When I bought both parts of this series almost 13 years ago, I was reading only fictions then, and had bought these in the anticipation that these would open a window to the world of non-fiction. However, as over the years I have already dug deep into the realm of non-fiction, I really didn't find the necessity to read this book. However, as over the years I have already dug deep into the realm of non-fiction, I really didn't find the necessity to read this book. After I had read the first one, I realized this collection of excerpts from celebrated non-fictions published by Penguin Books are not intended to provide any structural information to the readers, but to as trailers to the readers to buy those books instead. I skimmed through the book nevertheless, as I was unaware of most of the writers and their works, the topics ranging from politics, cricket, bollywood, biographies and memoirs. This collection has the book excerpts of some of the writers, whose work I am already familiar with -Jawaharlal Nehru, APJ Abdul Kalam, J Krishnamurti, R K Laxman, RamChandra Guha, Sadat Hasan Manto, Pratap Bhanu Mehta, Suketu Mehta, Bimal Jalan, Pupul Jayakar, Bachi Karkaria, Sunil Khilnani, R M Lala, and Osho. However, these are the writers I got introduced to through this collection and would love to read their books - Pico Iyer, Christophe Jaffrelot, Sudhir Kakar, Mukul Kesavan, Amitava Kumar, Harsh Mander, Gita Mehta, Ved Mehta, Madhushree Mukherjee, Rudragshu Mukherjee, Sudha Murty, Ashis Nandy and Renuka Narayan.

Wondeful collection of diverse articles on myriad issues. Great blend of fine thoguhts except few crap ones on Godhra riots particularly the one by Dionne Bunsha ( Venomous article spilling out a false story ).
