   I found this old book in a college library when trying to do research on the South American wars of the late-1860s time frame. I was interested because, according to some old newspaper accounts, one of my ancestors was involved, possibly fighting there as a mercenary. Well, of course, I found nothing about the colorful ancestor, but I did find a remarkable story here about an Irish woman who married Francisco Lopez, the dictator of Paraguay, and drove him into a disastrous war with Brazil and Arg I found this old book in a college library when trying to do research on the South American wars of the late-1860s time frame. The story reminded me quite of bit of Macbeth (with a conclusion rather like Richard II), and I've often thought that somebody could turn it into a great movie.
