I had to read this for school. To tell you the truth? I found this unenjoyable, and also these type of books aren't really my favourite. I had to read this for school. To tell you the truth? I found this unenjoyable, and also these type of books aren't really my favourite.

Soldier on Hill is an intriguing book about a young boy called Joey, who is growing up in Australia during the war between Japan and Australia. So far in his life, Joey has always been told and has always thought the Japanese to be evil, cruel men, but when he finds a lone Japanese soldier on the hill near his house, his thoughts and opinions begin to change. “Soldier on the Hill” by Jackie French is one for the young history buffs. A quietly unfolding, gentle story, portraying the minutiae of everyday life in country Australia during World War 2. Joey Smith is a sympathetic young protagonist, beset with nightmares of Japanese soldiers and of his father in the Australian army, missing since the fall of Singapore. Young readers who enjoy this book might also enjoy Paul Jennings’ “How Hedley Hopkins Did a Dare…” and “Captain Mack’s War” by James Roy. This was a very sad book the first chapter I was hooked. but when I was only hooked when James was over at Gallipoli or his training. The middle of the book I was trying not to skim read. But It was a beautiful book.
