Americans were enthralled by a woman with charm, ambition, natural political talent, and a passion for conservative values. But the fascination of ordinary people quickly drew an unprecedented attack from the media elite and liberal activists. Far beyond the normal bounds of tough questions and challenges, Palin's enemies decided that nothing was too personal to attack-including her marriage, her children, her faith, and her wardrobe. The media distorted Palin's positions and beliefs beyond recognition. And almost every word out of her mouth was spun as a "flub." Weekly Standard writer Matthew Continetti reveals the true story of the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee and her persecution by the elites who tried to hide their bias with solemn declarations of objectivity. Continetti offers fresh examples of malicious spin and deceit and shows how liberal snobbery has become a driving force in American politics. Palin's ordeal has become a rallying cry for the GOP in the Obama era. This perceptive book is a must-read for conservatives who want to understand what really happened-and how to avoid a repeat.

The Persecution of Sarah Palin: How the Elite Media Tried to Bring Down A Rising Star. By Matthew Continetti 2009 Penguin Although I hesitate defending Sarah Palin, this book is another example of how the media attempts to silence a strong minded women that speaks her mind. I do question alot of her policies, her motives and her decsions. And I disagree with alot, but not all of her choices as the Governor of Alaska. Her political moves were shrewd and underhanded, very self serving in many ways. Bu The Persecution of Sarah Palin: How the Elite Media Tried to Bring Down A Rising Star. Her political moves were shrewd and underhanded, very self serving in many ways. But these were her beliefs and opinions. Attacking her husband, her family, her religious beliefs....using these things to attempt to taint people's opinion in a negative way, was unnecessary and had nothing to do with her career. Palin did have many ethics complaints and accusations and paid many fines. She is not an innocent. But her family is. Very interesting, but opinionated slant on her political run....hard to put down...

Finally, a book that actually talked about what Sarah Palin actually did as mayor of Wasilla and governor of Alaska, information that would have been much more useful than the MSM's obsession with her clothes and what magazines she reads. This book also highlights the dozens, even hundreds of mean, nasty, irrelevant and untruthful things the media said about her. It delves into the worldview of the media and why she brought out the worst in them, and examines how Obama and Biden got free passes Finally, a book that actually talked about what Sarah Palin actually did as mayor of Wasilla and governor of Alaska, information that would have been much more useful than the MSM's obsession with her clothes and what magazines she reads. It delves into the worldview of the media and why she brought out the worst in them, and examines how Obama and Biden got free passes in the same areas where the media scorched Palin. A Palin-hater would see this book as one-sided. The author doesn't come across as a Palin apologist as far as her policies are concerned, but he does come to her defense as far as the media's treatment of her in the same way we would come to the defense of even someone we weren't crazy about if they were being mercilessly beaten up by the schoolyard bully. He also gives a fascinating explanation of the history of her two years as Alaska governor, and how her polices and handling of corrupt officials had made her a lot of enemies ... enemies who were only too glad to provide fodder for a the mainstream media hungry to take the opinions of bitter foes and turn them into anti-Palin attacks. An easy read, and one that was hard to put down.

I’ve read three or four books on the election of 2008 and read articles/reviews of about a half dozen others. I can’t imagine any other ones being more indispensable than this book – if there’s any question of the media’s allegiances after reading this, I have to question a lot of things. Really not a lot of new information for me, but a lot of good information piled into one place.

there were really a lot of things i had to say about this book, but the very last sentence really sums them up nicely: "in truth, we only know two things for sure. sarah palin is not going anywhere, and neither is the press, which hunts for forever with THE BLOODLUST OF A FERAL BEAST." fin.

Palin supporters will be appalled at the lengths to which her enemies went to destroy her.
