This Ready to Read book tells the story of Abe Lincoln rescuing a pig from a mud hole on his way to giving a speech. The book is short but gives an age appropriate amount of facts on Lincoln which illustrate his character. It's a great introduction to Abraham Lincoln for young elementary readers.

This biography of Abe Lincoln is great for kids who are four and older. I would rate this book five stars out of five because it does a perfect job at telling a story and also mentions history and the characteristic of Abe Lincoln. I would rate this book five stars out of five because it does a perfect job at telling a story and also mentions history and the characteristic of Abe Lincoln. This book is about Abe Lincoln’s journey as he goes to make an important speech. Abe dresses in a nice new black suit to give his speech, when on his way he witnesses a muddy pig. This pig seemed stuck, and Abe loved to help animals, but he could not get his suit muddy so he walks away. Shortly he realizes that he wanted to help the pig and ends up messing up his new suit. However the audience only wanted to hear what Abe had to say and didn’t say anything to him as they talked to him after his speech. I think that by telling a great/funny story while telling history is a great way to keep a young readers attention! I would definitely read this book to my class; the pictures make the story even better!

I do have to say that in this book, the illustrations of Abraham Lincoln looked not at all like himself and very much like Joel Osteen. It was a bit odd. One of my kids commented that some of the facial expressions were creepy. I thought it comical. I kept forgetting we were reading about Abe Lincoln. :-O The story was good, though. :-)

An excellent introduction to a historical look at a young Abe Lincoln. I loved the Childhood of Famous Americans series by Childbook in Chicago back in the day when the illustrations were 2 color line drawings. This would be a similar, but shorter version concentrating on one single event in Lincoln's life as a young man with colored illustrations to make you want to pick it up. It is an engaging story of "doing the right thing" even when it is inconvenient and dirty.

This fictional account tells the story of Abe Lincoln as a young man. Dressed in a new suit for a speaking engagement, Abe faces a delima when he finds a pig in a mud hole. Does he rescue the pig getting the suit muddy or does he keep the suit clean by ignoring the pig.

Supposedly based on a true story, this fictionalized version shows kind-hearted Abe, on his way to give a speech, stopping in his good clothes to rescue a pig which was struggling to escape a deep mud hole.
