sad since coming back from Hawaii. He met the love of his life there and can't bear to be apart from Kai. The relationship seems to be doomed as a long distance affair until Quade makes a decision that will change both their lives forever. Not my favorite of the series. Plot seemed a little scattered.

Quade Madison is the Mayor of Cattle Valley, WY, and is missing the hot surfer he met 10 months ago. He's been grouchy ever since he came back from vacation so long ago, and can't wait another two months to go see Kai. Kai Hachiya is a young surfer from Hawaii who struggled the past season, missing the guy who stole his heart. He makes a surprise visit to WY to see Quade, but real life intrudes. And the realities of different lives in different parts of the country are also concerns. This one was quite cute. I like that there was no easy fix for this relationship. Quade is adorable eventhough he is an older guy.

The brief Romance could very likely have been chalked up to a fling and filed away as a happy, horny memory. However, neither men never stopped longing for one another since of their time together ended. Letting go was not in the cards, it seemed. But with Quade happy in his role as mayor of his beloved Cattle Valley and Kai on the fast track to become a surfing champion in Hawaii, how could the two men have a realistic shot at a future together? The long distance relationship would be difficult enough to navigate, not to mention the 12 year difference in age... Recommended for fans of M/M who love happy, horny stories with unlikely happy, horny endings.

3.25* Review written for Love Bytes Reviews. I will admit that I was a little iffy about getting into this next installment of the series. I mean, up to this point, Quade has been seen in several of the previous books but I was pretty much under the impression that he was Cattle Valley’s own version of Oscar the Grouch. Not really much to recommend someone when that’s the mental image you have associated with them, you know? I will admit that I was a little iffy about getting into this next installment of the series. I mean, up to this point, Quade has been seen in several of the previous books but I was pretty much under the impression that he was Cattle Valley’s own version of Oscar the Grouch. Not really much to recommend someone when that’s the mental image you have associated with them, you know? That being said, the story was better than I had been expecting and Quade did pretty thoroughly redeem himself by the end. Quade and Kai met about a year ago when Quade went on vacation to Hawaii and ever since he’s returned home, he can’t stop thinking about the younger man. Unbeknownst to him, said younger man hasn’t been able to stop thinking about Quade, either. Unable to focus on surfing, Kai takes a chance and a flight out to Cattle Valley to see Quade in the hopes that the other man has missed him just as much. While I have no problems with the set up of the story, past the initial reunion between these two men, the story kind of just goes as follows: they’re reunited and then separated at which point they each begin to pine for the other. Oh! They’re reunited again…and then separated…I’m fairly certain you’re getting the point. I liked the long distance relationship aspect of the story but all of Kai and Quade’s interactions revolved around the same stuff time and time again and there wasn’t really anything to draw and keep my attention. Now, Quade did at least get more depth added to his character and it was nice actually getting to see him with some of his family which helped flesh out his back story but you don’t get the same with Kai. The ending was pretty much inevitable, and I was fine with that as everyone liked a happy ending, but the book also cut off rather abruptly and I was left with ‘wait, that’s it?’. The writing was good and the story was enjoyable in general; for the series itself it didn’t really do much for me and this will probably get marked down as my least favorite so far. It was nice to finally get Quade’s story and to see that there was more to the man than just an intolerable attitude in need of adjustment but I’m not sure I’ll end up reading this one again in the future. I’d say this is worth the read if you’ve enjoyed the rest of the series so far, mainly to keep up to date with the overall story line but on its own I could honestly take it or leave it depending on the day.

In the past books on the Catlle Valley gay soap opera it seemed that everyone found love in this Wyoming small town. But there is one man that has found love elsewhere, and it's just the first citizen, the major of Cattle Valley. During his last winter holiday, Quade fell in love for Kai, a younger professional surfer; their relationship was doomed, 12 years of age difference and thousand of mile of distance divided the two lovers, but that seems not important for their heart. After 10 months Quade is still pining for Kai, and Kai decides to surprise his lover; he arrives in Cattle Valley during one of the worst snow storm ever: not exactly the right impression for Kai to have of the city Quade loves so much. Kai is all in all a tropical flower and to force him to live in Wyoming is like killing his joy. I like how Carol Lynne built Kai's character: he is young and naivee, all in all the innocent young man you will expect from someone who has always lived day per day in a free style manner. Kai has never really had much trouble in his life, he is content with the few he has and he doesn't wish for more, at least not now. But he is not selfish, he would be ready to turn upside down his life for the love of Quade. Problem is that it's quite obvious that where Quade probably would be able to live everywhere, it's not the same for Kai. As I already noticed in the previous books, there is an high and down pacing in this series: some books are very moving, almost dramatic, some others are nice and quiet, without too much angst. This one belongs to the second type: Quade and Kai are already in love when the book starts, so there is no play of take and let it go between them, and the reader knows that they have only to find a way to shorten the distance between them (and not only the physical one). The big question is: will Quade leave the winter paradise of Cattle Valley, or will Kai discover that he can be a surfer also in Cattle Valley, maybe with a board on the snow instead that on the sea? http://www.amazon.com/dp/1907010904/?...

I've never read any of the Cattle Valley books, and I am not sure I will, as I found the setup and characters in general quite one dimensional and stereotypical. Even though this was a very easy read, I did enjoy the story of Kai and Quade and their realistic approach of trying to make a relationship work. The story evaluates many relevant aspects of living seperate lives and coming from very different backgrounds, which makes the main characters very loveable. I think this was my favorite book in the series so far. I didn't know much about Quade the town's mayor from the previous books but I really liked him! Kai was by far my favorite character so far though... something about Hawaiian surf boys just really makes me happy :) Apparently Quade feels the same way! This journey was too short for me! I think I may be biased because I loved them so much but full length would have been nice for these guys! I think this was my favorite book in the series so far. A nice, light love story...never felt we were in Hawaii or anywhere near the surf, in spite of the title but Quade and Kai, the two male leads are sweet and appealing. The scenes in Wyoming feel more real and I liked all the detail of snow and dealing with inclement weather. Those secenes were convincing and winning.

I'm not quite sure why it took so long for Quade to get a clue....Hawaii or Wyoming. I don't think it would be a hard choice for me. Awww, this was so sweet! I loved the story and characters.
